MEMORANDUM To: Whom it May Concern Re: American Falun Gong Practitioners Illegally Detained in China To Whom it may Concern: I write to request the immediate release of Mr. Leeshai Lemish, a constituent in my district, who was, along with 30 other Americans, recently illegally detained in China for simply displaying a banner stating "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Mr. Lemish, as well as the many others that were unfairly detained, served no threat against the Chinese government and I implore you to grant their immediate release. It is unconscionable that in this day and age, a group that practices truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, can be the continuous victims of torture, illegal prosecutions, forced and unwarranted commitments to labor camps, mental hospitals, and jails. A few months ago I also expressed [concerns over] Dr. Teng Chunyan, a respected New York acupuncturist and permanent United States resident, and the hundreds of other innocent Falun Gong practitioners being illegally detained at the Masanjia labor Camp in Shenyang, China. I am admonished that the Chinese government continues such oppressive and uncivilized practices. Mr. Lemish, as well as the many others that were unfairly detained, served no threat against the Chinese government and I implore you to grant their immediate release. Respectfully, (Signature) Patricia Wiggins
