[Minghui Net] On December 22, 2000, the Jilin Labor Camp held a meeting giving out awards and punishment. In the meeting, when some people slandered and swore at Master Li and Falun Dafa, practitioners Zhao Guoxing and Wu Longbo stepped forward to stop their swearing. These two practitioners were immediately forced to leave the meeting. Zhao's face was slapped several times. To protest against the persecution, Zhao hit the heating plates with his head causing several cuts and bleeding on his head. Several other practitioners also tried to stop the swearing, but they were physically restrained by the officers of the labor camp until the end of the meeting. In the meeting, practitioners' sentences were extended for an additional 6 months. Several practitioners did not agree with this unreasonable extension of their original terms and tried to talk to the officers. However, no one paid any attention to them, so 18 of the practitioners decided to go on a hunger strike to protest against the extension of their terms. At last, the officers talked to us and we asked to see the chief officer and upper officials. The chief officer said, "I won't let your voice be heard, so don't even think about seeing higher officials." We decided to continue our hunger strike because there was no other way to get our problem resolved. The officers then started to beat practitioners on the hunger strike and several officers together used electric batons to beat one practitioner. Practitioner Jiang Yihong's face was severely injured due to the beating and practitioner Xu Guijun's face was beaten so severely that it did not recover for over a month.

After the beating, Wu Longbo and other practitioners started to eat, but the chief officer of the education section Liu Xun and the chief officer of administration section Zhao Wancai asked Wu Longbo to go to the guardroom while he was having dinner. They cuffed him with a made-up excuse that Wu was disturbing the meeting and continued so cruelly beating his face and head for over 20 minutes so that Wu's face was deformed, his mouth was swollen, and he started to show some signs of mental distress. He was sent to a mental hospital four days later. During the four days' stay in the mental hospital, he also received inhumane treatments. After he was sent back to the labor camp, he kept silent and did not recognize others for quite a while. Later, he gradually recovered with other practitioners' help.

About half a month before this, after we practiced the Falun Gong exercises together, Captain Nan did a search on everyone and found that Zhao Guoxing had Dafa articles. Zhao Guoxing and several practitioners started a hunger strike after his request to get the Dafa articles back was turned down. Later, the guards also found Dafa articles on Li Wenjun. Li refused to give the Dafa articles to them, so they cuffed him. Upon seeing this, other practitioners stepped forward to appeal to the captain for resolution, but the officers used electric batons to beat them. Captain Yu beat Practitioner Liu Hongwei's chest with fists and electric batons so badly that Liu could not speak loudly and sometimes coughed over the following 20 days. In order to request the right to practice the Falun Gong exercises and to be acquitted of any charge, Xu Weidong went on a hunger strike. But he was force-fed, causing him to faint. He was saved after the hospital's emergency rescue. He still kept coughing due to the damage to his lungs.

When the education team was established on March 7, practitioners Pan Zhaowen and Zhang Fengshan spoke with the captain. Pan was electrically shocked and sent to a small cell because his sitting position did not meet their requirement (they did not allow him to sit in lotus position). Zhang Fengshan went to the captain to ask for the book Zhuan Falun and was also sent into a small cell. When other practitioners knew about these cases, they started a hunger strike as a group. Later on, Pan and Zhang were sent back. The corners of Pan's eyes were injured so badly that his eyes still had not recovered when he was sent to another labor camp 20 days later.

The education team has three sub-teams. Sub-team #1 has an entry class and a "reform class." Sub-team #2 has two strictly managed classes. Sub-team #3 has two regularly organized classes. The officers had developed a plan to deal with practitioners who were determined in the cultivation of Falun Dafa.

On the night of March 12, groups of practitioners in all three sub-teams started to practice Falun Gong exercises together. However, the officers beat some of them. So practitioners decided to go on a hunger strike as a group to protest the officers' brutal violence. Practitioners also asked to appeal to higher officers for justice, but no one responded to their request. In order to suppress Dafa practitioners, the education team lied to higher officers that "Falun Gong practitioners attempted to have a riot." Therefore, the team officers started to ruthlessly beat practitioners with the support from higher officers. More than twenty officers used electric batons and spiked batons to beat practitioners in each sub-team. The officers also ordered two female doctors to wait nearby in case emergency rescue was required. Their policy was: it is alright to beat practitioners as long as they remain alive.

Many practitioners were severely beaten. When Niu Junhui was beaten, he always kept the Jieyin (conjoined hands) and his legs in lotus position until they injured his legs and sent him to the hospital. When he recovered, he walked out of the hospital. About half a dozen officers stripped off the clothes of Li Qiang, Fu Hongwei, and Hou Zhanhai, and then used electric batons and spiked batons to beat them. Several officers even used their boots to tramp on Li Qiang's face. They would not stop the beating even when they felt exhausted. Only after doctors stepped forward to intervene did they stop. After the beating, Hou Zhanhai vomited green liquid and Fu Hongwei hit his head against the wall to protest the cruel persecution. However, the officers put them into small cells. The health of these practitioners gradually recovered after more than ten days. Twenty days later, 45 determined practitioners were sent to other even more vicious and evil places like Jiutai, Liaoyuan and Tonghua for further persecution.

Afterwards, the officers treated us even more cruelly. They did not allow practitioners to sleep and broadcast from daytime to midnight while having us seated close to each other on a narrow bench from 5AM to 12AM (midnight). No one could move at all even if you wanted to. The means to persecute practitioners who cannot be "reformed" were even more ruthless.

There was a saying on the wall of the jail: "Relaxingly and comfortably handle the issue of reform, the officers and the practitioners get along well like a family." In fact, however, the officers adopted malicious means to forcibly "reform" practitioners by "using electric batons and spiked batons to treat practitioners and to see if practitioners could be 'reformed' or not."

I am Dafa practitioner from Jilin City, Jilin Province. While I was detained in the labor camp in July 2000, because I firmly kept practicing Falun Dafa, I received inhumane treatment and persecution. Captain Yu promised the prisoners a three month reduction in their sentence terms if any prisoner could "reform" a Dafa practitioner. Starting from that day, criminal Sun began to persecute me and seven other practitioners. Sometimes I was beaten up as many as eight times a day. The prisoners punched my face with their fists, used cigarette butts to burn my arms, used a sharp fork to stab my knees, and used a chair to hit my shoulders for about a month. Other practitioners also received different degrees of abuse each day. Two days before being sent to the education team, the prisoners completely lost their humanity and wildly persecuted Dafa practitioners even more severely. The prisoners used the sole of a shoe to slap each practitioner's face even when we brought back meals for them. Dafa practitioner Wu Dexiu's face was so seriously swollen that his eyes were swollen shut. Many prisoners claimed: the City Jail Bureau decided to allow five death cases in the education team and some vicious prisoners would be sent to the education team to torture the practitioners, and prisoner Sun is one of them. The jail department also decided to give these prisoners the following torture instruments: electric batons, spiked batons, cuffs, foot shackles, and iron cages. When I was packing in my room next day, the leader of City Jail Bureau met Dafa practitioner Xu Baiyi, and we then knew the higher officers did not approve the request of the labor camp to equip prisoners with torture instruments. This was my personal experience in the labor camp.
