NEW YORK, December 16, 2001 (Falun Dafa Information Center)--A reliable source inside China has revealed that Chinese officials will begin a propaganda initiative starting Monday, Dec. 17th, that frames up Falun Gong by way of a suicide case. This is believed to be the latest initiative in a long string of attempts to implement President Jiang's orders to "strengthen propaganda" against Falun Gong; the efforts intend to win support among the Chinese people and "counter international criticism."
"We received this information late last night," said Falun Dafa Information Center spokesperson Adam Montanaro. "Chinese officials have used this tactic many times before - they take cases of suicide, murder, and other horrible acts, and use the state-run media to pin them on practitioners of Falun Gong so as to incite hatred towards Falun Gong among the Chinese people." Montanaro added, "Of course, China's officials heavily guard any information about these cases. So it's both difficult and dangerous for us to get further details about this new initiative, but we can say this came from a reliable source and must be taken seriously. We need to follow this closely."
According to Dr. Shiyu Zhou, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania who has done extensive research on China's persecution of Falun Gong, the number of fabricated reports in China against Falun Gong has increased recently. He notes that the rise in such reports follows the peaceful demonstration in Tiananmen Square (11/20/01) by 36 Western Falun Gong practitioners. "Another key aspect of the propaganda war by China's state-run media is the idea that Falun Gong is suppressed all over the world, just as it is in China," Dr. Zhou told FDI. "This propaganda aims to convince the Chinese people that the persecution of Falun Gong is widely endorsed. For many Chinese, however, the appearance of the westerners in Tiananmen Square has led them to start questioning this propaganda, and so Chinese officials are desperately attempting to counter this trend with increased propaganda."
A SAMPLING OF CASES USED TO FRAME UP FALUN GONG
Last Tuesday, China's state-run media carried a story about a deranged man in Hainan Province who allegedly killed his uncle and then attempted to kill himself. The propaganda department labeled the man a Falun Gong practitioner, although no third-party investigation has been allowed. Similar cases have appeared in China's state-run media over the last year. All outside investigations have been blocked, with foreign journalists being threatened, detained, and interrogated.
In October during the height of the international Anthrax scare and just days before the APEC meetings in Shanghai, Chinese foreign ministry sources reported that a package containing Falun Gong materials with "a questionable substance" had been received by an unidentified American company in Beijing. A few weeks earlier, however, a Sept. 19th report in Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (see FDI 9/24 Release), citing sources in Beijing, stated that China's regime is trying to "exploit international outrage over the US [World Trade Center] attacks" to aid its own attacks on Falun Gong. AP, CNN, and other media organizations developed this story further, questioning both the legitimacy and timing of the Anthrax-hoax described by the Chinese foreign ministry. Only days later state-run media in China quickly dropped the story without follow-up.
In probably the most highly publicized case of this sort, at the beginning of this year the state-run Xinhua news agency in Beijing reported that five individuals, who were labeled Falun Gong practitioners, attempted suicide by self-immolation on Tiananmen Square. Conflicting eyewitness reports as well as discrepancies in the official coverage of the event, however, have cast doubt on the validity of Xinhua's account. CNN's videotapes of the scene were confiscated, reporters were told not to cover the story and threatened, and to this day not a single third-party interview has been allowed with the victims.
Detailed analysis of the Xinhua video coverage released one week later reveals Chinese police taking what appears to be an active role in the entire event. In a statement to the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights at the United Nations in August, 2001, International Education Development (IED) stated: "The [Chinese] regime points to a supposed self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square on January 23, 2001...we have obtained a video of that incident that in our view proves that this event was staged by the [Chinese] government." Philip Pan of the Washington Post reported that at least one of the victims in fact had no previous association with Falun Gong.
Not long ago, Falun Gong practitioner Chi Jian and his family, who live in Grenoble, France, wrote a letter to the French Prime Minister to express their appreciation for the friendly and efficient intervention of the French government while they were detained in China. As a result of this intervention, the family avoided being persecuted in the same way as Zhao Ming. Mr. Chi also stated that Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness--Compassion--Forbearance have benefited millions of practitioners, and he called on the French government to take all possible means to help Zhao Ming and other practitioners who are persecuted in mainland China.

The discussion at the practice site today on the issue of the role of the practice site impressed me very much. When I returned home, I set my mind to studying the Fa. I read Teacher's 1997 New York lecture and Teacher's lecture at the First Conference in North America in 1998.
In March 1997, Teacher said to us that practitioners in America have good inborn quality and can improve their levels quickly. However, Teacher also said, "These are advantages you have. But don't become complacent, as you also have attachments and obstacles in different forms that need to be overcome, and only then can you improve even faster." (Falun Buddha Fa - Lectures in the United States, "Teaching the Fa in New York City") I remembered that after I heard this, I kept asking myself, "What are our 'attachments and obstacles in different forms' that need to be overcome?" I realized that this must be a very important issue in our cultivation, since Teacher specifically talked about this to American practitioners. However, as one of the American practitioners mentioned, I was unable to find those "attachments and obstacles in different forms." Now, more than four years have passed since March of 1997. Like other practitioners, I have also made great breakthroughs in many aspects of my Fa-rectification cultivation. However, regarding the "attachments and obstacles" Teacher talked about during our practice in a busy life, have I truly realized those attachments and overcome those obstacles? In reviewing my cultivation over the past few years and some problems that I have encountered at the practice site, I would like to share my personal understanding of these issues.
There are a few basic questions about practice sites.
1. Why does Teacher ask us to go to a practice site?
2. What is the role of a practice site? What did Teacher say about this?
3. What are my own responsibilities at a practice site?
4. What is the role of a practice site during the Fa-rectification period?
Once I started cultivation practice, I immediately began going to a practice site, since Teacher asked each practitioner to do so. However, the purpose of my going there was to listen to other practitioners. I hoped that they would talk of things about which I had not enlightened. I thought this would benefit my own understanding of the Fa. However, after going to the practice site several times, I found that other practitioners didn't talk about very "high-level" things. Instead, I would see many of their attachments when they spoke. So, for the first time, I had the question, "Do I still need to go to the practice site?"
Through studying the Fa, I came to understand that the practice site is a cultivation environment appointed specifically for us by Teacher. There are deep underlying meanings and far-reaching implications manifested by this environment. If I felt that the practice site was of no use to me, I must be mistaken in my understanding of something. So, what was the matter? Again, through studying the Fa, I realized that the problem lay with my ordinary people's notions. Going to the practice site is different from attending an academic discussion of ordinary people. Cultivation is to fundamentally change our ordinary people's notions. Going to the practice site is to refine ourselves in an environment that provides opportunities for xinxing improvement. In such an environment, we are supposed to help each other, remind each other of any problems and learn from each other's mistakes instead of waiting for the assistants or the veteran practitioners to tell us something, or requiring others to follow our habits and satisfy our needs. More importantly, whenever we encounter any problems, we need to remember what is in the Dafa books so that we can be strict with ourselves.
The practice site is an environment for cultivation. Whenever our hearts are moved, we need to search internally to improve our xinxing. This is the most important function of the practice site. As cultivators, we all have the heart for making progress and becoming more compassionate. At our own levels, we search internally based on the Fa to improve our xinxing. The determination and purity manifested during this process are very touching. At the same time, the xinxing conflicts can be startling. So the practice site environment itself is good for one's refinement. None of the Dafa books tell us to go to the practice site in order to hear "high-level" talk or to speak to someone to find the answers to our questions that arise during our own Fa-study. If one follows human notions and has human expectations of the practice site, one will feel disappointed. This disappointment itself is an attachment. As practitioners, we need to dig out this attachment, and then we can improve ourselves in conflicts. If we respond to this disappointment with ordinary people's notions and stop going to the practice site or change to another practice site, we won't be able to remove the attachment. Sooner or later, karma will take advantage of this and separate us from the cultivation environment. We will then lose the important protection arranged by the Teacher for us to reach Consummation.
Besides, Teacher told us to go to the practice site so that more people would obtain the Fa. The responsibility of helping people to obtain the Fa belongs to us, not others. If we ask others to take care of it, aren't we shirking our historical responsibility?
We have become busier during the Fa-rectification and have higher standards to reach. Due to more time-conflicts, many practitioners have chosen not to go to the practice sites anymore. Among them are some relatively new practitioners who find excuses not to go to group practice whenever they are busy, because they didn't get the help they expected and they don't take the practice sites as their natural responsibility. They have separated themselves from the important environment arranged by the Teacher, and it is a huge loss.
Teacher said, "You are often unwilling to part with the various notions developed through living in human society for a long time. You think that you've made some achievements in various fields, and you're unwilling to let go of them. You also hold on to those "accurate" concepts learned among everyday people. It's usually these things that hold some people back. Moreover, impediments extend to include: the habitual forces of various kinds that many of you develop in the society of everyday people, a person's established way of life, and those things that everyday people are supposed to pursue. These things are the most sensitive and the most afraid of being changed." ( "Lecture at the First Conference in North America")
With regard to practicing outside and going to the practice site, a lot of practitioners have not thought about what Teacher has told us and why the Fa has such a requirement for us. Practicing outside and going to the practice site became a burden and many practitioners found it very difficult to achieve. Also, in order to avoid conflicts, some practitioners try very hard to create a comfortable atmosphere that is similar to a social environment in which the practitioners tend to say, "I'm OK, you're OK." The veteran practitioners from Mainland China generally have different opinions of this. They think that many overseas practitioners are not striving forward hard enough and are too comfortable and too undisciplined. However, the practitioners abroad think that they have a different environment, so they are not willing to "copy the way of doing things from Mainland China." Actually, there is only one Fa. The formality is not important, but the principles are.
Teacher said, "I've said time and again that our practice of cultivation in any part of the world should follow the way and form taken in China... during the course of teaching the Fa over the years, I've told persons in China how they should do things. I rectified problems when they arose to ensure a smooth and healthy development. All of you from other countries and regions should follow suit so that the Fa takes fewer detours and practitioners suffer less harm. This is the purpose." There is no "solitary cultivation" in Falun Dafa. The environment of the practice site is very good for breaking through our degenerate notions and helping us melt into the Fa. Now, practitioners abroad are working on many projects together. However, for various reasons, working together doesn't necessarily create a cultivation environment equivalent to a practice site. If practitioners give up the correct cultivation form such as the practice site because they are busy, they are actually depriving themselves of important protection on their path to reaching Consummation.
Teacher said, "For intellectuals, the obstacle is modern science. If something conforms to this science, they can accept it; if it doesn't, they cannot accept it. They are severely impeded. No one knows why I incorporate modern science in teaching this Fa. Why do I do this? The reason is that I want to break that shell of yours that prevents you from obtaining the Fa." At the human level, because of the influence of the Western liberal and democratic environment, many practitioners in America have a strong attachment of "self" or "expanded self" (like our team, our project, our area and etc.) Particularly on the issues of practicing outside and going to practice sites, the need to improve in these areas becomes paramount. Actually, the issue is not whether we should go to the practice site or how others need to take better care of the practice site; rather, the issue is how we, as Fa particles, should use righteous thoughts to treat the practice site and be responsible for this cultivation environment. If one accepts the idea of the practice site only when it conforms to his/her understanding, and is not accepting when the idea does not conform to his/her understanding, this is a manifestation of human attachments.
Being persistent in going to the practice site and cultivating in that environment can break through many of our ordinary people's notions. This improvement can in turn enable us, as Fa particles, to exert a more pure influence in the Fa-rectification process and to form a strong unified body. As a unified body, we will then be able to do well in what we are supposed to do, including the Dafa projects that need cooperation among practitioners in different areas.

