[Mainland China] The Power of a Righteous Mind

On April 30, practitioners in an urban area collectively distributed a large quantity of literature that clarifies the truth and hung banners and wall scrolls. On May 1, many people saw these posted signs and the effects were quite good. Yet, at the same time, the unlawful thugs in the district were enraged. They began illegally arresting Falun Dafa practitioners. A female practitioner was regarded as the leader of this truth clarifying action. In order to arrest her, the police illegally raided her house. Not being home at the time and having locked her house, the thugs had to fetch ladders to climb over the wall. When people nearby heard news of the break in, they came at once to protest and indignantly denounce the intruders for their attempt to illegally enter a private residence in broad daylight. Those thugs had nothing to say in reply and left in a huff. A few days later, the practitioner was tracked down at another practitioner's home and illegally arrested. They detained her in a cell especially prepared for persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners in the district. Under these circumstances, with a clear, righteous mind, she thought, "I cannot be detained and persecuted by these malicious people . I still need to clarify the truth to ordinary people." Thus, she took the chance and with both hands gave the two iron balusters on the window a hard pull. The balusters bent instantly, forming a big gap; two practitioners jumped out of that horrible place to once again join the torrent of Fa rectification.

[Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province] Practitioners Clarify the Truth at a Railway Station

Fearing that Falun Dafa practitioners would go to Beijing, the lawless officials in Jixi City of Heilongjiang Province blockaded the railway station. Meanwhile, related local departments illegally extorted money from Falun Dafa practitioners. In resistance to this oppression, practitioners, young and old, male and female, gathered at the Jixi Railway Station where there is a large volume of passengers and a high-density population. Opening banners and shouting "Falun Dafa is good," "Falun Dafa is a righteous Fa," practitioners validate Falun Dafa, clarify the truth effectively, and resist the persecution. Everyday, Jixi residents and passengers can witness this heroic episode where practitioners safeguarded Falun Dafa at the railway station. Many kindhearted people praise them privately.

[Guangdong Province] Musician Is Suddenly Arrested

Falun Dafa practitioner Zhang Liang is an editor for the "Linnan Music" magazine which is published by the Guangdong branch of the Chinese Musician Association. She is the daughter of the famous Chinese musician Zhang Lichang (deceased) and is 46 years old. On April 19, 2001, it was heard that she had been suddenly and illegally arrested for insisting to practice Falun Dafa. It is said that she was sent to jail. The detention site may be in Conghua, Guangzhou. The details of her arrest and whereabouts are unknown. Zhang Liang has practiced Dafa since August 1995. She is known widely to be a nice person, righteous and kind hearted, never caring for gain or fame. She is the backbone in the work unit and her musical gifts and noble personality have always been respected in the musical field.

[Changchun City, Jilin Province] Thugs in Datun Town Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners

There are over 400 Falun Gong practitioners in Datun Town. Since the Spring Festival of 2001, the lawbreaking officials in the local government, and police substation of Datun Town have employed many people to track down and arrest Falun Dafa practitioners. The practitioners are then forcibly sent to illegal "transformation classes" to be detained indefinitely. At present, Dafa practitioners Shi Shujie, Zhang Xiaoming, Tao Ye, and Yuan Shukun have been illegally detained for months in the "transformation class" in the Agricultural School of Xinlongshan Town, Changchun City. Li Guiling, a female practitioner from Hanjiujuzi Village, was tortured until she became a vegetable while being detained in Heizuizi Female Labor Camp in Changchun City. The thugs are still harassing Falun Dafa practitioners; they arrest any Falun Dafa practitioners they find, and they illegally break into practitioners' homes.

[Weifang City, Shangdong Province] Lawbreaking Police's Crimes in Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners

Around 4:30 pm on April 23, 2001, Falun Dafa practitioner Yin Jirong (female), 47 years old, was intercepted by over a dozen policemen from Dayu Police Substation of Weifang City led by her working unit's boss. She was intercepted near her home (around the No. 960 Hospital in Weifang City). One vicious policeman kicked her down from her bicycle. Yin Jirong, stood up straight and held onto her bicycle. She refused to cooperate with their illegal actions. All the policemen then ganged up and brutally beat her under the instigation of her working unit's boss. This incident occurred in front of many passers-by. Yin Jirong was beaten until she was unconscious and then she was stuffed into the police car. According to onlookers, there were many bruises and cuts on Yin Jirong's arms and face. While Yin Jirong was still unconscious, the vicious policemen sent her to the illegal "transformation class" in the Industrial Cadres' College in Kuiwen District. However, due to her serious wounds, she lay unconscious for a whole day. The two female staff members who were guarding her were extremely shocked by the extent of her injuries.

[Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Police Torture Falun Dafa Practitioners Zhu Hong and Liu Juhua for Filing a Law Suit against Jiang Zemin

In December 2000, 99 Falun Dafa practitioners in the No. 4 brigade of Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp jointly filed a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin for his illegal persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners. Practitioners Zhu Hong (female) and Liu Juhua (female) were taken away for submitting the indictment, and later were detained in No. 2 Detention Center of Shijiazhuang City. Xinhua District Court of Shijiazhuang City is in charge of trying the case. On January 27, 2001, Falun Dafa practitioners Liu Juhua and six other fellow practitioners (Deng Ren, Ma Hongmei, Chen Aijun, Su Zhengxia, Yang Janmei, Han Furong) once again jointly filed a suit against Jiang Zemin. Police brutally tortured all of them. It is heard that Falun Dafa practitioner Liu Juhua was just released from a special small cell on March 15, 2001, and Zhu Hong is still being detained in a special small cell.

Biographical notes of Zhu Hong:

Zhu Hong, female, 33 years old, owned a small business. She graduated from an art school in Shijiazhuang City and painted with oil paints. On January 6, 2001, she was illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor re-education for having gone to Beijing 6 times in 1999 to make legal appeals. She was detained in the No. 4 brigade of Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp. The dates that Zhu Hong went to Beijing to appeal were July 1, July 20, October 9, October 28, November 4, and December 2. Zhu Hong's home address is Apartment 3-402, the residential building of the Provincial Installation Company (it only has one residential building), 27 Huaibei Road, Shijiazhuang City. Her home telephone number is 86-311-6016070. Her mother's home address is Apartment 4-402, Building 2, 11 Minwangli, Yongtai Street, Zhonghua North Avenue. Her mother is Zhao Ying. Her mother's telephone number is 86-311-7814335.

Biographical notes of Liu Juhua:

Liu Juhua, female, over 50 years old, is from Tangshan City, Hebei Province. On November 15, 1999, she was transferred from Tangshan Kaiping Forced Labor Camp to the No. 4 brigade of Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp.

[Bayan County, Heilongjiang Province] Account of Illegal Persecution of Falun Dafa Practitioners

Falun Dafa practitioner Dou Haitao (male) went to the Beijing Appeals Office to appeal legally on September 13, 1999, but was escorted to the Agency Office of Heilongjiang Province in Beijing. On September 18, 1999, Dou was sent to No. 1 Detention Center of Bayan County and was illegally detained for 41 days. Police illegally extorted a bail of 2,000 Yuan RMB (about US $242) from Dou and kept the money. The No. 3 Detention Center requested 300 Yuan for covering travel expenses from Harbin City to Bayan County. Dou's working unit, Longquan Grain Store of Bayan County requested 3,800 Yuan from him for covering the expense of escorting him back from Beijing and the guard fee imposed by the Agency Office in Beijing (deducted from his salary). The No. 1 Detention center collected 400 Yuan for meals. He also had to pay meal expenses of 40 Yuan per day for his stay at the Agency Office in Beijing. The total charges are over 6,000 Yuan.

Falun Dafa practitioner Cheng Guilan (female), 58 years old, is a retired teacher from Yuxin Primary School of Bayan County. She was formerly the Falun Dafa Assistant of Bayan County. On June 19, 2000, over 60 people went to Bayan County Government to request the release of three Falun Dafa practitioners who have been detained past the time of their sentence. Cheng Guilan, Bai Jinchang, Gao Fuzhi, and Liu Zhipong were taken away and detained in a detention center for over 3 months. Among them, Gao Fuzhi was sentenced to 1 year of forced labor. Cheng Guilan went on a hunger strike and was force-fed one time. On the eighth day of the hunger strike, she was forcibly given an infusion of the so-called "liquid bread." Her husband was in a late stages of cancer. She asked many times to be allowed to go home to take care of her husband, but authorities paid no attention to her request. In September she was released after her family submitted a bail of 2,000 Yuan and she agreed temporarily not to appeal. Her husband passed away shortly after. Before New Year's Day 2001, she changed her mind and went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested in Changchun (nothing is known at this time about what torture she has received). She was escorted back and has been imprisoned for more than 5 months since she was arrested. (Other Dafa practitioners will be described later.)

