Prisoners Learned Falun Dafa and Changed Their Life in Jail

At midnight on February 18, 2000, the police ransacked the homes of many Falun Dafa practitioners including mine, and we were all arrested and taken to jail. Upon entering the jail, we were all stripped and given a body search. We were also ordered to jump several times while in the squatting position, and then we were, one by one, thrown into separate cells where prisoners were held (Afraid that Falun Gong practitioners may communicate and exchange experiences, each cell had only one practitioner. Later, as more practitioners were sent to jail, each cell had two or three practitioners.). Thus, I was sent to a City's female jail.

I am over 50 years old. Recalling my past, I loved my country and the people, and worked diligently. Later, I suffered from various diseases. In order to keep fit and strengthen my body, I practiced Falun Gong. Through practicing cultivation, I understood the vital essence of life, and genuinely cultivated my xinxing (the nature of the heart or the mind, moral character) according to the standard of a cultivator and became a good person with a high realm of mind. However, I was put in jail. What a pity it is for today's mankind who reverses right and wrong, good and evil.

How lucky I am, in my present lifetime, to be able to attain Falun Dafa. I learned the Dafa (the Great Law) of the universe while indulging in my everyday person's life. During the course of my cultivation practice, my life has been complete and peaceful, which is beyond the description of words. Who can prevent Falun Dafa practitioners from persisting in their cultivation by using the prisons of the human world?

Upon entering the jail, two steel gates were closed heavily behind me. Looking at the strange faces of these prisoners, I could tell they did not have any ill intentions toward me, another "Falun Gong". I felt the mighty power of Falun Dafa had manifested itself here. The practitioners coming here before me had made these prisoners know that people that practice Falun Dafa are good people. But they still had many doubts and questions about us. I thereby started telling them cultivation stories of Sakyamuni and Jesus and the content of the book Zhuan Falun from Lecture One to Lecture Nine, according to my own understanding and what I could remember. I also told them the true and touching stories of many practitioners who have achieved tremendous changes both physically and mentally through cultivation. I further told them why I could, from a person who knew only to grab everything for myself, become a person who can give up everything that I have, even my life for the sake of Falun Dafa. And I also told them why so many experts, scholars, workers, farmers, students and military soldiers constantly went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong

In this small cell of less than seven square meters [about 70 sq. ft], there were thieves, drug addicts, and prisoners who sold fake cigarettes and harmed others. During the thirty-one days we were detained together, they felt that they were fortunate to know that there is such a great Dafa of the universe spreading in our human world. Before they entered jail, they were only concerned about themselves and making money. Although they occasionally heard others talking about Falun Gong, they did not have time to ask for the details. Now they knew Falun Dafa, so they deeply regretted not having known it before. They wondered when they could be released so that they could have a good look at Zhuan Falun. They also said that if they had learned Falun Dafa earlier, they would not have been in jail.

From then on, they were eager to learn and practice Falun Gong. I asked them to recite "Lun Yu"[On Buddha Fa], and " Hong Yin"[the collection of Teacher's poems] to begin with. As known, a prison is an extremely harsh place, torture instruments, such as handcuffs, shackles, and wooden beds, have all been used on determined Falun Gong practitioners. However, these revived persons no longer fear any of those things. Within thirty-one days, they learned all five sets of exercises and remembered all the pithy formulas of them as well. They also learned "Lun Yu" by heart, and remembered most of seventy-two poems in "Hong Yin". For several poems that they could not remember, they used toothpaste as a pen and wrote them on the back of the verdict documents so as to memorize them intensively. From then on, they no longer played cards to pass the time but recited Jingwens (articles written by our Teacher). They said with a smile that they felt they were living an enriching life and became decent and noble while being with Falun Gong practitioners. Unlike when they sold fake cigarettes, they kept on alert and worried all the time. They also said that when they were released in the future, they would definitely behave according to Zhen-Shan-Ren (Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance). It was amazing that they all had a dramatic change after practicing Falun Dafa. One of them said, "Not until now did I know that Falun Gong is really good. Not only you, but even I will go to Beijing to tell the government that Falun Gong is not at all as what was reported on TV, and Falun Gong practitioners are truly good people."