(Clearwisdom.net) Around two months ago, I applied for a QQ ID [QQ: A popular instant messaging system commonly used in China and the Asia-Pacific] for the purpose of doing Fa-rectification on the Internet. The people I come across there are all possibilities for Hongfa [clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa]. Yet, at the beginning, due to fear, I oftentimes would rush to quickly log-off after sending a message. First, there was the fear of being arrested, then the fear of not being able to answer difficult questions, and then there was the fear of being cursed and sworn at without reason.
Through Fa study and hongfa activities, I realised that these fears were not right. We should clarify the truth to people nobly. So, one night last week, when I logged on to the Internet, I opened up my QQ account first. I was shocked when, just as I succeeded in logging on, I received a message saying, "Found you, finally." I thought I had encountered a spy on the web, and felt slightly nervous for a split second, but immediately I realised that there was nothing to fear. So I answered calmly, "What is the matter?" and we started chatting. The following is our brief conversation:
Other side: You sent me an email around two months ago, right?
Me: Yes. Did you read it?
Other side: I did read it. It was about xx Gong. (He used similar sounding characters to make fun of Dafa.)
Me: Looks like you hold some prejudice towards us.
Other side: If I am prejudiced, I wouldn't have waited for you for such a long time.
Me: Do you understand people who cultivate?
Other side: Someone who does exercise early every morning, doesn't seem like a bad person.
Me: We are all good people. We are being wronged.
Other side: Can you talk about yourself? Why do you do Falun Gong? (He corrected the way he referred to Dafa, though still not using the correct word for "practise.")
Me: Yes. Of course, I've nothing to hide. I have received a high-level education. I am an official in the government, a Party member, and received many years of training and education from the Party. I know what "superstition" is. I also know what atheism is. By an odd chance, I had the opportunity to read Zhuan Falun. I found what the book says to be very good and correct. It teaches people to be good people. It also gives people a good body and health, so I started to learn. We are not anti-government, nor are we foolish and irrational.
Other side: I did not say you are foolish and irrational.
Me: Then why does the "Tiananmen Self-Immolation Case" call us foolish and irrational?
Other side: Wasn't that foolish and irrational?
Me: If it was real, of course it was foolish. But it was a hoax. The regime is using propaganda to set us up.
Other side: Why so?
Me: We respect the life of others; we respect our own lives all the same. Our Teacher told us that killing others or oneself are both sinful crimes. Besides, if suicide can make us into Buddhas, why would we bother to wait until now and why would it have to be Tiananmen Square?
Other side: Sounds reasonable. Can you tell me the details of the "self-immolation?"
Me: It is hard to explain in just a few sentences. Please take a look at this web site (gave him a hongfa web site that's accessible from mainland China). There you can find the truth about many events.
Other side: Alright, I will. But why should I trust you?
Me: I am not forcing you to believe. Nobody has the right to force you to believe anything. You can judge with your conscience after you've read. You will naturally be able to tell the genuine from the fake.
Other side: Where do you get your information from? Why do you believe it?
Me: These things happen to me, or to cultivators around me. Genuine cultivators are people who can give up their lives for speaking the truth. If I do not believe in them, who can I believe?
Other side: Okay, I will give it a good read. By the way, do you know that originally I was going give you a round of scolding, but for some reason, I just felt that you were not a bad person, so I waited for you. Do you hope that I practice Gong as well? Do you wish that I would join you?
Me: I sincerely appreciate your trust. Also, even if you really did scold me, I would not be angry with you. Of course, I hope you practise Gong too, but no one can force you to. You will make your own choice after reading Zhuan Falun and the information.
Other side: I can feel that you are sincere. That's all for today, bye for now.
Just like this, another life has been saved. I can deeply appreciate that many beings are longing for Dafa. As a Fa-rectification disciple, we have such a grand, holy, difficult and pressing duty to "offer salvation to people." Fa-rectification has reached the final moment of its final stage. We must not be lazy or slack off any more. We must not "pursue comfort and ease" any longer.
We must continue to do better and better, maximally spread the Fa and tell people the truth, to be worthy of the title of "Fa-rectification Dafa Disciple."

At almost the same time as the above event, I also came across a person on the Internet who spoke loudly of how "the Party gave us fortunate lives." He was very talkative, the questions he asked were difficult, and he would not believe all the truth that I told him. In his words there was often the tendency or tone of insult. I used my personal experiences and the truth-clarifying information that I am familiar with, I used the compassion and wisdom given to me from cultivating Dafa, and I answered all his questions during our conversation. I kept my attitude sincere and "not superior nor inferior," and left him no room to attack. Although he claimed to have "very high standard linguistic skills," in our conversation he appeared to be at the end of his wits, and he had to apologise to me at the end of the conversation after I told him that swearing is not a good deed. He even asked me, "Can we be friends?"

