Jian Ping is a 30-year-old woman from Bishan County in Chongqing City.
It was around 7:00 PM of September 1st of 1999. Jian Ping was incarcerated in a detention center for 15 days because one Falun Gong practitioner who went to Beijing to appeal stayed in Jian Ping's home for one night. After 8:00 PM that day, Jian Ping began her tribulation and she was beaten for five hours until she vomited blood. After the prisoners finished beating her, the guards came out and said: "Jian Ping is the daughter of a policeman, you can't beat her." The prisoners lied: "We didn't beat her."
On October 31st, 1999, Jian Ping was sent to the detention center again because she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. Between October 31st to November 15th, Jian Ping was tortured twice for practicing Falun Gong. The first time her hands were pulled behind her back and cuffed together. Then her hands were hung above her head from behind and her feet couldn't touch the ground for over 20 minutes.
The second time, she subjected to a form of torture that is normally used on death row prisoners. Her hands were cuffed to feet shackles and so was her neck. Her hands, feet and head were harnessed together so that she could neither squat down nor stand up. She also had to bear chains that weighed dozens of kilograms as well as a big iron lock and an iron bar. She was tortured like that for three days and nights. Jian Ping would have been chained for 7 days. But she was freed from that torture three days later because she refused to take food under such torment. On November 16th, 1999, Jian Ping was sent by the detention center to the Third Team of Maojiaoshan Women's Labor Camp of Chongqing City.
In October of 2000, Jian Ping was handcuffed for 9 days and nights because the team supervisor found a Falun Dafa book hidden in her bed. Her hands were cuffed to an iron window in the daytime and in a hallway at night. On October 27th, 2000, Jian Ping was beaten again for practicing Falun Gong and was handcuffed for over 20 days. At first, her wrists were forcibly stuck into the iron grids on the window. Then her hands were cuffed after the iron has gotten into her flesh. The unbearable pain soon spread to her whole body. She lost consciousness about an hour later. Her face was very pale, her lips became blue, her eyes were tightly closed and her head was all wet with sweat but her hands were still firmly cuffed to the iron window (another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Yu Qunfang was handcuffed together with her). After the team supervisor came, he didn't remove her handcuffs but only loosened it a little bit. Jian Ping was still handcuffed to the iron bar on her bed even during sleep.
The second day, Jian Ping told Yu Qunfang that it was difficult for her to see things clearly. On the third day, her feet and legs began to feel painful and they later became numb. Her situation became more and more severe. When her handcuffs were removed more than 20 days later, Jian Ping had difficulty walking and seeing clearly. Her eyesight dropped from 1.5 to 0.1 and that of her right eye was even below 0.1. People felt so sorry to see Jian Ping had to do the forced labor when she was in such great pain and discomfort: a previously healthy person had been tortured to such an extent.
At around noon on October 25th, one prisoner couldn't help bursting into tears after seeing how Jian Ping had been beaten. However, the ruthless supervisor yelled at her: "What are you crying for? For your mother or father's death?" That prisoner was also made to stand for half a day and write a self-criticism to admit her mistake. But, what mistake is this?
