With Righteous Thoughts, Dong Yuhua, a Practitioner from Guangzhou Walks out of a Detention Center

Dong Yuhua, a female practitioner from Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, was arrested by the police of Guangdong Province on May 18, apparently because her cellular phone had been monitored. Two other practitioners were arrested at the same time. They were Wu Xiaoyan, female, also from Guangzhou City and a male practitioner from Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. Their names were discovered by the police.

Witnesses said that the three practitioners continued to promote Falun Dafa and shouted out "Falun Dafa is the Righteous Way" even while being arrested. After they were interrogated at the Jingtai Police Substation on the day they were arrested, they were transferred to the Baiyun District Detention Center at night. At the detention center, Wu Xiaoyan was frequently beaten up for reciting Zhuan Falun and other of Teacher Li's articles and for doing the exercises. Since the so-called self-immolation incident occurred, none of the detained Falun Dafa practitioners in Guangzhou (currently we only know the situation in Guangzhou) were allowed to study Zhuan Falun and Teacher Li's articles or do any of the exercises. Otherwise, as announced by the guards, if they did so, it was totally acceptable for any inmates to beat them. For the past five months, numerous detained practitioners were beaten into comas for insisting on their right to practice. They were also made to wear very heavy shackles (over 15 kilograms). The two rings of these shackles were interlocked together and fixed in a particular location (usually installed near the toilets). The manner in which these shackles were used caused even more pain. There were more horrifying stories about the suffering of a particular male practitioner from Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. We hope that kind-hearted people will keep their eyes on this and offer their assistance.

Witnesses also said, Dong Yuhua, female, 30 years old, refused to renounce her faith. Since she was arrested, she was on a hunger strike until she was released, for a total of thirty-three days from May 18 to June 19. The director of Baiyun Detention Centre headed a team to force feed her through her nose, on five occasions. Four out of the five times, he did it by himself, stepping on Dong's face with his leather boots. Once he ordered two male inmates to force feed Dong, regardless of the immense pain that Dong suffered when her stomach acid was vomited every time she was forced fed.

On numerous occasions, for continuing to study Zhuan Falun and other of Teacher Li's articles and for doing the exercises, Dong has endured prolonged beatings to all parts of her body including her breasts. These beatings were carried out by inmates who were given the order by the prison authorities. According to insiders, not only was she beaten by the guards many times, the 610 Office in Guangzhou (Note: a special unit created by the government to deal with issues related to Falun Gong) had ordered that certain drugs be used on her to make her confess. They gave up in the end because Dong refused to cooperate with them, and they did not get any of the information they were looking for. In the thirty days she was detained, she was in the above-mentioned shackles for over twenty-days, which caused the muscles in her legs to atrophe (shrink from lack of movement) severely. Baiyun Detention Center was afraid that she might die while there, so they therefore sent her against her will to the hospital where she was given injections of strong doses of tranquilizers and other drugs. As a result of the beatings and the use of drugs, she slipped into a coma twice, but no one seemed to care. When Dong remained unconscious for long periods of time and was not able to walk, her family was notified on June 9 to pick her up.

Note: After Dong got home, her family took her to a hospital with state-of-the-art equipment for a physical examination to see how badly she was injured. They were surprised to find that her internal organs were not damaged as a result of her prolonged hunger strike nor from the torture she had suffered. Her family was, therefore, impressed by how extraordinary Falun Dafa was.