My mother went to Beijing to appeal to the government to end the persecution of Falun Dafa and was detained by the police for nearly 10 months. During her detention she rectified distortions wherever she was held, as a practitioner ought to do. The perpetrators hated her, but, at the same time, they were afraid of her. They exhausted their methods of torture to break her, but failed. Our family was in a state of passive endurance for a long time. One day my sister called and asked me to get back home as soon as possible. When I arrived home, my father told us that my mother hadn't been able to eat or drink anything for four days due to the torture and that she was very weak. He gave us a strip of paper with her handwritten statement, "My last pledge: I hereby validate with my life to the sentient beings in the cosmos and the people in the world that Falun Dafa is the fundamental law of the cosmos. Falun Dafa is good. The teacher of Falun Dafa is good. I call upon the righteous minds and consciences of people with my life and body. I ask people to maintain their kindness, for it will determine their future. To treasure the great law of the cosmos is to treasure one's life." She also told my father, "If I cannot walk out of the detention center openly and with dignity, I won't mind discarding this human body." Hearing that, I said, "We cannot sit by and endure this any more." My father immediately called the authorities at his work place. We told them over the phone that they would "take the responsibility if my mother died." We contacted every family member to go together the following day to demand my mother's release. My brother-in-law is not a practitioner, but he also wanted to go with us. I was happy for him. I sent forth righteous thoughts that they would release my mother in three days. But my wife and sister said we should ask for an immediate release. I agreed. How could the persecution be allowed to go on for another day? They should release my mother immediately. I strengthened my righteous thoughts. When I returned to my home, I told my mother-in-law briefly about the situation and asked her family to send forth righteous thoughts. She said simply, "You can count on that."
Seeing that our whole family went to the workplace to demand my mother's release, the authorities asked two people from the 610 Office (a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches) for a solution. I knew them from when I was sent to the brainwashing class. One of them had been promoted to a position of being in charge of the 610 Office at a higher level. We waited till noon before they were ready to see us. Four or five people were sitting in the room waiting for us. We took our seats and a person from the 610 Office started to talk nonsense. I stopped him and declared what we wanted. I also told him the principle of due retribution that good is rewarded with good and evil is met with evil. He jerked with fury, stared at me, and told me not to say anything about Falun Gong. If I did, the conversation would be ended. I didn't know what to say except to keep on sending forth righteous thoughts. My sister said, "I am not talking to you about Falun Gong. I am talking to you about the facts." My wife said, "Why are you so afraid of talking about Falun Gong? Why are you so afraid of talking reason?" I couldn't hear what they were saying. I discovered my fear. I remembered what Teacher says in "Eliminate Your Last Attachment(s)", "If a cultivator can let go of the thought of life and death under any circumstances, evil is bound to be afraid of him. If every practitioner is able to do this, evil will of itself no longer exist." I strengthened my righteous thoughts.
At that time, they were taking advantage of my brother-in-law by asking him to persuade my father to write a letter renouncing Falun Gong. They said it was impossible to make my mother write it, so my father could write and send it to his workplace or the sub-county government. As long as he did that, they would release my mother. My brother-in-law nodded. He was thinking of getting my mother out first. I said right away that, as her son, I admired my mother. I would tell my children what kind of person their grandmother was. She was a good person, living with dignity. We would never write any letter of renunciation. I said these words in a calm and peaceful manner. The people from 610 Office were furious, "I didn't ask you to write it." He stared at me with his eyes wide open. I looked straight at him and said calmly, "We will not write any renunciation. You have to set my mother free." Silence. He stared fiercely at me. I kept on looking at him calmly. Behind his eyes, I saw uncertainty and weakness, while I had the strong righteous thoughts. Finally, he said, "To tell you the truth. I admire your mother, too." But we still didn't get what we wanted. We demanded to see my mother. Seeing that we were unwavering, they agreed. They still intended to play some tricks, but they were weak and fruitless.
On the way to visit my mother, it occurred to me that our cultivation way is to cultivate mind and body. Our bodies are transformed in Dafa. The evil force doesn't deserve to seize our bodies, not even one hair. I wrote the idea on a piece of paper and asked my brother-in-law to take it to my mother. My mother waved to us from the 9th floor near the barred window. She called us on my brother-in-law's cell phone and said, "I know. I know. Everything is arranged by our Teacher. Don't you worry." Her voice was clear and sweet. We waited for a long time before my brother-in-law got downstairs. Later we learned that he had gone to see the people in charge and told them to learn the lesson from the Cultural Revolution. None of those who initiated political campaigns and persecuted people ended up well. After visiting my mother, my brother-in-law was silent for quite some time. He finally said, "She is a terrible scene." My wife, my sister, and I had been sending forth righteous thoughts. Our minds were firm. On the way back home, the people from 610 Office called and told us to take my mother home the next day. All of our family worked in the medical field. Based on the description by my brother-in-law, my sister asked me to carry my mother home on my back.
The next morning, on the way to take my mother home, my father said, "Your mother probably won't let you carry her. She said she would walk out of the cell openly and with dignity. You can carry her after she gets downstairs. That will be different." I nodded. I had a thought before I arrived there: They don't deserve a word from Dafa practitioners. They couldn't stand any word from us, either. I thought they were going to make it difficult for us and I was ready to face them. To my surprise, I encountered no difficulties at all. Nor did I see anyone I had anticipated. Nobody asked me to write anything this time. I didn't even see people in black police uniforms. Everything went so smoothly. The security people, the people on duty, and the police all stood near the wall in the corridor with various expressions on their faces. My mother walked slowly but steadily, holding her head up high under their gaze. One step after another, she walked with dignity out of the cell where she had been detained for months. She never let me take her by the arm. When she got downstairs, she stood in the wind with no sign of fatigue and said, "I am Teacher's student. Teacher's students are good."
"Don't Even Give Them One Penny"
In a county detention center a Falun Dafa practitioner went on a hunger strike for a long time. Eventually, the police department asked his family to come get him. When his family arrived, a policeman in the political security section tried to extort 2000 Yuan for "living expenses" before releasing the practitioner. After seeing the cruel persecution with his own eyes for two years, the practitioner's seventy-year-old grandfather realized the nature of the evil force. He refused firmly, "Don't even give them one penny." One of their neighbors also agreed, "Don't let them extort money from you. If they are able to make money through this, they will arrest you again." Five days later the practitioner was released unconditionally.
"Stay Steadfast in Your Beliefs"
There was a practitioner who cultivated firmly in Falun Dafa and the township hall in the county where he lived kept a close eye on him and tried to brainwash him. One of the officials had a sense of righteousness and spoke with this practitioner on two different occasions. Using his own personal experience the practitioner validated Falun Dafa to him. The third time, the official told the practitioner with a serious tone, "Brother, I don't know very much about Falun Gong, but I trust you. Just stay steadfast in your beliefs."
A Restaurant Owner Moved by a Practitioner's Righteous Mind
A practitioner named Chen had a customer who is an owner of a restaurant. This restaurant owner said there were fewer large dinner parties than before utilizing public funds because many state-run workplaces were lacking money. She was making the assumption that corruption increased her business. Chen spoke to her with his righteous mind, telling her that it is far better to be honest in performing official duties, so that people will have a wonderful life and want to spend money for family dinners in restaurants. The restaurant owner was sincerely convinced.

During my mother's birthday party, my brother played a VCD showing the truth about Falun Dafa for our relatives and friends in celebration of her birthday. After watching the solemn and stirring scene of practitioners in Tiananmen Square, the spreading of Falun Dafa abroad, and the pictures of the practitioners who were tortured to death everyone was filled with compassion and respect. Previously my brother knew little about Falun Dafa. After getting a sense of the truth, he said, "Falun Gong is good. I should practice it." He took a VCD to show to his other relatives.
(Clearwisdom.net) Xiangyu is a five-year-old girl. She has been an extraordinary child since she was born. She has four swastika [ancient Buddhist symbol] shaped birth marks, three on her left shoulder and one on her lower back. When she was just past the age of one, the first words she spoke were "Buddha's Fa" (fo fa) while pointing at a copy of Zhuan Falun. Her grandmother thought that she was saying "Papa" (ba ba), but feeling that she was misunderstood, she shook her head, and continued pointing at Zhuan Falun, while saying "Buddha's Fa." She then took a pen and drew circles on the paper as if she was writing the characters for "Buddha's Fa."
When she plays with other kids, she is always bullied for no reason, but she never fights back. In some cases, when she was been beaten badly, she cried and told her grandmother, "They gave me virtue [de]."
More amazingly, she will stop playing with any interesting toys and immediately sit down if she hears her grandmother talking about cultivation or when she hears practitioners reading Falun Dafa books. She will sit there with eyes wide open until they finish.
From the time that she was three and a half, she has been to Tiananmen Square with her grandmother three times to validate Falun Dafa. On each journey, she ran about waving her hands, and called out, "Falun Dafa is good!"
In July of this year, the police arrested her and her grandmother, and detained them in a local police station. Several hours later, they walked out by sending forth righteous thoughts. Again, they joined the mighty current of Fa-rectification.

