Northern California Mayor and Council Members Welcome Practitioners Participating in SOS! Global RescueWalk

On the morning of October 15, a press conference was held in front of the San Jose City Hall to welcome seven practitioners who walked 570 miles from Los Angeles since September 20 to call for the release of Teng Chunyan and for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Many officials from the San Francisco Bay area attended the press conference to welcome practitioners, including San Jose council members Mr. Chuck Reed and Mr. David Curtis, Mayor of Monte Sereno Ms. Barbara Nasbet, Saratoga city council member Mr. Stan Bogosian, and State Representative Mr. John Vasconcellos.

Several officials delivered speeches at the press conference. Monte Sereno Mayor Barbara Nesbet pointed out that truthfulness and benevolence are very important to all lives and the people practicing their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance should not be subjected to any form of physical and mental persecution. Saratoga city council member Mr. Stan Bogosian has been very supportive to the efforts of practitioners to appeal for justice. He said, "I call on all my colleagues to step forth to support Falun Gong. Only by doing so, in 15 or 20 years you will not regret not having made the effort to stop the persecution of Falun Gong by Chinese government."

San Jose council member Mr. Chuck Reed initiated the resolution that supports and protects the lawful beliefs, exercises and other related activities of Falun Gong practitioners in San Jose. He said he had walked for one month for his election and he knew how hard it could be to walk from LA to SF so he sincerely thanked the effort that the practitioners had made to let Americans know about the persecution in China.

Another San Jose council member Mr. David Curtis said, "Today I want to tell you, in the South bay area there is a government official resolutely supporting you. Thank you for your sacrifice."

Before the press conference concluded, a practitioner participating in the Walk talked about the ordeal she suffered during her 104-day long detention in China.
