On the afternoon of October 11, 2000, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region) government, Tung Chee Hwa, delivered a policy address for the coming year in the Legislative Council. Almost all the legislators attended his speech. This was a significant occasion for Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Falun Dafa practitioners gathered in Zheda park outside the Legislative Council to practice the exercises and promote Falun Dafa to the legislators and government officials. The practitioners also delivered a petition letter to the Chief Executive and appealed to him and the legislators to show their concern about the vicious crackdown on Falun Gong in Mainland China.

About 150 practitioners participated in this event. They were the largest group of all the groups that were there to appeal. They were also the most peaceful and rational group. They were in good order, practicing Falun Gong exercises silently to the melodious music. The atmosphere was peaceful and harmonious with no shouting or agitation. Several large banners were very conspicuous. Many pictures that displayed the brutal persecution against Falun Gong were hanging on the surrounding iron railings. Many passers-by were attracted to this scene. Some people seated on the stone stools behind us watched us practicing the exercises. Also, there were people coming up to ask for Dafa materials.

The representatives of Falun Dafa practitioners delivered a petition letter and related Falun Dafa materials for clarifying the truth to the Chief Executive, Mr. Tung, and the Chief Secretary of Administration, Ms. Anson Chan. It was hoped that they would pay attention to the case of two Falun Gong practitioners who were illegally arrested by China's police early this month for filing a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin. It is hoped that the local government will be able offer its support to secure the release of one of the two arrested practitioners, Zhu Keming, who is a permanent resident of Hong Kong.

The practitioners also hoped that the local government could help tell the truth about the Falun Gong situation to those leaders in the Central government who remain goodhearted and urge them to stop Jiang Zemin and his accomplices' illegal crackdown on Falun Gong, immediately release all the detained Falun Gong practitioners, and reclaim the innocence of Falun Dafa and its founder Mr. Li Hongzhi. The petition letter, the indictment of the two practitioners towards Jiang Zemin, and the brochures clarifying the truth about Falun Gong were all sent to the Secretariat of the Legislative Council and passed on to all legislators.