1. [Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province] Practitioner Zuo Xiuyun is Arbitrarily Arrested Right After Release from the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp
Practitioner Zuo Xiuyun (female) from Jiamusi City was arrested right after she was released from the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. She is currently being held at the Jiamusi Custodial Center. 2. [Shouguang City, Shandong Province] Authorities Conduct Show Trial and Sentence Practitioners to Labor Camps
On the morning of December 4, 2001, an "open meeting" which was in reality a show trial, was held in front of Shouguang City Theatre that was attended by some officials from the local government offices including: Vice Party Secretary of the city government Zhu Lekai and officials from the People's Congress, the Court, the Procuratorate, and the Police Department. The names of some attendees are: Wu Hengxiang, Xia Hongmao, Zhang Jintang, Zhang Yanming, Sheng Wanbo, Yuan Yinjie, Wang Maoxing, and Liu Xingming. The Vice Director of Shouguang City Police Department Zhao read the verdict. Several practitioners were given sentences of one to two years. The crimes they were charged with included "hiding Falun Gong books," "distributing Falun Gong flyers," and "unfurling Falun Gong banners at Tiananmen Square." The practitioners were: Liu Zongshan (male, about 50, from the town of Hualong in Shouguang City), Chen Guotai (male, from the town of Beiluo in Shouguang City), Li Ailing (female, about 55, from the town of Jitai in Shouguang City), Sun Yufang (female), and two practitioners whose last names were Wang and Sun.
3. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] The Persecution of Practitioners from the Xinqu Thermo-electric Plant
Since April 1999, the Xinqu Thermo-electric Plant in Tangshan City has been harassing Falun Gong practitioners that work at the plant . Things got worse after July 22, 1999 when the Chinese government started persecuting Falun Gong. Anyone in the plant who defended the practice of Falun Gong received harsh treatment. The following are some examples.
Practitioner Zhao Baohui was sent to Tangshan No.1 Custodial Center. The plant punished him by holding his position for only a year.
Kang Qun was sent to Tangshan No. 2 Custodial Center on two occassions by his workplace and was sentenced to a labor camp.
Li Yingjie was sent to Tangshan No. 1 Custodial Center by his workplace and was sentenced to a labor camp.
He Yan (female) was sent by her workplace to a brainwashing class set up by Tangshan "Public Transportation Committee."
Xiao Du was punished for not participating in the "signature campaign," organized by the workplace to slander Falun Dafa.
Li Yushu's house was ransacked by the public security department of his workplace and was sent to Tangshan No. 1 Custodial Center.
Liu Zhiyong has been illegally detained many times by his workplace and was twice sent to Tangshan No. 1 and No.2 Custodial Center, twice to a brainwashing class set up by Tangshan "Public Transportation Committee." He left home and currently has no fixed address in order to avoid further persecution.
The Xinqu Thermo-electric Plant in Tangshan City used financial punishment against the practitioners employed there, and also attempted to incite the employees into hating Falun Dafa and its practitioners. The company made it a rule that when any practitioner appealed to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong, everyone in his workshop would be forced to share a penalty of 300,000 Yuan [the average monthly income of a worker in urban area is about 500 Yuan].

Liu Yunchao, male, 45, was illegally jailed for 15 days in January 2000 for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. In April 2000, he was illegally detained and sent to a brainwashing class in Jiangan District for more than a month. On October 25, while preparing Dafa materials in a fellow practitioner's home, he was arrested by police from Siwei Street Police Station, illegally detained and tortured for about one year. He has since been illegally sentenced to 2 years in Hewan Forced Labor Camp in Wuhan City.
Luo Yuanying, female, 42, a clerk in the Industry and Business Bureau of Hankou, Wuhan City, was illegally jailed several times because she had gone twice to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. She was illegally held and sent to a brainwashing class in Jiangan District for over 6 months. On October 25, while preparing Dafa materials in a fellow practitioner's home, she was arrested by police from Siwei Street Police Station, unlawfully detained and tortured for about a year. She was tortured for practicing while in the jail, yet she did not give in. She has been sentenced to 2 years of forced labor in Hewan Forced Labor Camp, Wuhan City.
Qu Dongju, female, 32, was arrested for practicing Falun Gong in Bingjiang Park in December 1999. She was detained and sent to a brainwashing class in Jiangan District for over 8 months. On October 25, while preparing Dafa materials in a fellow practitioner's home, she was arrested by the police, detained, and tortured for about a year in the First Detention Center, Wuhan City. She has been unlawfully sentenced to imprisonment.
Lu Lixian, female, 32, was jailed for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa, but escaped and had to leave home with her 7 year-old daughter to avoid being arrested again. Her husband is detained in Hewan Forced Labor Camp. In April 2001, police raided the place where she was staying and illegally arrested her and other Dafa practitioners including her daughter. She is now detained in the First Detention Center, Wuhan City.
5. [Beijing] Crimes Committed by Police
I went to Tiananmen with a few elderly women to validate Dafa by unfurling banners. Police in Tiananmen violently pushed us into a police car. Making no distinction between men and women, they locked us together in a big steel cage with no food or water, and they didn't allow us to use the bathroom. That evening, we were sent in pairs to different police stations and still not allowed to use the bathroom. I was forced to tell my name, but on the way home I escaped from the police.
The Guangming Police Station in Shunyi County, Beijing has no justice. The police hypocritically treated me well at the beginning, then turned to violence. A 20 year-old officer called Xu Jian (male, badge number: 408751) once said to some female Dafa practitioners, "Other police have raped practitioners, I don't want to do the same." Practitioners told him the truth of Dafa, and he replied, "I am not afraid of going to Hell." Then, he shocked the practitioners with an electric baton. After Dafa practitioners cried for help, other police stopped him. Another Dafa practitioner was shocked with the baton and cruelly beaten.

Liu Aiyang, female, 52, a retiree in Hebei Normal University was kidnapped on December 5, 2001 by Guangan Street Community Office and sent to a brainwashing class. Retired teacher Zhang Xiuzhen was sent to the brainwashing class on October 9, and still has not been released.
8. [Nanchang, Hunan Province] What Kind of Law is This?
Zhang Li, female, in her thirties, was illegally sentenced to one year in prison by Xihu District Court in Nanchang City. In the court, she solemnly said, "Falun Dafa is good," and as a result, her sentence was extended to three years.
9. [Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province] "6-10 Office" Committed a New Round of Crimes
In the past several days, police and local officials in Hegang started a new round of persecution against Dafa practitioners by searching practitioners' homes or workplaces, and confiscating computers and Dafa materials.
The Hegang city government, local police, and a "6-10 office" started a so-called "100-day mass campaign," aimed at putting pressure on Dafa practitioners and slandering Falun Dafa. They followed practitioners everywhere they went, tapped their phones, searched their homes, and kidnapped them. So far, a few practitioners have been arrested, but most have left their homes to avoid being arrested.

Three Dafa practitioners were arrested in their homes, simply because the police suspected that they spread the truth about Falun Dafa. The three practitioners are: Li Yuhua, female, in her fifties; Shi Shuzhen, female, 46; Shi Yongcheng, male, 66, who was illegally jailed for more than four months for going to Beijing to appeal and was recently released.

