Making Phone Calls to People in China to Clarify the Truth about Falun Dafa December 24, 2001
(Clearwisdom.net) I have been making telephone calls for more than one year to clarify the
truth of Falun Dafa to people in China, especially to those who have taken part
in persecuting Dafa practitioners.
I am often moved to tears by the unyielding, selfless spirit and the mission
of Dafa practitioners in China. What I was thinking when I initially called the
evil people who persecute Dafa practitioners is that they are too evil and
should not exist in this world. Therefore, sometimes I could not calm down. I
would get irritated when the persons responded in a bad manner, and thus, I
would warn them loudly. The receivers of my calls used verbal abuse and hung up
the phone as a result. I knew that there was hatred deeply embedded in my heart
and that I had not eliminated it yet.
With tears in my eyes, I read through the article "Make the Best Use
of Time to Clarify the Truth to the Precious Chinese People" written by
the Clearwisdom Editors. It is hard to describe the feelings I had. I felt the
benevolence of Teacher, and felt pity toward those who are approaching the abyss
not knowing the truth about Falun Dafa. A feeling of benevolence arose from my
heart. The hatred was not with me anymore. I realized that the evil people who
participate in persecuting Dafa practitioners are also victims of Jiang Zemin.
They are doing bad things unknowingly.
That day, I made four phone calls and had all good responses. Two were very
vicious people whom I had called before. I made a record for the receiver of
each phone call. I felt the power of benevolence. One is the Party Committee
Secretary of a University. I called him previously and was not able to exchange
even a couple of words with him before he hung up the phone. This time, we
talked for more than twenty minutes. When he asked me why I spent so much money
to call him, I told him, "I just want you to know the truth of Falun
Gong." He did not say a word upon hearing that.
The change in my heart brought about changes in the effects of my phone
calls. Many calls lasted ten or twelve minutes. During the phone conversations,
I emphasized that the purpose of my call was to let them know the truth and to
stop them from doing bad things. I talked with a Deputy Director of the
"610" office in one city for about twenty minutes. At the end he told
me, "I understand what you said. Please be at ease. I know what I should
do. Thanks for calling me."
I would clarify the truth to whoever picked up the phone. If the person to
whom I wanted to speak was not in, I would speak to the operator. If the parents
were not at home, I would speak to their children.
We can be very flexible while clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa over the
phone. We can use different approaches with people who have different attitudes
and mindsets.
More than one practitioner has told me about how difficult it is to clarify
the truth to family members. Recently, I have called the family members of those
practitioners who were arrested or persecuted, when I had their phone numbers.
Some of those family members were prejudiced toward Dafa. A sister of a Dafa
practitioner did not understand why her younger sister went to appeal to the
higher authorities and tell the truth about Falun Dafa to people. The sister
said, "She did not consider her family members." I sincerely told her
my understanding of what her sister was doing. I emphasized that if it were not
for the persecution launched by Jiang Zemin, Dafa practitioners and their family
members would not be suffering. "It is the persecution of Jiang Zemin
against Falun Gong practitioners that has deprived your family of a peaceful
life. Your sister is sacrificing herself for the happiness of people, including
you. She is most selfless, and you should not blame her."
It is important to be persistent in clarifying the truth to the common
people. It is equally important to treat those who have enlightened along an
evil path with benevolence. We should wake them up. One day I made a call to
someone who had enlightened along an evil path. His child was the one who
answered. The child's father had gone out to disrupt other practitioners,
regardless of the fact that his wife, a practitioner, was still in jail. I had a
long talk with his child, who was quite clear-headed. Eventually, one day I got
a chance to talk with him over the phone. His behavior was bad. All he spoke
about was the evil things from his understanding and he did not listen to me. At
last, he said, "I will keep doing this as long as there is one
[practitioner] who has not been reformed." I felt pain in my heart and
could not say a word. At the end, I remembered to say word-by-word, "The Fa
Rectifies the Cosmos, the Evil is Completely Eliminated." I thought,
"He is hopeless and cannot be rescued." My heart was so heavy the
whole day. I really thought he was hopeless and did not plan to call him again.
However, today, I had a desire to talk with him. He answered the phone. I
directly told him that I was the one who had called him a couple of months ago
and would like to know if he is still practicing. He did not directly reply to
my question but we talked for about 35 minutes. He expressed that he really
wanted to read Teacher's new articles. Hence, I read Teacher's "Foretelling
the Fa's Rectification of the Human World" to him. He no longer said
evil words against Dafa. He stated again "Falun Dafa is good." I know
his change had everything to do with the practitioners around him, including his
wife. It is really hard to imagine what would have happened if it were not for
the practitioners who helped him change. However, I originally thought that he
was hopeless.
This event affected me greatly. I understand now that we should make the best
use of time and do what we should do. If the truth does not persuade people to
change their minds the first time, we should try a second and third time. We
should not give up on any lives or think that they are unsavable.
