Practitioner Xin Mingru Suffers Physical and Mental Torture

Ms. Xin Mingru is an employee of a real estate company in Hengshui City, Hebei Province. On December 21, 2001, she paid a business visit to practitioner Guo Zhijiang. There happened to be some policemen at Guo's place and they asked whether Xin practiced Falun Gong. She said, "Yes." The police then sent her to Hengshui First Detention Center for no reason.

Now Xin has been detained for almost five months. She has written many letters to the authorities to declare her innocence and report her illegally extended detention. However, nobody looked into her case. In the detention center, she and other practitioners are forced to work strenuously everyday. To protest such a gratuitous persecution and call for freedom, she went on a hunger strike during the Spring Festival (translater's note: around February) this year. Since the afternoon of May 4, Xin also refused to do forced labor and other assigned duties. She was cuffed to a window with two arms extended in a straight line for nearly two hours. On May 7, she was cuffed once again to the window for the whole morning until 11:30 a.m.

On May 8, the police tried to cuff other practitioners, but the practitioners all protested against such cruel treatment. All the guards, led by Officer Si came to cell No. 3 and started beating anyone who dared to say a word. Xin Mingru would not give in, so she received the worst beating. Li Xiangshuang hit her head and face many times. Officer Si hit her head and neck with his hand. Her face was covered with dark bruises from the beating. Some guards used their fists and some used their feet on practitioners. There were also guards with a conscience who did not join in the beating. All the practitioners were tied up to the beds, cuffed and shackled. Some of them were repeatedly beaten and some were sent to labor camps. In the end, the police handcuffed Xin Mingru behind her back, and left the handcuffs on for 6 days. She endured tremendous pain. On May 18, she was taken to the hospital. A person in good health was detained for no reason for five months and tormented to such a condition. The vicious people did not restrain themselves. Since May 18, they had cuffed practitioners Feng, Cai and Yuan for 10 days.