11. [Hainan Province] Shangongli Forced Labor Camp Brutally Persecutes Dafa Practitioners
Practitioners in both Shangongli Male and Female Forced Labor Camps have not met with their families for four months. The camps do not allow practitioners' families to send them clothes, even though the weather is already very cold. Information is tightly blocked, so practitioners' families do not even know if the practitioners are still alive.
The Resident Committee of Haikou City, the Neighborhood Committee, the County Government, the Security Department and the Police Station have set up brainwashing classes in which they try to force practitioners to give up their belief in Dafa. Currently, a large number of practitioners have been kidnapped or deceived into going to these classes. These committees and departments are penalized if practitioners who are put under their "care" refuse to renounce Dafa.
The guards in the classes use all kinds of brutal means to torture practitioners. Practitioners are often denied sleep and suffer various mental and physical tortures. The guards abuse the laws and deprive practitioners of their most fundamental rights. They transfer practitioners who refuse to write the "guarantee statements"[renouncing Falun Dafa] directly to the forced labor camps.
12. [Bazhong City, Sichuan Province] Facts about the Persecution of Dafa Practitioners
On February 1, 2001, Bazhong Custodial Center illegally detained a large number of practitioners. Among those whose names are known are Yan Huiying, Zhou Taishu, Gou Jufen, Lei Juzhen, Yang Qinghua, Zhou Lihua. Yan Huiying was sentenced for four years and Zhou Taishu for two and a half years. The guards were heard telling them, "If you pass out one more flyer, that means one more year of imprisonment!"
In October 2001, Bazhong Custodial Center illegally incarcerated Liao Guifang and Han Zhencai, practitioners in the Huacong Region. The guards extorted from them a large sum of money before releasing them.
The following people in Bazhong City have repeatedly arrested, beat and extorted money from practitioners. They are:
Li, Director of the Yushan Security Department in Bazhong City Liu Daming, Chief of the Third Village of Jinshan County Qiao Jinhui, Secretary of the County Zhao Gang, Guard of the Bazhong Custodial Center
Zhao Guoxue, a male practitioner from Yushan County, was sent to a labor camp for one year for appealing in Beijing. His home was ransacked many times. His wife was arrested three times, and his son was forced to stay away from home in order to avoid arrest. Even his grandson, a nine-year-old child, was detained for a few days.
13. [Jianyang City, Sichuan Province] Facts about the Persecution of Dafa Practitioners
So far, two practitioners have been given prison terms, seven sent to labor camps, and 97 have been detained a total of 138 times. Four practitioners have been expelled from the party, five were dismissed from their civil jobs, and six have had their pensions suspended. 39 practitioners have been extorted out of more than 200,000 Yuan. Seven practitioners have been detained for long periods of time without legal procedures.

As practitioners in China face tremendous pressure to give up their beliefs under the Chinese regime's brutal persecution, there are those who have given in and signed documents renouncing Falun Dafa. "Solemn declarations" are the public statements made by such practitioners, often at great risk to their personal safety, to declare to the world that the documents they signed under duress are null and void and that they will continue to practice Falun Dafa.

(Clearwisdom.net) On October 8, 2000, I arrived at Tiananmen Square after I freed myself from the questioning of the plainclothes police in the streets of Beijing. There was one guard positioned every three steps and one sentry post every five steps. [The security was extremely tight.] There were also plainclothes police lined up in a long row at the center of the Square, waiting to change shifts in view of the public. There were police vehicles everywhere. I selected a crowded spot with lots of people passing by to do the sitting meditation. As a result, I was pulled away by a few plainclothes policemen and put into a police vehicle. I was sent to a police station in Beijing, and was told that I was the 300th practitioner arrested at Tiananmen Square that day.
On the same day, my local government's liaison office in Beijing came to take me back to my hometown. I stayed in their liaison office in Beijing for 24 hours, forced to wear handcuffs even while sleeping. The local police station sent one male and one female police officer to escort back the other two female practitioners that were also arrested in Beijing for appealing to the government to stop its persecution of Falun Gong. They searched my body and confiscated 570 Yuan. [The monthly wage of an average urban worker in China is 500 Yuan]. They didn't give me any receipt and claimed that the money was to buy train tickets. The next day, all three of us were handcuffed together and boarded the train. We were transferred to a police vehicle when we reached our destination station.
One of the female practitioners that was arrested told me that she arrived at Tiananmen Square on China's National Day on October 1, 2000. At that time the Square had already been cordoned off. She saw numerous police surrounding nearly a thousand practitioners and brutally beating and kicking them. The police said to another practitioner, "I could never imagine that you would go to Beijing. With only 20 Yuan left, how did you expect to return home from Beijing?" She had walked more than 40 km (25 miles) during the night before taking the train to Beijing.
Several hours later, we arrived at the local police station and we were "greeted" with the sounds of rude swearing. The two staff assigned to specially "take care of" the two female practitioners faced the threat of being dismissed from duty, since these practitioners managed to get to Beijing while they were on duty. Within ten minutes after we were locked up in the detention room, the two female practitioners were taken away. Then the voices of their husbands could be heard from next door. The husbands had been locked up there after their wives left for Beijing and had been only given one meal a day. At this time, the chief of the police station came and I asked him "Their family members do not practice Falun Gong, why have you locked them up?" "They are relatives of counter-revolutionary family members!" was the reply. I was called to the office. The three of us were handcuffed together again, with me in the center. The chief said, "Let them shout the slogan. [Note: The "slogan" was to say slanderous words against Falun Gong] Anyone who doesn't shout will be beaten. It doesn't matter how badly they are beaten, I will take the responsibility, as along as they still have one breath left." A short and stout man rushed forward (It was said that he was the deputy chief ) and yelled at me, "Are you going to shout [the slogan]?" "No!" I replied calmly and firmly. He then slapped my face on both sides. I only felt a little numbness and did not feel any pain. I only saw his hands sweeping from afar towards me and he only stopped when he had become exhausted. "Will you shout [the slogan] or not?" I shook my head in refusal. He slapped me two more times. I only had one thought: I'd rather die than shout [the slanderous slogans]! I looked at the indifferent or sneering faces around the room and felt sad for them.
The sky that was previously clear and cloudless suddenly became covered with dark dense clouds, and the rain was incessant. The late autumn was quite chilly at the plains of the Yangtze River. We were forced to parade through the streets wearing only thin clothing and a signboard hanging around our necks. I repeatedly recited the phrase from Teacher's article, "Eliminate Your Last Attachment(s)," "If you are not afraid, the factor that would make you afraid will become non-existent." No matter whether the loudspeaker on the truck behind us loudly broadcast "This is the disgraceful end of practicing Falun Gong!" I recited without stopping. With the incessant cursing of the hatchet men on the side prodding us with tree branches; the harassing calls from the many hatchet men behind us yelling, "Walked off track, Walking too fast, Walking too slowly." or the continuous flashing of the cameras, I recited without stopping. There were many spectators and most of them were indifferent. Many also asked about the identity of the persons whose names were written on the signboards, and what kind of practice Falun Gong is. Some people said, "It has become the Great Cultural Revolution again, it must be the doings of Jiang Zemin!" They didn't finish the parade until we had passed through several streets and the crowds started to leave, even the sky was crying. That evening I was escorted away by police from my hometown police station after they paid the local police station 1400 Yuan.
All the practitioners in my city who had gone to Beijing to validate Dafa were fined a few thousand to twenty thousand Yuan upon their return. Some became financially ruined and destitute from the exorbitant fines. Our related work units were all fined 10,000 Yuan. I was fined 2,000 Yuan and detained for 8 days. This is what they call obtaining "bail" before the trial.
I do not hate or resent anyone. On the contrary, there is only deep concern for these police that continue to do things that help the evil. I sincerely hope that all those police officers abandon their wickedness and become good people. To them I say, "Do not use any excuse to shirk your responsibility. Fame and profit are transient. Think of the future of your life; if you conduct evil deeds, in the future, you must suffer the retribution! "Good is rewarded with good and evil is met with evil" is forever the unchangeable law of heaven! Persecuting a Dafa pracitioner is a heinous crime, rescuing and helping a Dafa practitioner will gain one boundless merit!"

