Falun Dafa, also called Falun Gong, was introduced in China in 1992. Since then, tens of millions of people from more than 40 countries have benefited from this practice and purified their souls.

In July 1999, Jiang Zemin's regime started a nationwide crackdown against Falun Gong with groundless accusations. Practitioners from all over the country, abiding by the universal principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, have been demonstrating to people that Falun Dafa is the righteous way -- with their own conduct and lives.

During the escalated persecution of Falun Gong, practitioners have no selfish thoughts. From the bottom of their hearts, they hope their fellow countrymen will be able to distinguish the good from the evil and will thereby have bright futures. During these two years, tens of thousands of kindhearted Falun Gong practitioners have gone to appeal peacefully to the government -- a basic right guaranteed by the Chinese Constitution. Their great compassion and forbearance have shown to the world the truth and the nobility of Falun Dafa.

In this bloody persecution, many practitioners have been fired from work, expelled from schools, and forced to leave their homeland; families were torn apart. At least 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners were forced into mental hospitals. Many have been brutally beaten. Some become disabled as a result of torture. At least 217 practitioners are known to have died, among which are a young mother and her 8-month-old baby. What kind of a crime could an 8-month-old baby have committed? What kind of "human" can be so vicious as to kill a baby? Can they be called "human beings"? Please think about it, under these circumstances, can it still be said that "Now is the best period of time in Chinese history on human rights?"

However, Falun Gong has received more than 600 proclamations and awards overseas from the United States, Canada, Australia, and other countries. This is in sharp contrast with the situation in China. After Jiang's regime started the crackdown, many foreign governments condemned China for violating the Chinese Constitution and international human rights covenants. The European Parliament publicly condemned China for suppressing freedom of speech and freedom of belief of Falun Gong practitioners. Amnesty International and other international organizations have also condemned China for its persecution.

We appeal to the Chinese government to restore the reputation of Mr. Li Hongzhi and Falun Gong. We demand immediate release of all jailed Falun Gong practitioners, including five overseas residents: Zhao Ming from Ireland, Dr. Teng Chunyan from the United States, Chu O-Ming from Hong Kong, Zhu Ying from Canada, and Dr. Hu Guoping from Japan.

We hope people of conscience will awaken to what is right and what is wrong. The Chinese have a saying: "The evil will not be able to suppress the righteous." The truth will be revealed to the world in the near future. Dark clouds can never block the Sun.
