When the number of Falun Gong followers exceeded the number of Chinese Communist Party members the regime felt threatened. Since July 1999 Falun Gong has been prohibited in China.

Chinese practitioners risk their lives when they, in a peaceful manner, appeal to the regime to stop the persecution and find a peaceful solution.

"The movement has no political ambitions, yet it's seen as a threat", says Marja-Leena Koivuluoto from Finsp ng.

This Saturday was the opening day of the exhibition 'Falun Gong -- In Illustration and Text' at the Finsp ng library.

The method is based on truthfulness, compassion and forbearance.

Falun Gong is an ancient spiritual method. Its popularity is said to be due to the fact that the method is really effective when it comes to restoring health and harmonizing mind, body, and soul.

"Falun Gong gives a you a higher quality, healthier life," says Sandra Forsstr m, a cultivator from Norrk ping.

Master Li Hongzhi

Falun Gong -- a form of qigong -- was introduced to the public by Master Li Hongzhi in 1992. Today it is practised by some 100 million people in some 40 countries around the world.

"I feel better and find it easier to concentrate. Previously I had problems with my back, but my back feels so much better now," she says.

False propaganda is being spread

"Many people are uncertain about what Falun Gong really is. They often get false propaganda via TV from the Chinese regime whose president wants to stop the Falun Gong movement.

Falun Gong reports that people are arrested, tortured and killed. Thousands of followers have been put into labour camps, mental hospitals and prisons.

Today more than 300 people have been killed in China because they practise Falun Gong. These death cases are usually classified as suicide.