1. It was revealed that the 18 female Dafa practitioners who were thrown into male cells at the evil Masanjia Forced Labor Camp had been stripped naked and shocked with electric batons by male guards before being thrown into the cells.
2. Four practitioners Jiang Xiufang, Li Mingte, Meng Yuhua and Li Yuan (pseudonym) were illegally arrested by the police for hanging up Dafa banners. During the time when they were interrogated at the Yaochang police station in Dadong District, all four practitioners were brutally beaten by the police. Li Mingte's legs were beaten black and blue, and Li Yuan's ten fingers and upper body were covered with wounds from being stabbed with needles. The torture they suffered was too horrible to look at.
3. Practitioner Ren Shujie, female, in her 30s, was illegally arrested for distributing truth-clarifying materials. She was interrogated by the Tiexi District Zhonggong police station, and by Liu Qing, a policeman from the political security section of Tiexi District Police Department. Her legs were beaten black and blue with wooden sticks.
4. Practitioner Yang Sheng'ai, female, 40 years old, was illegally arrested for putting up small truth-clarifying posters, and was sent to Longshan Forced Labor Camp for one and a half years. Practitioner Bai Xiujuan, female, around 30 years old, was illegally arrested for distributing truth-clarifying materials, and was subjected to shocks from many electric batons by policemen Liu Qing, Li Song and Zhang Yongbin. While being illegally detained at Shenyang City Detention Center, Bai Xiujuan and Yang Sheng'ai, holding the view that Dafa practitioners are innocent, good people, refused to wear the uniforms for criminals. Because of this, they were shackled and their hands were cuffed behind their backs by a female guard surnamed Yao.
5. At Shenyang City Detention Center, Falun Gong practitioners are often shackled or tortured by criminals under the orders of the guards for not wearing prison uniforms, refusing to recite prison regulations, going on hunger strikes or doing exercises. Practitioner Wang Hong, female, from Kangping, had been cuffed with her hands behind her back, and she had to be helped by others when washing herself or going to the toilet. Under the instigation of the evil guards, a few sadistic men headed by Meng Li tortured her by raping her using the bottleneck of a water bottle forced into her vagina.
6. Practitioners Xue Shanghua (female) and Dong Tingyuan (male), a couple, were arrested with out charge in August 2001.
Ma Baojun, female, was also arrested with out charge in September.
Ma Lianxiao, female, 51 years old, was arrested with out charge in May for distributing Dafa truth-clarification literature. During her detention, she went on a hunger strike to demand her release, and was later released when her life was in danger.
Wu Qifang, female, around 50 years old, was arrested with out charge.
Zhu Guiqin, female, around 50 years old, was arrested with out charge in August.
Chen Lili, female, around 40 years old, had been on a hunger strike while being detained, and has now become very emaciated. She is still being detained.
Xu Min, female, over 50 years old, has been detained with no legal procedure for over seven months, and is still not released.
Wu Yanping, female, 40 years old, went on a hunger strike to protest against the unlawful detention and the persecution of good, innocent people. She has now become very emaciated and even spit out blood.
Jing Tian, female, 32 years old, was arrested for possessing Dafa truth-clarifying materials. She went on a hunger strike to protest against the arbitrary arrest and detention, and was later sent to Shenyang Dabei prison hospital. An arrest warrant was issued against her, and she was arrested in May with out charge. In November, she was "released on bail" when her life was in danger as a result of hunger strike.
Chen Jun, Jing Tian's mother, 64 years old, was arrested for possessing Dafa truth-clarifying materials, and is now being detained with out trial at the Longshan Forced Labor Camp for 3 years of forced labor.
Dai Guiyun, female, about 40 years old, was summarily sentenced with out trial to forced labor in July.
Tan Xinyu, male, about 30 years old, was arrested for possessing a large quantity of Dafa truth-clarifying materials. He has now been sent to Beijing.
Shi Yanzhu, male, 37 years old, was arrested in May for possessing Dafa truth-clarifying materials.
7. Gao Qiuju, formerly chief assistant of Dalian City Falun Gong Assistance Center, was sentenced to 9 years imprisonment with out any legal procedure. She is now jailed in Shenyang City Dabei Prison, and is forced to do hours of labor work everyday. Due to extensive exposure to the burning sun, half of her face is deeply sunburned. She is deprived of the freedom of speech, watching TV or reading newspapers, and is even followed and watched when going to the toilet. When meeting with her family members, there are always policemen sitting around, monitoring what they say.

I am 45 years old. On January 18, 2001, I was arrested by the police while clarifying the truth of Falun Dafa. They first detained me for 38 days at the custodial center. Then they sentenced me to three years in labor camp. I was sent to the Tieling City Forced Labor Camp at the beginning of April 2001.
The Tieling City Forced Labor Camp use various inhuman methods to torture practitioners. With these means, the labor camp strives to break the will of practitioners and have them rescind their beliefs. The methods of torture employed include: verbal abuse, beating, slapping in the face, forcing to kneel down, shocking with electric batons, denying sleep, heavy labor work, forcing to stand in painful positions, beating with planks, forcing one to smell the toilet [open cesspits], hanging up by ropes, digging the eyes, various tortures of the genitals, burning with cigarette butts, and forbidding to speak. I myself witnessed many steadfast practitioners being beating or shocked by electric batons.
When Chief Officer Wang Zhibin attempted to persuade me to give up Falun Dafa, I introduced Falun Dafa to them. I wrote 4 letters to persuade them to read Zhuan Falun with a clear mind and to treat practitioners nicely. But they would not listen. Instead, they tried to force me to write "three letters," i.e. a repentant letter, a letter of renouncement, and a letter of condemnation of Falun Gong.
One day in early April, Wang Zhibin asked me to step into his office. The Deputy Chief Officer Wang Xuanjun was also present. They read some articles from the newspaper and the letters written by former practitioners who had given up practicing due to torture in the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. As to the letter I had written them, Wang Zhibin said, "You asked us to read Zhuan Falun. You want us to practice Falun Gong, too? But we are policemen. We have to follow the directions of the authorities." He then tried to force me to write the "three letters." I refused. He used an electric baton to shock me four times. He threatened to make me an example for the whole team. After an hour of torture, I still didn't give in. Finally, Wang said, "Next time you refuse to write, I will strip you naked before using the electric baton."
On April 10, because practitioner Zhang Xiangyi refused to write the "three letters" in front of his wife and mother, he was subjected to severe beating and electric shock torture. From April 15 to 18, practitioners Dong Qinyu, Liu Jun, and Wei Guojun were beaten and shocked because they made handwritten copies of Teacher's articles and practiced the exercises. In order to protest the persecution, 27 of us wrote a letter to oppose their conduct. The labor camp forced practitioners to do labor work on April 21. They also instructed the inmates to monitor our every move, forbidding us from talking to each other or eating together. They even had the inmates sleep between practitioners. The practitioners have no personal freedom at all in the labor camp. They are forced to do extremely heavy work for long hours. Even worse, the police guards are taking advantage of the cheap labor and making money from us, feeding us with only corn bread and a bowl of thin soup everyday.
At the noon of June 10, just after we had finished the work, guard Wang Dongqing was talking to practitioner Han Haidong. Simply because Han Haidong was trying to reason with him, Wang Dongqing gave him several punches in the head and face. I cried out to stop him. Wang Dongqing roared, "You are not allowed to speak." The guards are as fierce as Wang towards practitioners, but sometimes the inmates are even worse.
On the evening of June 13, Wang Dongqing discovered Teacher's articles beneath Zhang Xiangyi's bed. He went crazy, beating and shocking him severely. Then he pointed at me with the electric baton. When he found some articles hidden in my bed, he punched and shocked me, demanding me to tell the source of the articles, and who had read or copied them. I told him I was the one read them and copied them. Because he saw that the handwriting was not mine, he beat and cursed us furiously. Zhang Xiangyi's leg was injured and hasn't yet recovered. Liu Baokui was hurt, too, and still has difficulties working. Nonetheless, they were forced to work everyday.
Liu Baokui suffered from pain in his chest after the beating and couldn't do the work. So Wang Dongqing forced him to stand in one place, forbidding him to participate in any activities or to talk to people. Nobody was allowed to talk to him, either. An inmate who had committed theft framed Liu Baokui for his own benefit and beat him tremendously, but the guards didn't intervene. One of his eyes was seriously injured.
In "Dafa Disciples' Righteous Thoughts are Powerful," Teacher says, "No matter what the situation, do not cooperate with the evil's demands, orders, or what it instigates." I realized that we are the students of Teacher. Teacher does not recognize the arrangements of the old force in the cosmos, nor should we. To acknowledge their arrangements means to acknowledge their persecution. I must walk out of the labor camp openly and with dignity to reveal their evil deeds, to clarify the truth of Falun Gong, and to assist Teacher in the Fa-rectification.
Though I had come to such an understanding, it took some time before I could act accordingly and do it well. I had a conflict in my mind, hesitated, and was hindered by fear. After repeatedly reading Teacher's articles and exchanging ideas with practitioners, I realized that the appearance of the attachments reflected a lack of firm faith in the Fa. I had to eliminate the fear, strengthen my righteous thoughts, and walk out of the labor camp.
On June 23, 2001, as usual, I was taken to the Sangyuanling Brick Yard to work. It was noon and I kept on sending forth righteous thoughts for the guards not to see me. I took off the labor camp uniform and left the yard where there were four guards on watch at the four corners and one in the middle. I just walked away, right in front of their eyes, without fear or being nervous. I didn't really care whether they would chase me. The only thought I had is, "Teacher, I have to walk out of here to join in the current of the Fa-rectification." I walked fast and came to a road. A taxi stopped near me. I got into it and thus left the labor camp.
After I left, the police were horrified. They looked for me everywhere. They went to my home and my relatives' homes, and tried to intimidate them into turning me in. They also harassed other practitioners. Later, another practitioner Wang Quan also walked out of the labor camp by himself. It was another blow to the labor camp. In a panic, the police transferred some practitioners to the Liaoyang Forced Labor Camp.
Through the incident I experienced Teacher's greatness and benevolence, the solemnity of Dafa, and the power of righteous thoughts. I feel deeply that the evil forces are actually nothing and that the righteous thoughts of Dafa practitioners are powerful.

