The Thirty Six Western Falun Gong Practitioners from Twelve Countries Were Alleged to Have Violated the Jiang Zemin Regime's "No-Protest Law"
Written by Fei Ming
(Clearwisdom.net) Recently, the heroic appeal of thirty-six Western Falun
Gong practitioners at Tiananmen Square in Beijing became the focus of worldwide
attention. Since the Jiang Zemin regime could not block people in Mainland China
from learning about the appeal on the internet, they had to report the news. But
because the Western practitioners were not affiliated with any governments, did
not have any political background, and came from many different countries, Jiang
Zemin could not frame them as "anti-China forces" "who caused
emotional harm to the Chinese people." These descriptions, which are often
used to criticize Western governments, would have sounded totally inappropriate.
Therefore, the state-run media created something new and alleged that the
Western practitioners "violated the protest regulations."
Indeed, any country will have its own regulations for protests and
demonstrations; nevertheless, in civilized countries, people's freedom of speech
is well protected. Anyone can express his or her viewpoints on the streets, so
long as their presence does not hinder traffic or other people. An official
permit will usually not be refused, and the police are present only to insure
that the protest goes smoothly. Numerous appeals and protest activities by Falun
Gong practitioners in front of Chinese Embassies in the United States have been
like this. Even on the day US President George Bush had his inaugural ceremony,
over ten thousand US citizens demonstrated and protested over the way the
ballots had been counted. (Of course, according to Jiang's logic, this would
have been considered "besieging the government.") It is very clear
that in the US the regulations governing protests are indeed regulations to
protect protests.
In China, under the dictatorship of Jiang Zemin, there is also a
"protest regulation/law," but it is really a
"no-protest-is-allowed law." With the exception of several
government-sponsored anti-American demonstrations that were designed to whip up
extreme nationalism, and parades inciting hatred toward Falun Gong in the
aftermath of the fabricated "Tiananmen Self-Immolation Incident,"
Chinese citizens do not have any right to voice their points of view through
demonstrations or parades. If a citizen applies for a permit to demonstrate or
have a parade, this is like applying for a ticket to go to jail. Therefore, what
the Western Falun Gong practitioners "violated" is not a "protest
law" but a "no-protest-is-allowed law" or a
"protest-is-prohibited law."
Jiang Zemin's regime consistently deceives the common people in China. For
example, the much touted "running the State according to law" is
really the turning their own will into law. The original meaning of
"running the State according to law" is supposed to be that while
executing the powers that are given to them by citizens, the government
officials should abide by the law and be constrained by the law. The ruling
party should be punished by the law if it breaks the law. The constitution in a
civilized country is used to impose restrictions on the government's power
instead of restricting the citizens' rights. The law in the hands of Jiang
Zemin's regime is a shackle around the neck of the populace--their laws are used
to rule over the people and declare the innocent guilty. If all regulations made
by governments are to be accepted as infallible laws, then should not the laws
Hitler and the Nazis used to persecute the Jews also have been followed?
The most evil demon is the demon that disguises itself as something good, but
when we rip off its mask, we will clearly see its ferociousness.
