[Minghui Net] Falun Gong practitioners in Belgium held a press conference on the 6th of April at the International Press Center in Brussels, with reporters from several major media in attendance. Also present were parliament members of the European Union and representatives from Human Rights Watch.
The Belgian Falun Gong practitioners say that the press conference was intended to help the media know more about Falun Gong and the situation in China, to suffocate the evil by exposing the vicious persecution, to wake up the conscience of the public, and to introduce the principles of Falun Gong, "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance."
The conference started with Falun Gong practitioners reading to the media a press statement calling for urgent help from governments of all countries and from all kind-hearted people to stop this inhuman and unconstitutional persecution, which severely violates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Falun Gong practitioners also gave a brief account of the current situation of the persecution, followed by two personal experiences of practitioners who were tortured in Chinese jails. These personal testimonials show how Jiang Zemin's government has been distorting the Chinese constitution and manipulating legislation and law enforcement, all for his personal agenda.
Also shown in the press conference were video clips of Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted in China and the Analysis of the Self-immolation Case at Tiananmen Square. During the question and answer session, the media learned about the strong support Falun Gong has received from the United States, Canada, Australia, and Belgium.
Practitioners emphasized the severity of the persecution in China and asked for help from the media to tell the true story to the public, so as to expose the viciousness and restore the reputation of Falun Dafa.
After the formal session, reporters interviewed practitioners individually.
