[Beijing] Police in Tiananmen Square Hire Thugs and Spies to Persecute Dafa Practitioners.
Around New Year's Day, numerous Dafa practitioners from different parts of China went to Tiananmen Square to appeal and were brutally persecuted by police. In the past, the police would beat Dafa practitioners themselves, but now they hire thugs to do their dirty work. These people generally bargain with the police over their payment. The more brutal they are, and the more practitioners they beat, the higher they will be paid. Those who do extremely well beating Dafa practitioners might qualify for regular employment with the Public Security Bureau.
At present, lots of "professionally trained" spies are dispatched to arrest Dafa practitioners in Beijing. They question every person at Tiananmen Square and slander Dafa. Whoever disobeys them will be arrested as a Dafa practitioner. So many practitioners were arrested for appealing recently that the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau had to send them to the branch bureaus and police substations.
[Beijing] What Happened at Tiananmen Square on New Year's Day
On January 1, 2001, there were a sea of people at Tiananmen Square. A large number of police vehicles and buses for public transportation were parked there. Dafa practitioners from all over the country gathered at the Square, risking their lives safeguarding the Great Law.
A bus fully loaded with Dafa practitioners passed by the Great Hall of the People with a small police car leading the way. Practitioners inside the bus shouted loudly all the way, "Falun Dafa is good!" "Falun Dafa is an orthodox Fa!" In the bus window, they also hung a banner which said "Truth-Compassion-Forbearance."
Police on the Square brutally beat Dafa practitioners in public. As soon as a practitioner stepped forward and shouted loudly, "Falun Dafa is good!" four to five police or plainclothes detectives would rush towards him and knock him down. After the practitioners were pushed into the police van, some street cleaners would scrub away the blood in order to eliminate the evidence of their crime.
Arrests occurred every minute or half minute, and sometimes several arrests would occur simultaneously. Once, after four practitioners were arrested and pushed into a van, they managed to open a window, throw a banner out, and shout loudly, "Falun Dafa is good!" A young practitioner picked up the banner and displayed it, shouting loudly as well, "Falun Dafa is good!" Police rushed forward and knocked her down to the ground.
A female practitioner was knocked down and then escorted to a police van. She began to cry while she was saying, "Falun Dafa is good. Restore my Master's good name!" Bystanders were deeply moved, and the police hurriedly gagged her.
At 11 am, a strong wind began to kick up yellow sand. A practitioner unfolded a banner reading "Truth-Compassion-Forbearance" and shouted loudly, "Falun Dafa is righteous!" while running. Police rushed from four directions and knocked him to the ground. Whenever flyers blew on the ground, the police would frantically pick them up and drive people away, fearing they would hear the truth.
Police also pinned some smaller practitioners to the ground so hard that they couldn't make a sound. Most practitioners arrested were kicked into the police vans. Some people in the crowd were angry at this, some didn't understand it, and some laughed for no reason.
[Beijing] About 200 Dafa Practitioners Arrested at Tiananmen Square on December 29, 2000
On December 29, 2000, By chance, I met an old lady and her daughter who had just been to Tiananmen Square. They told me about what they'd seen there. A multitude of Dafa practitioners were displaying banners and shouting loudly, "Falun Dafa is good!" "Falun Dafa is orthodox Fa!" etc. They also distributed literature exposing the truth of Dafa to the public. Police and plainclothes officers frantically chased and beat the practitioners, tripped them, and even kicked gray-haired old ladies. A young man was beaten so badly he began to bleed from the mouth. A young mother with a little baby in her arms was also beaten. Dafa practitioners were brutally shoved into 5 police vans and taken away. The police even excoriated the onlookers: "Get away!," they yelled. "It's none of your businesses!" This experience left the woman and her daughter feeling that the world is a horrible place.
[Beijing] Eyewitness Account: Police Detain Dafa Practitioners in Cages
On December 18, 2000, my fellow countrymen and I arrived in Beijing. Due to our appearance and accent, it was pretty easy for the police to tell that we were not from Beijing. Before we reached Tiananmen Square, we were detained and kept in an iron cage in the basement of the Qianmen Public Security Sub-bureau. There were already more than 100 practitioners detained here before us. Later, over a dozen more male practitioners were deposited here as well. Then a policeman put a man who looked like a mental patient into the cage. He screamed and yelled and began taking off all his clothes and throwing them at the female practitioners. The female practitioners had to turn their heads away, and the male practitioners tried to stand in between them. We all shouted, "Suffocate the evil! Suffocate the evil!" Eventually, the mental patient crawled on the ground and began to cry. Then a policeman entered, covered the man with his own coat, and took him away.

