ABC (Austrlian Broadcasting Corporation): Australians among Falun Gong protesters arrested in China November 21, 2001 Australians among Falun Gong protesters arrested in China
It is believed four Australians are among a group of 35 western followers of
the Falun Gong movement who have been arrested in China after a
demonstration in Beijing's Tiananmen Square. The group's Australian spokesman Tony Dai says two are from Sydney and two
from Melbourne. [...] Mr Dai says he is not confident Chinese authorities will expel the
foreigners because two Australians who were arrested in China last year
spent time in jail. "They were in the same situation but they were detained for eight months and
also my mother, she was an Australian citizen when she went back to China to
appeal to the Government and she was jailed for 45 days, so I'm still
worried about if the Chinese Government will release them or not," he said.
