The Chinese University of Science and Technology used to be a world renowned high-quality institution. It earned it's reputation, over the years, for the independent pursuit of knowledge and truth . Today Jiang Zemin's brutal crack down on Falun Gong has completely destroyed the free atmosphere of this distinguished institution . Those interested in seeking the truth are suppressed. Those so-called "professionals" who kow tow to Jiang Zemin have become the baton to beat good people into submission. Is this the foundation we are laying for our young people's future?

The following are examples that show how Falun Gong practitioners are illegally persecuted.

1. At around 2 A.M on January 19, 2001, continuous sounds of banging and knocking on doors and breaking glass at building #17 of the university's east staff living quarter woke everybody up. The banging noise lasted for about 2 hours. No one could not go back to sleep. What was happening? Who was it? What was the person doing? They later found out that the officials from the security department of the university and Daoxian village were ransacking people's houses. The couple that lived in the house being ransacked were Falun Gong practitioners. The woman worked at a city court, and the man worked in the students' services department. They were both laid off because they practiced Falun Dafa. When the officials of the security department and Daoxian village ransacked the house, the couple's little son was the only one at home. He told the officials his parents were not at home and did not open the door, so these people tried to break in. First they tried to break in from the balcony's iron door, but they could not open it. then they broke the glass on the kitchen door and came on in. As soon as they stepped inside, they harshly beat up the child and ransacked the house. Later on they brought the boy to the security department, interrogated him and beat him again. During the whole process, the police and the security department never showed any ID or warrantee for searching.

During the Chinese New Year holiday, the security department of the university monitored closely all Dafa practitioners and restrained them from moving around freely. The police kept following all Dafa practitioners and caused that the university's security could not be guaranteed. It was indeed very ironic that thieves broke into the university principal's home and robbed him !

2. On the afternoon of February 10, 2001, Ms. Peng from the university went to the train station to buy some tickets. The security department suspected that she would go to Beijing to appeal, so Wang Zhongshan and Tian Fugui from the Community Committee told Ms. Peng to book her tickets from the university. Ms. Peng explained that she was buying the tickets for her three friends, and that she was also to going to buy other things. Yet the school officials did not accept her explanation. They told her that Song Yuefun, the vice department head of the general affairs, was expecting to see her. Ms. Peng was then watched by three vice department directors including Song Yuefen.They then sent her directly to the security department and locked her inside. Ms. Peng calmly tried to clarify her intentions when faced with this unreasonable behavior.Then Zhang Zhenhua and Miao Guohua arrived at the security department and started interrogating Ms. Peng. They gave her hard time for no reason. Some officials from Daoxiang village were sent over and interrogated her again. Ms. Peng said she just wanted to buy some train tickets and did not have any other plans. The officials had nothing to record, so they had no choice but to release her. Then the manager of the Ms. Peng's building arrived. He was instructed by Wang Yueting to take Ms. Peng home. Wang told Ms. Peng not to go to Beijing. Ms. Peng felt bad because she merely wanted to buy train tickets but she was detained illegally for 7 hours. She questioned Wang for his motives. Wang Yueting did not like her attitude, so he reported her to Zhang Zhenghua. Zhang demanded that Wang Yueting catch up with Ms. Peng. He forcibly sent her to the security department. When Both Wang Yueting and Ren XX interrogated Ms. Peng. Ms. Peng refused to cooperate with them. Then Wang and Ren fabricated an interrogation record. They created a fake document by changing the date on the appeal form that Ms. Peng filled out the last she went to Beijing. They wrote in the present date and signed her name. Then, Zhang Zhenhua called on Miao Guohua to examine the document, and they were ready to interrogate Ms. Peng and detain her. After 12 o'clock, Wang Yueting, Ren XX and the rest of the group sent Ms. Peng to the first detention center of Hefei city. Wang Yueting filled out the papers and shamelessly bragged to people, "Who said that good people will be rewarded for merit, and bad people will be punished for malignity? I'm not afraid of payback!"

3. The ordeals of some student Dafa practitioners at the university:

Graduate student Jia Hu was forcibly returned to his former working unit because he made an appeal. Wang Dou, a student of Math Department was illegally detained for 15 days and was not able to get his degree because he made an appeal. Graduate student Zhao Gang was detained illegally for 15 days, and has been suspended from school since November 1999. Graduate student Li Guofeng was interrogated many times, and was asked to write statement of guarantee and was threatened to with suspension from school. Pang Lijia and Xue Tingxiao, also graduate students,, were suspended from school for half a yearcausing tremendous pain and distress to themselves and their family.