[Beijing] Qinghua University Lecturer in Critical Condition, But Police Continue their Persecution
Thirty four year old Yujia is a lecturer at the Economic Management Institute, Qinghua University. Eight policemen from Haidian Public Security Sub-bureau arrested her on November 27, 2000, and fabricated charges that she was a suspect in an "big propaganda material case." It is known that Yujia is very firm in cultivation, and she risks her life safeguarding Dafa and never cooperates with the evil forces. From the first day she was jailed, she has been on a hunger strike, and no matter how the police interrogated her, she didn't say anything. At this time, she's been on a hunger strike for more than a month, and her life is in danger. Even so, the police are considering transferring her to the Seventh Division of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau so as to persecute her further.
Her husband has already lost his job, and her 3-year-old daughter still expects her mom back every day. She would rather stay in brightly lit department stores until late at night rather than return to a home without a mother. Her home looks so miserable that it makes a person tear up. We plead for the attention of kind-hearted people throughout the world to help prevent the occurrence of more tragedies like this one. Please try your best to help us!

At 7:30 pm on December 27, 2000, in the hometown of Master Li, loud broadcasts, booming like thunder in the Spring, could be heard exposing the evil forces above both the Fenjin and Heizuizi Labor Camps.
[Changchun City, Jilin Province] Dafa Practitioners in Fenjin Labor Camp Stop the Evil Forces
Nearly one hundred Dafa practitioners are detained in the Fenjin Labor Camp. In October 2000, Dafa practitioner Liu Chengjun was put in solitary confinement because he tried to stop police guards from beating and cursing other practitioners. In response, Dafa practitioners all stood up to request that authorities waive the punishment. On October 9, 2000, several practitioners started a hunger strike to validate Dafa with their lives. On October 10, 2000, over 70 practitioners (all but one) started a hunger strike which continued for eight to nine days. Some of them were force-fed. Practitioners Jiang Quande and Wei Xiushan tore the wicked slogans off the corridor walls. Shao Weixin tore up the document inciting practitioners to "pledge to break way from Dafa" that was posted on the public notice board. Some practitioners tore up the books slandering Dafa. When the authorities called for a meeting of all Falun Gong practitioners in the labor camp, practitioner Liu Chengjun, Shao Weixin, and Wang Hui etc. stood up first and shouted: "I will not attend." Near all the practitioners then stood up. Police grabbed the three practitioners out, beat them brutally with police batons, and then cuffed them to an iron door in order to shock them more intensely with stun batons. In November 2000, the Camp organized a few "Transformed" persons to attack Dafa, but the Dafa practitioners present resisted them. Police guards beat them brutally and carried lots of them away forcefully. Two days later, some high level authorities went to visit the camp. The guards hid more than 70 Dafa practitioners in a root cellar for four hours and did not let them out until the authorities left. Now some criminal offenders in the Camp have begun to learn Dafa. One prisoner, who had been sentenced to forced labor for stealing, quit smoking after learning Dafa. Everyone there could see he had become a good person. Currently, all the practitioners have enlightened to the necessity of actively resisting and eliminating those people with demon natures.
[South China] Dafa Practitioners Step Forward Collectively To "Suffocate Evil"
On the night of December 30, 2000, Dafa practitioners from a certain city in South China stepped forward collectively and hung banners reading "Falun Dafa Is Good!" and "Falun Dafa Is A Righteous Fa!" along all the city's main streets. Also, many high-powered loud speakers broadcasted righteous messages in densely populated areas. Police did not recognize the nature of the broadcast until two hours later. All practitioners participating in the action are safe at this time.
Later, some Departments overreacted and frantically searched Dafa practitioners' homes one by one. Finding nothing, they requested that important practitioners be photographed and fingerprinted.
[South China] Police Drive A Man to Suicide and Detain His Wife, Leaving Mentally Retarded Son Home Alone
A Dafa practitioner from South China was sentenced to a one-year term of forced labor. After being released, she returned home to find her husband was deceased and her 30 year old son, who had a mental disorder, was home alone.
This was a nice family before July 1999. Both husband and wife practiced Falun Dafa. After July 20, 1999, police interrogated the husband many times and forced him to read a prepared paper on TV and publish it in the newspaper. The husband could not resist the pressure and did as he was told against his own conscience. But police still did not let leave him alone, and asked him to persuade his wife not to practice Falun Gong. At last he fled, and unable to endure the pressure from the police on one hand and his conscience on the other, he committed suicide.
After her husband fled, his wife looked for him in many places and at the same time encouraged other practitioners to validate Dafa. Police detained her illegally again. On October 23, 1999, when she heard that her husband was found dead, she asked police to release her to manage various matters related to his death. However, police deceived her and instead sent her to a labor camp for one-year of forced labor. She was not even allowed to see her husband's remains. It is a basic human right for a wife to arrange her husband's funeral, but police deprived her of this right without just cause.
After she returned home a year later, police still did not leave her alone but kept watching her and restricting her freedom. She said: "I want to speak out. I want more people to know how Chinese police persecute kind people and secretly carry out such wicked actions."
[Beijing] The Working Commission of the Central Government Holds Transformation Class
The Working Commission of the Central Government held a meeting before New Year's Day and decided to hold a transformation class to "Transform" Dafa practitioners from 69 ministries and commissions. The practitioners are not transferred to police departments because they are known to be good people, according to the Commission. The class is going to start in the next few days, and is predicted to last for half a month. Some practitioners, recognizing the Commission's false kindness, refused to cooperate and walked out of their work units.
[North China] Dafa Promotion in A Village
During the holiday season on New Year's Day, I returned to my hometown, a village in North China. Dafa practitioners there had spray-painted the words "Falun Dafa Is Good" on utility poles. The messages, which will last a long time, were sprayed on the poles under the watchful eyes of many kind-hearted people. The practitioners also brought flyers telling the truth of Dafa to farmers' houses and hung banners above main roads.
After talking with relatives, I found that Jiang Zemin has already lost support from the people. They all think he is wicked. Some relatives have already learned the truth of Dafa. My father thinks that because Dafa practitioners are behaving very well, Jiang Zemin's wickedness has become more visible, and this is why he tries to suppress Dafa and Dafa practitioners. My cousin thinks that it will be impossible for Jiang Zemin to gain people's support again as there are lots of Falun Gong practitioners and many Dafa banners and flyers around the capital of the province.
However, some relatives still do not know the truth of Dafa because of the wicked propaganda coming from the Central TV station. We must continue to tell the truth about Dafa. In addition, behaving as a Dafa practitioner is also a way of validating Dafa. If a practitioner commits some wrongdoings, his deeds will be used to attack Dafa.
[Southwest China] Police Forcefully Search and Arrest People without Any Reason
In Southwest China, Dafa practitioners were persecuted on a large scale in July 2000. Since then, practitioners have become more rational and wise in telling the truth about Dafa. Recently, without any evidence, police forcefully searched and arrested four practitioners. They are Yan Hui, Gou Jufang, Zhou, and Zhang Minglang.

