New South Wales Democratic candidate for the Greenway District, Joseph Francis, and the candidate for the Prospect District, Tom Peacock, have been aware for some time about the persecution of Falun Gong by Jiang Zemin's regime. Just before this federal election, after practitioners told him about the situation of Falun Gong in China, candidate Francis said, "It's beyond my comprehension how the Chinese (Jiang Zemin's) regime can persecute a group of such kind people. Candidate Peacock expressed that it's really hard to believe that such things can happen today in the 21st century. He said, "I wonder if you still remember what pastor Morrah [A survivor of the Nazi regime] said, 'When they [the Nazi's] came to get the Jews, I remained silent, because I was not a Jew. When they came to get the Communists, I remained silent, because I was not a Communist. When they came to get the trade union members, I remained silent, because I was not a trade union member. Then when they came to get me, there was no one left to speak out for me.' At present, Falun Gong practitioners are suffering severe torture in China. I will, together with Joseph, try my best to help you. Let's stand together to end this inhumane behavior!"
