Belated Report: High-ranking Chinese Official Rebukes Police Officers in Tiananmen Square

(Clearwsidom.net)

Around 10 am on January 1, 2001, after taking a relative who had come to Beijing to defend the Fa to the railway station, a high-ranking Chinese official said to herself, "Let me go to Tiananmen Square and see for myself what is really going on." First she wandered in the area adjacent to the Square, and noticed that there were many canvas-covered military trucks with ID numbers on them. There were a lot of police cars there too. The atmosphere was quite tense. Then she headed toward the center of the Square. When she got near the flagpole, she saw numerous police officers arresting and beating Falun Gong practitioners who were trying to unfurl banners. At this moment, two plain-clothes policemen jumped out right in front of her. One of them asked her nastily, "Do you think Falun is good or bad?" She felt very strange and responded, "Who are you? Why should I answer your question?" These two men immediately grabbed her arms, and pressed for an answer again, "Do you think Falun Gong is good or bad? Tell us!" She found it so ridiculous that she said loudly, "I have got nothing to tell you!" She managed to pull back one of her arms. "Let go of me!" she yelled. But these two men wouldn't let her go. Instead, they tried to drag her towards a police car. This official had a military background. She resisted strongly with her arms, "What do you think you are doing? Do you know who I am? If you dare to touch me, I will make you pay for it!" Upon hearing her words, these two men got nervous and let go of her.

By that time, more than a dozen police officers had gathered, and so had some onlookers. One tall officer came over to her and said, "Why did you come to Tiananmen Square after all?!" She realized at just that moment, that the other two men were plain-clothes officers. She answered slowly and clearly, "Tiananmen Square belongs to the people. Why can't I come here?" The policeman felt nervous and explained, "Please don't misunderstand me. We are trying to arrest Falun Gong." Hearing these words made this official even more furious, "Do you know what kind of people you are arresting and beating up?! Falun Gong practitioners are all good people!" With one hand on her hip, and the other pointing at the policemen, she said, "Are you still the people's policemen? You are perpetrators, bandits, scoundrels!" As more and more onlookers gathered around her, she turned around and asked them, "am I right?" People responded, "Yes! Police shouldn't beat people!" One police officer came over and said to her, "Lady, please take a stroll somewhere else, and please don't come here."