Recently the government of Yangguanling Township, Fengrun County, Hebei Province arrested Dafa practitioners again and detained them in the government office in order to prevent them from going to Beijing to appeal during the New Year holiday.

Liang Hong, male, 37, an employee of Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, is a volunteer at the Dafa Taiyuan Assistance Center. He was arrested on July 20, 1999 and detained for 2 months. He was arrested again two months after being released and has been detained since December 1999.
Twenty five year old Yang Wenyu, is a volunteer at the Dafa Taiyuna Assistance Center. Arrested and detained on July 20, 1999, he was arrested again two months after being released and has now been detained since December, 1999. His wife, an employee of the Financial Department of Shanxi Province, went to appeal over the mistreatment of Yang. As a result she was expelled her house was confiscated and she was suspended from her job.
Forty year old Xia Yilin, who had spent 15,000 yuan (about $2000) printing Dafa flyers, was arrested as she distributed them.
Song Xinai, an employee of the Taiyuan Education Institute, was detained for 15 days for appealing on October 26, 2000. She continued to assist Teacher to validate the Fa after being released. She was arrested again in November, 2000, for telling the truth about Dafa to the people. Right now there is no information about her current situation.
Zhang Suyao, 43, had been to Beijing to appeal with her 75-year-old mother twice since July 20, 1999. They were both detained and fined. She went to Tiananmen Square to appeal again at the end of September 2000. Now she has been sent to a labor camp for one year of forced labor.
The six Dafa practitioners below were recognized, arrested, and detained by police on their way to Tiananmen Square to appeal at the end of October 2000.

[Nin'an City, Helongjiang Province] Persecution of Falun Dafa Practitioners in Nin'an City, Helongjiang Province
Dafa practitioners Zuo Guihua, Zhang Shuqing, Shan Xiufang, Li Fengyu and Liu Yan from Nin'an City, Helongjiang Province were pursued and captured by police from the Nin'an Public Security Bureau as they were going to Beijing to appeal. They were escorted back to Nin'an City and sent to labor camps for one to two years of forced labor.
These practitioners are enduring inhuman torture in the labor camps. Police put one heavy shackle on two practitioners and forced them to keep walking in the corridor. The heavy shackles wore the skin off their feet and made them bleed. In addition to physical abuse, the police also tortured them mentally. They tried to force practitioners to curse Falun Dafa and its founder, claiming that whoever did so would be released. But these practitioners stood up for their beliefs despite the police threats. Refusing to give in during interrogation, they told the police about the greatness of Falun Dafa and why they appealed.
Currently, police have intensified their persecution by trying to coerce practitioners into writing "Guarantee Statements." They promise to release whoever writes one, but not one practitioner has done so. Instead, they replied that they were innocent, that they were not criminals, and that they did not break any laws--so why should they write so-called "Guarantee Statements?" They refused firmly. Frustrated, the police intensified their persecution. Although the practitioners were detained in a perilous environment, they were still very strict with themselves. They got up very early and cleaned the cells and restrooms every day. They even cleaned windows that had not been cleaned for many years, which impressed upon the police that Falun Gong is truly good.
Dafa practitioner Wang Zhibin was arrested while on a business trip to Mudanjiang City, Helongjiang province last winter. He has been detained until now. Another practitioner He Zhengqiang was also arrested during his business trip to Mudanjiang City on August 2000. He is still detained at present. No further information is available.
On Christmas Eve, over ten practitioners were arrested and were not released until they paid 5,000 yuan. Over twenty Dafa practitioners are still detained in prisons in Ni'nan City, where the government is intensifying its persecution against them. Their situations are very dangerous.
