Falun Dafa Practitioner Zhang Yulan Tortured to Death at Wanjia Labor Camp in Harbin City

Falun Dafa practitioner Zhang Yulan, a 55-year-old woman, was the former Falun Gong Assistant at the Tiexicun Station practice site in Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province. After going to Beijing to appeal for the third time, in October 1999, she was sent to Wanjia Labor Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. She had been illegally held there for over two years, during which time she always maintained her steadfast determination and continued to practice Falun Dafa.

In mid-June 2001, Wanjia Labor Camp started a new round of extremely barbarous tortures against the numerous, determined Falun Dafa practitioners. Yet the labor camp still failed to have any effect on their strongly held beliefs. So far, quite a number of practitioners have been tortured to death, and the lives of others are in imminent danger.

Among them, Zhang Yulan has lost her life in this round of persecution, for her perseverance in practicing Falun Dafa. The labor camp had intended to cover up this tragedy but, due to the large number of death cases, had no choice but to notify the various family members and police stations involved. On June 20, Zhang Yulan's family hurried to Harbin City, but they were not allowed to see her body. It was not until the cremation day, on June 23, that they were allowed to pay Zhang Yulan their final visit. It is learned that the family members of other practitioners who were also tortured to death are now on their way to the labor camp from various parts of the province. We hereby appeal again to Falun Dafa practitioners to actively assist practitioners who are being illegally held in detention centers, labor camps, and prisons to step forward with honor and dignity.