[Pingliang City, Gansu Province] Nature Doesn't Tolerate Slandering Falun Dafa

Several days ago, the People's Theatre in Ping Liang City played a film slandering Dafa. The very next night the theater caught fire. The fire was so serious that only some iron frames and several walls were left standing. So far no repairs have been made. The ordinary people in the area said, "This is Falun Gong showing divine power."

In mid January 2001, some officials in Pingliang City forced local Dafa practitioners to attend an illegal "transformation class." They got practitioners to leave their homes by deceiving them with the excuse of "having a talk with them." Then they shoved them into police cars and sent them to the Qilidian Drug Rehabilitation Center. Because some practitioners didn't cooperate with these illegal activities, they were handcuffed to the radiator pipes, tortured the whole night and sent back to the drug rehabilitation center. The officials had originally planned to "transform" 50~60 people, but only around 20 people were actually arrested. Many practitioners received a warning in time for them to leave home. The oldest person arrested was 61. The youngest was only 3 months. What "crime" could a 3-month-old baby have committed?

At the illegal "transformation class," Dafa practitioners were treated like criminals. All of the male practitioners had their hair shaved. In order to leave the "class," a person had to go through eight locked iron-gates. Each person was illegally charged 15 Yuan RMB everyday for meals that really only cost less than 2 Yuan RMB. Each person was also forced to pay a 1,000-Yuan fine. At the illegal "transformation class," if anyone refused to write repentance materials and sign a guarantee letter, he would not be released.

Dafa practitioners who were illegally sent to the labor camp include Yang Jialin, Lu Baoliang, Yun Fulong, Zhang Furong and Ren Liqin.

[Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] A New Practitioner Is Illegally Arrested for Distributing Truth-clarifying Materials

A new practitioner, Han, female, 28 years old, obtained Dafa less than one month ago. The Security Section of Lanzhou Electric Machinery Plant illegally arrested her in early March when she was distributing literature to validate Dafa and clarify the truth. She has still not been released. Lanzhou Electric Machinery Plant illegally sent two Dafa practitioner employees to a labor camp, and sent another to Hanjiahe Drug Rehabilitation Center for illegal detention.

Wu Xiaojing, a Dafa practitioner from Sichuan Province, was tortured in her hometown and left destitute and homeless. She was forced to wander about in Lanzhou City (as reported on Minghui Net previously). She was arrested in Lanzhou in mid March. Her whereabouts are currently unknown. Rumor has it that the police from her hometown collaborated with the police in Lanzhou in order to catch her.

Old Yu, a Dafa practitioner from Sichuan Province, was tortured in his hometown and was forced to wander destitute in Lanzhou also. In order to arrest Yu, the police have taken his 17-year-old son into custody as a hostage in the Qilihe Police Sub-Bureau of Lanzhou. He has been there for several months and he is not even a practitioner!

[Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] A Falun Dafa Practitioner from the National Economy and Trade Department Is Arrested

According to news from Mainland China, plainclothes police arrested Dafa practitioner, Zhang Yijie, from the National Economy and Trade Department in mid March when she was shopping in Guangzhou. It was reported that currently, she is being detained illegally in Dongshan District Detention Center of Guangzhou (Tianpingjia).

[Beijing] Falun Dafa Practitioners Are Sent to "Transformation Class" by Force

At about 10:00 pm on May 9, 2001, the director of Zhongguancun 610 office, Ren Zhongchao led a raid by 10 people on Dafa practitioner Huo Zhifang's home. They took her away by force and sent her to the illegal "transformation class" held by the Beijing government. The criminal, Ren Zhongchao, said, "Go appeal wherever you want. I don't believe 'evil will receive evil retribution'. Let's just see how you deal with me."
