[Huhan City, Hubei Province] Disclosing the Evil Deeds at the Qingling Detention Center

I am not a Falun Dafa practitioner. In March 2001, I was detained in the Detention Center of Huhan City, Hubei Province for fighting and causing injury to others. I was savagely beaten and mistreated by jail guards and the head inmate [inmate picked by the police to be in charge of the cell]. At this time I would like to take advantage of your website to completely disclose the darkness and cruelty in the detention centers of China.

In the Qingling Detention Center of Huhan City, Hubei Province, each jail guard is in charge of four cells. In every cell there is a head inmate who is handpicked by the jail guard. Instigated by the jail guards, the head inmates beat and insult other inmates in all imaginable ways and extort money from them. The jail guards choose the cruelest inmates who will beat others ruthlessly. They also give the head inmates secret instructions verbally: every week each cell has to hand over more than 500 Yuan [Yuan, Chinese dollar, the average monthly income in urban areas is about 500 Yuan] to the jail guards. As long as they don't beat the prisoners to death, they can beat them as cruelly as they can. The general idea is that if the inmates were not beaten, they might regard the jail as a comfortable place and forget to ask for money from their families. So the head inmates beat and insult the other inmates in the cell in every way they can imagine and force them to ask for money from their families. For a trivial offense, such as uttering just one word more than the head inmate wants to hear, an inmate could be beaten as hard as the head inmate wants. If a head inmate cannot collect the 500 Yuan, the jail guards regard him as useless and not vicious enough so they will pick another inmate who is more ruthless to be the head inmate.

If an inmate does not want to be beaten, he has to give the jail guard from 2,000 to 5,000 Yuan as a protection fee. Then the guard will assign him to be an assistant to the head inmate and tell the head inmate not to beat him. Less than 10% of the money the inmates get from their families is used on themselves. When the inmates are released, no money will be returned. The guards often take the head inmates who collect enough money out to eat. Whoever dares to disobey the head inmate, the guard will have him handcuffed and order other inmates to beat him. This makes the head inmate even more cruel and malicious.

Since the government started its "punish with severity" campaign in April 2001, the detention center has been totally filled with new inmates, most of them Falun Dafa practitioners. These inmates were usually beaten relentlessly by the head inmates once they were in custody. The way the head inmates beat the practitioners was so appalling that it was clear they had totally lost all human conscience and it was on the instructions of the jail guards. Within a few days, several practitioners were spitting blood due to internal wounds and crawling on the floor. Several practitioners had to be carried out on stretchers. The jail was so dark that there was no humanity left. Several practitioners were beaten so severely that they could not even stand up. And because they remained faithful to their belief and unyielding to the evil forces, they were sent to labor camps. Had I not seen all this with my own eyes and experienced it myself, I absolutely would not believe this could happen in the jail that China claims to "treat the inmates as childen." It is, after all, a jail during the so-called "best human rights period of China's history."

[Jilin Province] Brutal Persecution of Falun Dafa Practitioners in Jilin Labor Camp

I am a Falun Dafa practitioner in Jilin Province. In July 2000, I was transferred from Team Four to Team Three of the labor camp, and there I received inhumane torture because I am firm in my belief of Falun Dafa. Yu, the head of Group Two in Team Three, once stated that whoever "transformed" a Dafa practitioner would receive a three-month reduction in the term of his sentence. Since then, inmates Sun, Xiaoming, and Linzi started to abuse Falun Dafa practitioners including Xu Guijun, Zhang Jun, Zhang Fengshan, Fu Chunsheng, Lv Tianyue, Wu Xiude, Hou Yuji, and myself. Every day I was beaten four or five times, sometimes even seven or eight times. They punched my face, burned my arms with cigarettes, stabbed my knees with sharpened forks, and beat on my shoulders with wooden stools. This lasted for more than a month. Other practitioners were mistreated to various degrees. Two days before we were to return to the education team, these savage thugs lost all trace of their humanity and intensified the torture of practitioners. Even when we brought back lunch for them, they would slap our faces about 30 times with the soles of shoes. As a result, practitioner Wu Xiude's face was so swollen that his eyes were completely shut. Many inmates claimed that this time the labor camp would really teach us a lesson and we were assigned with five prisoners who had been sentenced to death. The most vicious persons were selected and transferred to our team, including inmate Sun. There were also instruments of torture there: electric batons, wolf-teeth clubs, handcuffs, shackles, and iron cages. The next day, when I was cleaning the room, the head of the Labor-Education Bureau interviewed practitioner Xu Baiyi, and I learned from their conversation that the labor camp leaders had applied for those instruments of torture but their request had not been approved by the authorities. This is what I experienced in person in the labor camp.

