Member of European Parliament says, "The spirit of Falun Gong...will not be defeated by suppression and abuse"

Thank you very much for your letter of 5th October inviting me to speak at your rally in Trafalgar Square next Sunday.

Unfortunately I cannot be with you in person because of other commitments. I shall however, be with you in spirit and it is the spirit of Falun Gong members, which will not be defeated by suppression and abuse.

Today we think of those who have died, those who have suffered, those whose bodies and minds bear the scars of cruel mistreatment. It makes no sense; Falun Gong is not a threat to the Chinese state. The real threat to the Chinese Authorities is the pain within - the desire to be free to express ones personality and ones beliefs; and to share them with ones friends and comrades.

China is a great Nation; it has contributed so much that is good to our world. We respect its peoples and its history and its culture. Surely we can ask its leaders of today to remember the greatness of its past centuries, to think of tomorrow and to show compassion to its people today.

My sincere good wishes to all the members of Falun Gong in China and in Britain and throughout the world.