On the night of October 11, 2001, Zhang Ping, the President of the Labor Camp in Tonghua City, led over 10 jail guards to viciously beat six Falun Gong practitioners. He then confined practitioner Gai Yongguang and the other practitioners in a solitary compartment. These officers violated the law and destroyed their own consciences.
For a long time, the Labor Camp in Tonghua City has been using criminals to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. There is an unwritten rule that some jail guards and criminals could do whatever they like to practitioners. This includes physical abuse, beating and cursing them, along with stealing the practitioners' personal belongings. All this happened very often. The practitioners have asked the jail guards and labor camp leaders many times for fair treatment, but they were ignored.
On the night of October 11, 2001, practitioner Gai Yongguang asked the labor camp president, Zhang Ping, yet another time, not to persecute the practitioners. In reply, Zhang Ping cursed at him. At that time, there were no ways to submit their requests, so Gai Yongguang declared a hunger strike to protest the treatment by labor camp leaders such as the President Zhang Ping. Showing his ferocity, Zhang Ping cursed Gai Yongguang terribly and ordered all the other jail guards to fiercely beat him. Zhang Ping even shouted, "Beat him to death!" After the other five practitioners in the same cell heard this, they kindly tried to stop the officers' law-violating behavior and were therefore beaten badly also. Even an over 60-year-old man named Song Chuansen could not avoid this disaster. The practitioners lost control of their bowels and became incontinent from the severity of the beating. After that, the bandits cruelly tortured Gai along with the other practitioners for over 40 minutes. They confined three of them in a solitary compartment for no reason. Under these circumstances that are clearly beyond the limitations of forbearance, more than 20 practitioners started a hunger strike on the morning of October 12 to protest the persecution. There were five practitioners still on a hunger strike at the end of October.
During the period of the practitioners' hunger strike, Mao Shunde from the Political Department of the labor camp used an electric baton twice to shock the practitioners Bian Haoxiang and Wang Dianren who were on hunger strike.
In the middle of August, Cui Zhiyong from the Administration Department beat up and shocked practitioner Guo Changyu with an electric baton for over 40 minutes. There are countless examples of practitioners being threatened, beaten and cursed at by the criminals.
Even under such evil persecution, the practitioners still clarified the truth to the evil persecutors with their mercy, benevolence, and forbearance as Fa-rectification cultivators. They told them the heavenly principle that "Good is rewarded with good and evil is met with evil," and tried to persuade them to stop being controlled and taken advantage of by evil forces to persecute practitioners. They explained that treasuring Dafa is treasuring one's own life.

Han Guirong, female, 33 years old
In April 2000, Ms. Han went to Beijing to appeal and validate Dafa and was extorted 1000 Yuan by Liu Guoping, a governmental official of Jincheng Township. Police and Liu Guopping from Jincheng Township Police Station beat and verbally abused Ms. Han. She was unlawfully detained by the police station for 15 days. In June 2000, she went to Beijing again to validate Dafa with her son and was illegally detained for 39 days in the detention center of Shuangcheng City and 350 Yuan was extorted from her by the policemen in the detention center. Moreover, the official from Jincheng Township government, Liu Guoping illegally forced her to pay an additional 4000 Yuan.
Guan Fumin, male, 32 years old
Guan was arrested when he went to Beijing to make an appeal and validate Dafa on September 15, 1999 and was transferred on September 17 to the second detention center of Shuangcheng City where he was unlawfully detained for 72 days. He had 2000 Yuan extorted from him by policeman Li Changjin from Qingling Township police station between September and October of 1999, 4000 Yuan by the police department of Shuangcheng City in November and 576 Yuan by the Shuangcheng detention center. The repeated extortions left Mr. Guan in a financial crisis and under a large burden of debt. His younger brother, who was only 30 years old, died of an illness in September 2001 due to lack of money to pay for the medical treatment.
Liu Guoshun, male, 32 years old
Liu went to Beijing with his wife in April 2000 to make an appeal and validate Dafa. He was detained against his will for 15 days by Jincheng Township police station and had 1000 Yuan extorted from him by the official of Jincheng Township government, Liu Guoping. On June 21, 2000, he was arrested by local police while practicing Falun Gong at home and detained for 39 days in the detention center of Shuangcheng City. He endured all kinds of brutal beatings and humiliation. After being on a hunger strike for 5 days, he was sent to Yimianpo for forced-labor "re-education."
Cang Fengying, female, 49 years old
On March 4, 2000, the municipal military department head of Shuangcheng City, Liu Wenfu forcibly body searched Ms. Cang and took away 300 Yuan and her ID. On April 1st, 2000, she had 350 extorted Yuan from her by director Cui of the Shuangcheng second detention center and 350 Yuan on May 25 by policeman Liu Yuhua of the detention center. During her unlawful imprisonment in the detention center, the guards incited other prisoners to pull and drag her to the hallway to force her to stand facing the wall, barefooted. In June, she was sent to the municipal brainwashing class and was again extorted 200 Yuan by the military department head Liu Wenfu and 50 Yuan by the director Lu of Wanjia Forced-labor Camp in Harbin.
Liu Yating, female,58 years old
Ms. Liu went to Beijing to make a lawful appeal and validate Dafa and was arrested in the Shuangcheng train station by plainclothes police and was then sent directly to the second detention center of Shuangcheng City. Four days later, Shuangcheng "6-10 Office" official Zhang Guofu extorted 2000 Yuan from her family and then released her. On December 12, 2000, she went to Beijing again to make a peaceful appeal and was identified by railway police at Harbin train station when she refused to curse at Dafa and Master Li [Before allowing them to enter the gate, police ask each person to curse Falun Dafa in order to trap practitioners]. She was illegally imprisoned in the second detention center of Shuangcheng City. During the detention, she endured various inhuman treatments and was detained in the same room together with 40-50 people and was not allowed to sleep. They then started a hunger strike to demand an unconditional release. Three days later, she was released after being extorted 2000 Yuan by the Shuangcheng "6-10 Office," official Zhang Guofu and community office staff Qu Botao.
Wang Dongmei, female, 38 years old
Ms. Wang went to Beijing to make an appeal and validate Dafa with other fellow practitioners on July 6, 2000. When talking to fellow practitioners in a Beijing train station, she was arrested by plainclothes police and sent to the Zhanqian police station and then transferred to the Beijing office of Shuangcheng City. She and other practitioners were extorted 1300 Yuan by the Beijing office staff Wang Shengli and Jiang. The village officials asked her husband to sign a note that said Ms. Wang's family owed the government the amount of money to cover the expenses for officials to go to Beijing to take them back. On July 12, You Yu and Lan Hongyu went to Beijing to send Ms. Wang and another practitioner back to be detained in Shuangcheng detention center for 18 days. Corrupt official Jin (female) and Zhang extorted 1500 Yuan from Ms. Wang's family and the detention center illegally fined her 200 Yuan. Wang Hongsheng, the head of Hongcheng Village in Handian Township and Liu Yingwu, the village head also extorted 500 Yuan from Ms. Wang.
Shao Chunyan, female, 28 years old
On the morning of the 3rd of January of the lunar calendar, officials of Zhoujia Village came to Ms. Shao's home to "investigate the situation." Ms. Shao, her mother-in-law and her 7-year-old son all declared that they would continue practicing Falun Gong. In the afternoon, a group of evil people led by Bureau Director Yu Hua came to Ms. Shao's home again and illegally confiscated Dafa books and forcefully arrested Ms. Shao and her mother-in-law. In Zhoujia police station, Ms. Shao's mother-in-law said that she wanted to use the washroom but was refused by official Yu Hua. Later they were sent to a mandatory brainwashing class that was organized in Zhoujia Seniors' Home. Whenever meeting Dafa practitioners, Yu Hua cursed at them and threatened, "I will not only curse you, but also beat you. I will send you away tomorrow." There were a total of 9 Dafa practitioners detained in the brainwashing class. Some practitioners were tricked into attending this class and were forced to write a pledge to give up practicing Falun Gong. If they refused, they were not allowed to go home and were watched by public security officers round the clock.

