1. Ma Peizhi, female, from Cuimiao Town

Ma Peizhi had been detained for 4 months in the county detention center due to appealing for Falun Dafa in Beijing in November 1999. Because she continued to study the Fa and to practice the exercises in the detention center, she was handcuffed to an iron cage and was rarely given food. In the beginning of March 2000, she was sent to the town's security team office. There, she suffered from inhuman and brutal beatings daily. The corrupt officers beat her with tools such as a wooden rod and a wrench. She was beaten so badly that her face became deformed and she could not even open her mouth to speak. Her family members seemed afraid when they saw her and could not even recognize her. Presently she is still in custody.

2. Zhang Jinfeng, female, from Cuimiao Town

Zhang Jinfeng was brutally beaten because she appealed to the local county government for the right to practice Falun Gong. The corrupt officers beat her with a metal chain from a motorcycle. Even after she became unconscious, they continued to step on her wounds, showing no remorse whatsoever. She was unconscious for an hour. It took five months for her to be able to do things on her own again.

3. Wang Shuqing, female, from Cuimiao Town

Wang Shuqing was brutally beaten on several occasions for practicing Falun Gong. In addition, on the coldest day of the winter, she was forced to take off her clothes and shoes and stand on ice for an entire night. She was forced to lie on a concrete pillar with her face pressed against the concrete surface. She was forced to stand with both legs bent at a 90 degree angle for several hours. She nearly died from all of the torture she received, but they still didn't leave her alone. With bruises and wounds covering her whole body, they tied her tightly and publicly paraded her through the streets. She was also fined 3,000 Yuan [about US$350, average monthly wage in China is about $60].

4. Wang Shuhua, female, the younger sister of Wang Shuqing

Because she appealed for Falun Dafa in Beijing, the township's security officers searched Wang Shuhua's home and confiscated all of her property, including a tractor. She suffered from brutal beatings on several occasions. She was forced to take off her clothes and shoes and stand in the snow. This inhuman treatment resulted in her getting frostbite on her foot, which in turn, caused her to lose her ability to walk. The security officers ordered her husband to keep an eye on her and to be responsible for her when she went out. Under such enormous pressure, her husband violently beat her. He cut her hand with a cooking knife and forced her to crouch down with her face against the ground in the pouring rain. He fiercely kicked her head until she lost her hearing. The security department still fined them 7,000 Yuan.

5. Liu Shuhua, female, from Cuimiao Town

Since November 1999, Liu Shuhua has suffered from brutal beatings because of practicing Falun Dafa. The police officers took her clothes off and forced her to stay outside in the cold weather for three nights. They took turns monitoring her in order to keep her from sleeping. She was not allowed to move around freely until half a month later. They tried to force her to step on and burn Master Li's pictures and Dafa books. After she refused to do so, they fiercely beat her with a wooden rod, broom, and a board. She was forced to kneel down for a long period of time, and also to raise a large stone up to the height of her waist while holding a wine bottle in her mouth at the same time. Then if she could not remain still, she would be beaten. They paraded her through the streets with a large sign [with the words slandering Falun Dafa] hanging in front of her chest.

6. Li Bin, female, from Cuimiao Town

On December 15, 2000, Li Bin went to the township's government building to appeal for the release of all Falun Dafa practitioners. She peacefully told them the truth about Falun Dafa, having no thoughts or intentions about opposing the government. As a result, she was brutally beaten by the security people. They couldn't distinguish justice from evil and continuously kicked her on the ground as if they were kicking a ball. Her face was covered with blood and her body was covered with dirt. Afraid of the truth becoming known by the public, they didn't allow her to leave the building until she cleaned off the blood and dirt.

7. & 8. Liu Shuxiang and Liu Jianxin, both female, from Cuimiao Town

Liu Shuxiang and Liu Jianxin were sisters. They used their basic and legal rights as citizens to go to Beijing in November 1999 to appeal for Falun Dafa. They were brutally beaten by the police in Beijing. Later they were sent back home and placed in the custody of the county police. On the way home, the policemen became very angry with them so they squeezed both of them into the trunk of the car. They remained in the trunk for about 600 Li [about 370 miles]. Because it was so hot and stuffy, they fainted several times. Finally, the car arrived at the county government building. More than ten people jumped onto the car before the car had even stopped completely. These people dragged the two sisters out of the trunk and grabbed a hold of their hair in order to slam their heads against the wall. The wooden rods and boards were broken due to the fierce beating. The sisters were forced to kneel down for a long period of time while holding a basin of water without moving. Such brutal torture caused severe physical damage to the two sisters.

Liu Qiusheng started to practice Falun Dafa in Beijing, in 1996 [their family had business in Beijing/translator]. After "July 20" [The date Falun Dafa was officially banned in China], Liu Qiusheng went to the State Appealing Bureau to present his own cultivation experiences in Falun Dafa and to appeal. He was sent back to his hometown and was brutally beaten by the local security officers. On October 22, [1999], he was told in Beijing by the town government that the county government would like to talk to him, but in fact he was just being tricked back to his hometown so as to be sent to the county detention center. On April 6, 2000, the county government arrested him again. In order to attempt to convert his belief in Falun Gong, they brutally beat him using their fists, feet and sticks. Liu was beaten so badly that he couldn't even be recognized. His waist was severely injured and it took 5 months for him to regain full consciousness.

