Falun Dafa Reaches the Arctic Circle (Part III)

5. Welcomed as guests in the home of the Chairman of Amnesty International

The Danish practitioners heard of Mr. Thomas, the Chairman of Amnesty International, for the first time when inquiring about information about Greenland. We thought of visiting him after we arrived in Greenland; however, he came to see us on the second day of our exhibition in the Culture Palace.

Mr. Thomas said that he wrote to the Chinese Government last year to demand it to stop the persecution against Falun Gong. He is actively calling on attention to the child abuse in China and human rights issues in other third world countries.

Not long after we started talking, he discussed with his wife and invited us to be their guest on the only evening there were no other scheduled activities.

We visited him and brought the book Falun Gong and exercise music, our most precious gifts. They were very pleased to see the book and asked many questions on how to obtain more information on Falun Dafa. We introduced Falun Dafa and our cultivation experience. They promised they would come to learn Falun Gong the next time they visit Copenhagen.

Mr. Thomas told us that he had already photocopied the signature form we gave to him and would distribute it to other places. Besides the media reports, he was going to write an article on Falun Gong. In the later days he indeed came to the Culture Palace and our outdoor location many times. He shot many photos for his article.

We also discussed cooperation on clarifying the truth of Falun Gong and appealing to people to pay attention to it.

One of our practitioners arrived in Greenland two days later than others. On the plane, he met a somewhat famous reporter from a Netherlands TV station who interviewed us many times. The reporter went to Greenland to give lectures at the Reporter School. The practitioner understood the meeting with her was not a coincidence.

After we talked for a few times over the phone, the reporter finally agreed to invite us to introduce Dafa to her students. In the last day in Greenland, October 25, 2001, we went to Greenland University to introduce Dafa to the students there at noon, gather signatures, and demonstrate the Falun Dafa exercises. Then we went to the Reporter School.

We introduced the universal principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," and demonstrated the exercises. Some students asked about "self-immolation" during the question session. We played the video immediately to clarify the truth and left videotapes of The True Stories on Falun Gong with them. Then the students interviewed us one to one. Our activity was not finished until the school was going to close.

The first 10-day activity of spreading Falun Dafa in Greenland ended. The time was not long but scheduled tightly.

The Teacher said in Lecture on the Fa at the Washington, D.C. International Conference "You can't do Dafa work without studying the Fa, or it would be an everyday person doing Dafa work. It has to be Dafa disciples who do Dafa work--this is something required of all of you." During the last several months, handling the preparation for spreading Dafa in Greenland and related issues were really a test for me in my cultivation. Our cultivation and improvement is incorporated and demonstrated in our work in spreading Dafa, which I have deeply experienced.

After deciding to go to Greenland to spread Dafa, we faced lots of difficulties. First, we did not know anything about the area. Second, there were not enough practitioners to go due to the limited number of Danish practitioners and economic reasons. The summer is over, the autumn has begun and the winter will come soon in Greenland. It would be more difficult to undertake any outdoor activities in the cold winter there. Facing these difficulties, I decided that this was the best time to go.

There are no coincidences in our cultivation. I must calm down to study the Fa and find out the problems in myself. The Teacher said in the article of Also in a Few Words that "Indestructible righteous thoughts toward the cosmos' Truth form benevolent Dafa disciples' rock-solid, Vajra Bodies; they frighten all evil, and the light of Truth they emanate makes the unrighteous elements in all beings' thoughts disintegrate. However strong the righteous thoughts are, that's how great the power is."

However, during the last few months, I was afraid of difficulties, full of anxiety, and even had complaints and considered withdrawing. I was in a state of doing Dafa work as an everyday person and did not realize the mighty power from our cultivated sides.

Recently, what practitioners talked about most were righteous belief, righteous thoughts, and stepping out of everyday people's notions. I thought that during current cultivation, we must have righteous belief and righteous thoughts, and do righteous things with a clear mind. Otherwise it would be hard to make a fundamental change from a human to an enlightened being.

After I understood the Fa, the pressure in my heart was gone completely and I felt calm and delighted. "So in clarifying the truth, don't wait, don't rely on others, and don't just hope for changes in external factors." (from the Teacher's article of To All Students at the Nordic Fa Conference). With this righteous thought, we finished the preparation within a short time and the whole activity in Greenland was quite successful.