The righteous actions of the practitioners have also widely attracted close attention from various circles in Germany. Many people are pondering the questions: What is Falun Gong? Why are so many people practicing it? And why do they risk their life to uphold their belief?
Since the true words of Falun Gong contrast sharply with the propaganda from the Chinese government, some universities and research units began research programs on Falun Gong phenomena.
At the beginning of this winter semester, a new research course, "Falun Gong," was offered by the Department of Theology at Goettingen University. This course is presently being offered two hours per week, and has attracted many students. Students in the class are required to read through Zhuan Falun and get familiar with the Falun Gong websites. At the same time, they analyze the negative propaganda materials from the Chinese government authorities. The goal of this course is to make a conclusion based on their research, as to whether Falun Gong is a religion, a philosophy, a spiritual movement, or any other theory. The host professor of this course contacted Dafa practitioners on his/her own initiative to prepare a symposium to be held in January of 2002, in order to help students better understand Falun Gong, and the real meaning of the principles given in Zhuan Falun.
Since as early as August of 1998, Falun Gong has been listed as a formal course in the course table offered in every semester by the Department of Physical Training at Goettingen University. Now, in addition, a Falun Gong research course has been offered at this university. We hope that even more people with predestinated relationships can obtain the Fa through these kinds of channels.

Today, 263 people published solemn announcements and claimed that all they have said and done and that others have written, representing them, under great pressure and forced brainwashing by the evil, that didn't conform to Dafa are completely void! They would come back to the Fa rectification and double their efforts in making up the loss they caused to Dafa. They will safeguard Dafa with determination and clarify the truth and offer salvation to people.
Police authorities in Dumeng County, Heilongjiang Province changed the term "legal appeal" to "illegal appeal, a crime."[So they can legally arrest and torture Falun Gong practitioners] Under this change they detained practitioner Cui Ruhui and Li Hongying indefinitely. After the two decided to go on a hunger strike, the lawless police used all kinds of brutal means to torture these practitioners. Mu Junling, the head of the gang, who is director of the county's "610 Office," ordered the enforcers to "use any means in dealing with (the practitioners). I'll take the responsibility should anything happen (If the practitioners die from torture)." [The "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems]
An aged university professor from Shanghai went to Tiananmen Square with a tourist group to watch the hoisting of the national flag. Because the sunlight was dazzling, he raised his right hand above his eyebrow to block out the light and suddenly, a plainclothes police walked out of the crowd and beat him without any explanation. Afterwards, the officer said the reason he beat the professor was, "that his gesture was a Falun Gong movement."
Falun Dafa Overseas
World Daily News: Over 30 human rights organizations in Los Angeles participated in the celebration of the 53rd Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Hollywood. The Gathering was held by United Nations Association Pacific-LA Chapter and Citizens Commission on Human Rights International. Falun Gong practitioners presented a report about the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in Mainland China.
Falun Gong practitioners from Hong Kong witnessed the persecution in the prisons of China: the prisons used methods like solitary confinement, guilt by association (make others suffer because of association), sleep deprivation, prolonged and arduous physical labor, depriving of basic living needs, brainwashing, intimidation, and deceit. The persecutors use all these methods to torture practitioners mentally and physically in order to force them to give up their belief.
Practitioners from Queensland, Australia participated in the celebration of 100th Anniversary of Queensland. Practitioners wore yellow shirts and jackets bearing the phrases: "China: Stop persecuting Falun Gong", "Falun Dafa is good", "Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance" in both Chinese and English. The practitioners were also holding big golden banners that read: "Falun Dafa", and "Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance" while they slowly walked in a parade, accompanied by the solemn music "Pudu".
The letter of a practitioner applying for political asylum: It has been 8 years since I left my home in China and came to Japan. My dream of returning to my home country upon finishing my studies has not yet been realized. Only because I believe in "Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance", I am not allowed into China by the government controlled by Jiang Zemin.

On November 1, the "610 Office" kidnapped me to a Brainwashing Class. In addition to my firm refusal to follow all of their commands and orders, I also insisted on practicing, and using righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil elements that were controlling them. On the morning of November 8, some fellow practitioners and I walked out of the vicious Brainwashing Class together, and went to Tiananmen Square to rectify the Fa. At several places, including under the national flag, we spoke loudly, saying, "Falun Dafa is Good!" We also went into the Tiananmen Fort to clarify the truth. We were then arrested and sent to the Miyun County Detention Center. After we went on a hunger strike for 7 days, the vicious police sent us to the railway station and set us free.
Cultivation Diary of a Belgium practitioner:
November 21: made phone calls and faxed information to news media and European council members about the western practitioners' appeal on Tiananmen Square.
November 22: the western practitioners returned from China, and we were very proud of them.
November 23: clarified the truth to a journalist at noon, and handed out newspapers and introduced Dafa to people in the afternoon.
November 24: my husband called me from China, saying that the western practitioners' appeal on Tiananmen Square had an enormous impact on Chinese people.
Thailand practitioners held an "International Psychology Exhibition on Cultivation for the World Peace" in a college. They introduced Dafa to people and clarified the truth for three consecutive days.

On December 9, 2001, Vancouver Dafa practitioners held a large-scale group practice and clarified the true facts about Falun Dafa in Chinatown . The splendid practice scene, the peaceful attitude of the practitioners, the video, posters and banners aroused many people's interest to come to look and inquire about the truth. We were pleased that many people's futures would benefit by getting rid of their misunderstanding of Dafa.
These pictures are from my recent trip to the Czech Republic. Nearly every weekend, in various cities of the Czech and Slovak Republics, the practitioners pictured clarify the truth, demonstrate Falun Gong exercises, collect signatures for SOS, and distribute literature. This particular weekend, we were in the small towns of Policka and Moravska Trebova. My friend, Vladka, a practitioner from a nearby village, organized the weekend. Her little daughter is shown in the picture, clarifying the Truth to Vietnamese children.
The towns were quite busy, but only in the morning. Some women became interested when we were doing the exercises, and for the experience, tried to exercise with us. Most of the village children came on bicycles, and asked us lots of questions. Also, several Vietnamese women stopped by. They knew about Falun Gong, and said they were too busy to practice now, but wanted to wait until they retire, when they would have more time. By noon, the public square was almost empty. It was a good time to send forth righteous thoughts once more. We closed our eyes and one of the local drunkards tried to open my fingers. As soon as we started sending forth righteous thoughts, he left. He returned later with a handful of chewing gum, and then left again.
Righteous thoughts are powerful. We ended the day in City Hall, showing part of one of Master Li's videos. After that, for the local people who came, we answered questions about Falun Gong.
From December 8 to 10, 2001, Journey of Falun Dafa photo exhibition was held for three days in Dnipropetrovs'k City, Ukraine.

We faced many difficulties at the beginning. The situation changed after our inner problems were exposed and external interference eliminated. During the three days, the practitioners from St. Petersburg helped us a lot. The exhibition was held in one of the best exhibition halls, "Scientist Hall".
Many visitors were regretful when knowing that the exhibition was held only for three days. In the exhibition hall, the Dafa music Pudu and Jishi were played, and the video on introducing Falun Dafa was played to the visitors. Some practitioners demonstrated the exercises in the hall. Some practitioners explained the photos to the visitors. Some distributed invitation letters to passers-by outside.
On December 10, 2001, the local TV station reported the exhibition in its evening news report. The two most famous newspapers of the city plan to report our photo exhibition. Every visitor was touched by the principles of Falun Dafa and moved by the greatness of the practitioners in China.
Over 100 Hong Kong Falun Gong practitioners gathered and had a peaceful demonstration on the UN International Human Rights Day on December 10, 2001. They read an open petition to legislators calling upon all levels of society to stop the Jiang Zemin regime's state terrorism in China and export to other countries, and help the Falun Gong practitioners in China.
After over two-month's preparation and under the collective effort of practitioners from Seattle and Portland, the beautiful lotus lantern float was completed and entered into the parade on the evening on December 8, 2001.
Due to rain, water filled in the lotus flower and the practitioners were busy draining the water. When the parade was near the end, several practitioners sat down and sent forth righteous thoughts. In a short while, the rain stopped and the audience gathered by the streets to watch.
Some practitioners distributed Dafa newspapers in the parade. The audience greeted us by cheering and waving hands. Some said, "Great, Falun Dafa!" "Such a beautiful lotus flower is only available in Heaven."
The audience of this parade was over 4,000. CBS News reported the parade live to 5 Northwest states. The parade is not only introducing Dafa in the Northwest but also increased the contact between practitioners in the region.
