According to Asian Wall Street Journal (June 6, 2001), the Society of Publishers in Asia has awarded first prize for excellence in reporting to The Asian Wall Street Journal for its series of articles, "A Death in China: The Politics of Suppression," by Pulitzer Prize winner Ian Johnson.

SOPA was founded in 1982 and works to establish standards and guidelines for publishers relating to issues such as quality control, professional development, circulation, advertising and new media.
