Now, at the very moment of the so-called "best era for human rights" as claimed by the Chinese government comes new proof that the security bureaus in Hunan Province are busily arresting and maltreating innocent and non-violent Dafa students who "dared" to exercise their constitutional rights. Here are seven chilling instances of this repression.

  1. Liu Piliang, a 50 years old man, lives on Pengchang Street of Li county in Changde area. In October 1999, his family (three people) went to Beijing to appeal. They were caught and sent back to Li county and were illegally detained in a detention center. Later they were sentenced to one-year labor education . They were released last September. Because they did not give up studying the Fa, they were arrested again. Their son was forced to leave home and become homeless.

  2. Wang Xinyu, a young man in his 20th, is from Li county. He graduated from Wuhan Tongji University (but he was not assigned a job). In October 1999, the security bureau unlawfully ransacked his home, taking away the Dafa materials, books and his clothes. He was illegally detained. The officer in the security bureau forced him to promise not to go to Beijing and appeal. Because he refused to do this, he was detained for almost 6 months. After he was released, he borrowed money and managed to go to Beijing to appeal last July. Because he opened a Dafa banner in Tiananmen Square, he was brutally beaten up and sent back to Li county detention center. In order to transform him, the officer there forced him to kneel down and beat him up. He still refused to give up his belief. After two months in detention center, he was sent to a labor camp in Changsha City for one and half years.

  3. Li Yuanhong, a woman around 30 years old, worked at a toll station in Leigongta, Li county, Hunan province. She was caught in October 1999 because she planned to appeal in Beijing. When she was detained in Li county detention center, she insisted that she be allowed to study Fa and practice Falun Gong. The officer handcuffed and chained her for almost one month. She was detained for 5 months until she went on a hunger strike. The secretary of politics and the law office tried to persuade her, saying that as long as she gave up the practice, she could go back to work. She replied: "I can give up anything but the Fa." Her husband divorced her because of this. She then lived with her mother. (Her mother is also a practitioner and has little income). The officer asked: " Are you sorry now that you lost everything?" She said: " I do not regret it as long as I have the Fa". Last July, she walked to Beijing with only 20 Yuan in hand. She begged along the way. On her way to Beijing, she saw a truck going north to ship coal. The kind-hearted driver gave her a ride for some distance. It was very hot and she couldn't find relief anywhere. After she took off from that truck, it took her another 5 days to arrive at Beijing. She did not have enough food during the trip and looked quite weak. She was so exhausted when she was caught in Tiananmen square that she could not talk. The officer from Li county security bureau recognized her and brought her back to Li county detention center and jailed her there for almost one month. In October, she went to appeal once again and was sentenced to labor education for one and half years. She is now at Baimalong in Zhuzhou City.

  4. Ye Xianzhen, a woman around 30, worked at Pengchang street committee office. After appealing in Beijing in October 1999, she was detained for more than 40 days. Last July, she went to Tiananmen Square to protect the Fa and was beaten up by the security officers until she passed out. She was sent to the emergency room. After two days' stay in hospital, she woke up and escaped. She managed to come home with the help of some kind-hearted people. She was arrested when she was handing out Dafa materials in November. In the detention center, she went on a hunger strike until she became very weak and her family had to carry her with a stretcher. She recovered after two days. Soon after she was sentenced to labor education for one and half years. Now she is detained at Baimalong in Zhuzhou City.

  5. Peng Shuzhen is a woman around 30 years old who lives in Chengguan town, Li county. In October 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal and stayed outside of her home for 3 months. When she came home later, she was caught and detained for more than one month. Last April, she was caught on her way to Beijing and was detained for 15 days. In July, she once again went to Beijing and again was caught on the way. She was sentenced to labor education for one and half years. Now she is detained at Baimalong in Zhuzhou city.

  6. Chen Kequn, female, is around 50 years old. She is from Leigongta and has not received any formal education. She was detained for more than 40 days after she appealed in Beijing in October 1999. Last year she was caught when she was distributing Dafa materials and she was sentenced to labor education for one and half years.

  7. Zhou Meizhang, a 34 years old woman, is from Wulin area of Changde city. At 5:00 PM on October 1st of last year, the local security office took her away when she was cooking at home. She was deceived to think that they only wanted to ask her some questions. Later her husband found out that she was detained at the detention center. He asked them when she was going to be released. They replied that she was going to be sentenced. This incident made practitioners in the Changde area worried and angry. On October 22nd, there were more than 20 practitioners who went to Beijing to appeal. They were later caught and sent back to Changde security bureau. They were beaten up there and more than 10 of them were sentenced to labor education for up to one and half years. Zhou Meizhang was released later.

Zeng Linqing, (male, 52 years old) was the secretary of politics and law committee. He was in charge of the Falun Gong issue. One day at around 9:00 AM when he just arrived at the work place, his mistress called him. He went out right away and got to his mistress' place. Her husband (Zeng's driver) went back and caught them. The driver killed Zeng at the scene.
