The Record (Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada): China is in dark ages
By Jan Banks
December 26, 2001
I can only applaud the efforts of Zenon Dolnyckyl and
the 30 other members of Falun Gong from 10 other
countries, a veritable United Nations, who peacefully
demonstrated in Tiananmen Square on Nov. 22. Although
the [Jiang Zemin] government quickly and roughly slapped
them into prison before expelling them from the
country, their point was made. Freedom of worship is
enjoyed in most civilized countries of the world. How long will it be before China emerges from the dark
ages and allows its citizens this basic human right? How long will it be before China stops persecuting and
torturing its citizens for following their chosen
spiritual beliefs?
