Tonghua Labor Camp in Jilin Province has illegally imprisoned a large number of Falun Dafa practitioners. I have documented some of the crimes committed by this labor camp as follows. Through the exposure of these crimes, we sincerely hope that people around the world, who share a strong sense of justice and respect for human rights, will help practitioners get back their basic human rights.

On July 23, 2001, practitioners Dong Chao and Dong Guangwen, who had been illegally detained in Tonghua Labor Camp, were sentenced to an additional six-months and secretly transferred to Jilin City Labor Camp. Their sentences were extended because of their co-writing and co-signing a letter of appeal to relevant government departments. In the letter, they exposed the truth of the brutal persecution of practitioners, by despicable means, by the labor camp guard Sun Jianfu and political instructor Hu Zhongshi. They also stated a few questions and concerns to the local "610 Office."

Practitioner Xu Hongjun (male) is a physics teacher working in a middle school. One day when he heard one of his student cursing people in his class, he tried to persuade the student to stop by explaining to him the importance of acting civilized and by sharing the Falun Dafa principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." He also loaned the student a copy of Zhuan Falun.

This event was then reported to the local public security bureau. On September 28, 2001, local police officers came to arrest Xu. They chased after him in two police cars. When they drove close to a market, the drivers headed the cars towards Xu and hit him in front of many onlookers. After being hit Xu looked deathly pale. Lying on the ground and in severe pain, Xu continued clarifying the truth about Dafa to the onlookers. The police got out of their cars and threw Xu into one of the cars. The police then drove him directly to the labor camp. Xu was recently allowed to leave the labor camp, under surveillance, to seek medical treatment for his injured legs.

Fearing that practitioner Yang Mingjun would go to Beijing to appeal for Dafa around October 1, 2001, the National Day of China, the police used a false excuse to take him away from his work place and then sent him directly to the labor camp on September 26, 2001.

Some of the guards in this labor camp either explicitly encourage or implicitly instigate inmates into deliberately beating or verbally abusing and threatening practitioners. When the practitioners calmly reason with them, the guards were unable to find any arguments to defend themselves. They told the practitioners that actually they are not interested in things related to Falun Gong. They only do these things under orders from their superiors and because they felt that they had no choice but to follow orders under such pressure.

Currently, all imprisoned practitioners in the labor camp are on a labor strike and have been for almost a month. They have written petitions and appeal letters to relevant government departments. Some of practitioners have even begun hunger strikes. Through these actions, the practitioners are strongly requesting that the government reverse its verdict against Falun Gong, immediately and unconditionally release all Falun Gong practitioners, take actions to eliminate the negative impact that has been created on the public, and allow practitioners to practice Falun Gong exercises in public.

Currently, facing the truth about Dafa as it has been clarified to the public, more and more people, including many governmental officers, have realized the huge mistake made by the Chinese authorities in persecuting Falun Gong. Hundreds of thousands of family members and friends of practitioners who have been imprisoned and forced to leave their homes have waken up. The government's atrocities have trigged the people's strong indignation toward the cruel persecution of innocent people. We hereby appeal to Chinese authorities and ask them to listen to the voice of the people and immediately stop making more of these mistakes which make them the enemy of the people.