Over a dozen of people in his family have benefited from practicing Falun Dafa in the past several years. They didn't spend a penny of the government's money for medical expenses and had contributed to society in different fields. Nowadays, Jiang Zemin and his criminal followers are imperious and corrupt. They are not able to distinguish good from evil, they are not able to tell the difference between right and wrong, and they regard good as bad. Liu's eldest sister was sentenced to two years in the Shijiazhuang City Labor Camp. His wife was sentenced to one year in the Daxing County Labor Camp in Beijing. One of his younger brothers was sentenced to one year in a prison in Shijiazhuang City. His sister-in-law was sentenced to one year in a prison in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. His fourth younger sister had been in the custody of the township government for 7 months. The third younger sister had been in custody on many occasions in Jing County [Hebei Province] and had suffered from inhuman torture. She was watched by the township government daily after returning home and she had no freedom at all. She was not even allowed to go to see her mother. The township government also implemented economic sanctions, such as, illegal fines. Liu Qiusheng has been illegally fined 15,000 Yuan. They didn't even spare his over 70-year-old mother. She was taken to the town security office and spent several cold nights there. She suffered greatly. She was forced to wear signs [with words slandering Falun Dafa] and was paraded through the streets. Since all the family members have been arrested and held in custody, they had to close their business in Beijing. The children had to quit school and were sent to the countryside. The one-year-old baby of his third younger brother had to be taken care of by the baby's grandmother, who lived in the countryside and was over 70-year-old. Elderly people are supposed to be cared for by younger generations and enjoy a quiet family life, but she has to help to take care of two babies.

Wu Jinlian was brought to the county security bureau because she distributed Falun Dafa materials. The section head, Wei Zhaotian, fiercely attacked her by punching her head and hitting it with a broom in order to force her to tell where she obtained the materials. She was firm with her belief in Dafa and continued to explain the truth about Dafa. She was brutally beaten to the point of losing consciousness for over an hour. Wei Zhaotian not only slandered practitioners viciously on many occasions, but also tortured practitioners using all kinds of torture instruments, which caused practitioners to become injured or disabled. He did this ruthlessly and without remorse. Following this torture, Wu Jinlian was also brutally beaten by township security officers several times and was fined 7,000 Yuan, which caused financial difficulty for her.

Wu Jinhong is the younger sister of Wu Jinlian. Because of appealing for Falun Dafa in Beijing and distributing Dafa materials, she was beaten by the county policemen, which left her disabled. Her lower jaw was dislocated, making it very difficult for her to speak and eat. This has brought much pain to her life. She was also illegally fined 10,000 Yuan.

Xi Shurong continued to practice Falun Dafa after "July 20" [The date Falun Dafa was banned in China]. Because of appealing for Falun Dafa in Beijing, she was arrested and sent to the county liaison office in Beijing. Wei Zhaotian and other local policemen came to Beijing to take her back home. Upon meeting her, Wei immediately slapped her face very violently with boots. Her face was beaten so badly that one couldn't even recognize her. Her eyes and other parts of her face were badly swollen. Her hands were cuffed to her back the entire way from Beijing to the county, which is about 190 miles. This torture caused her to lose feeling in her two arms for a long period of time. What brought her much more pain was that they ordered her husband to watch her. If she went out again, her husband would be severely punished. So her husband tried to force her to give up Falun Gong. He beat her until she fainted; he hit her in the back and chest with a shovel; he even attempted to break her legs by striking her knees with a brick. She was kicked out of their bedroom, so she slept in the grass shed. Additionally, she was not allowed to eat while she worked in the fields.

When Shi Xiaoqin went to the county government in December 1999 to tell the truth about Falun Dafa and to appeal for the right to practice Falun Dafa, the policemen fiercely beat her. They gripped her by the hair and asked her whether she still wanted to practice. She firmly answered yes. They then brutally beat her using their fists, feet and rods. They forced her to take off her clothes and shoes and stand in the cold and windy weather for an entire night. In the daytime, they tied her up tightly and paraded her through the streets with a sign [with the words slandering Falun Dafa] hanging on her neck. In May 2000, she went to Bejing to appeal for Falun Dafa. The county police literally broke down her door and confiscated all of the food and property that she owned, then fined her 3000 Yuan. Shi Xiaoqin had lost her husband and therefore was barely able to support her two children on her own. The county police didn't have any compassion for her at all, but bullied and humiliated her and her children.

Song Qingyun was arrested because she continued to practice Falun Gong. Immediately after being brought into the police station, the policemen said to her, "We know you are the key member of Falun Gong. Today we are going to punish you, the backbone person. Do you still wish to practice it?" After Song Qingyun answered "yes", they started to lash her whole body with an electrical wire. In a short period of time, cuts and bruises covered her entire body. They raved, "Lets see what will make you surrender!" On the coldest winter day, they took her clothes off and turned on the fan. They forced her to stand in front the running fan for two hours. At last they had to conclude that, "Falun Gong is marvelous. Even this wind cannot make her fall down."

Violence cannot change people's hearts; on the contrary, it strengthens practitioners' steadfast beliefs. Freedom of belief is the right of every citizen. The criterion to judge good and evil cannot be measured by money and power.