[Shulan city, Jinlin Province] Persecution of Dafa Practitioners in Shulan

Xu Zhongshan (male), of Bijia village, Qingsong Town, who worked in the township, was arrested and sent to Shulan detention center for no legal reason. He has been detained for more than five months and has still not been released.

Bi Yanmei (female) and Li Yulan (female) of Xinkai village, Qingsong Town, were arrested by the township authorities after they went to Beijing to appeal. They were fined 3000 Yuan. They were told that if they refused to pay they would be sent to a labor camp for two years.

Fan Yuqin (female), Ma Zhizhen (female), Qu Cheng, Qu Xianpeng, and Zhu Junqin (female) of Xinkai village, Qingsong Town, were fined 3,000 Yuan each because they went to Beijing to appeal. All except Zhu Junqin were unlawfully sent to a labor camp for two years.

Zhang Yingju, Xiang Junchun, Zhang Wenping, Li Hui, and Li Deming of Sidi village, Qingsong Town, were fined 3,000 Yuan each because they went to Beijing to appeal. They were all unlawfully sent to a labor camp for two years.

Zhang Wenyue and Chen Yuhuan (female), of Sidi village, Qingsong Town, were fined 3,000 Yuan each because they went to Beijing to appeal. They were detained for 15 days.

Chen Yuxian (female) and Chen Xiaomei (female), of Sidi village, Qingsong Town, were detained twice, each time for 15 days, because they went to Beijing to appeal twice. They were fined 1,500 Yuan the first time and 3,000 Yuan the second time.

Wang Bin, of Qidi village, Qingsong Town, was fined 3,000 Yuan and unlawfully sent to a labor camp for two years because he went to Beijing to appeal.

Ma Tiejian, of Liudi village, Qingsong Town, was fined 1,400 Yuan and unlawfully detained for five days because he went to Beijing to appeal.

[Changchun City, Liaonin Province] Criminal Acts of Tiebei Jailers in Their Treatment of Dafa Practitioners

Falun Dafa practitioner Pan Zhaorui (male) of Jilin city, Jilin Province, was forcibly arrested on a fabricated charge and sent to Tiebei Jail on April 10, 2001. For forty days the police did not acknowledge his arrest to his family. His family did not know his whereabouts and looked everywhere for him. After forty days, when his family finally saw him, he was virtually unrecognizable after the beatings administered by those violent people. In the jail, three vicious policemen beat him at the same time because he refused to give up his belief and continued to cultivate Falun Dafa firmly. They used an iron rod and an electric baton to beat him; his legs had several large lacerations. Pan Zhaorui's whole body was covered with wounds and kept bleeding. For more than ten days, he was incontinent and unable to hold his bowels. He had blood in his urine and in his stool. There were lots of cuts and bumps on his head. His family saw numerous scars and some of the big cuts were still open when they finally got the chance to visit him.

The vicious policemen had handcuffed him more than 30 hours in a row which caused severe damage to all of the skin on his wrists. They also tied his hands up so high that his feet barely touched the ground and they put him on a rack to torture him. They electrocuted him with an electric baton, pouring cold water on him while applying the electricity. They tortured him so severely that his body was bleeding from head to toe. His clothes were soaked with blood and he was covered with blood. The inmates in the same cell were very frightened after his clothes were taken off. They saw that his whole body was covered with cuts. They did not dare look at the wounds. It was too horrible to look at. The inmates were afraid that he might catch cold and took off their own clothes and put them on him. Apparently the police were even worse than the inmates in this jail.

On May 21, when the vicious police from Fengman local police station of Jilin city came to question him, they beat him again. He lost two teeth. The floor was covered with blood. There were even more wounds on his body.

On May 23, at 6 pm, he was sent to the No. 3 detention center. His family was not allowed to visit or send anything to him. Dafa practitioner Pan Ruizhao has been tortured both physically and mentally.

[Changchun City, Jilin Province] Fenjin Labor Camp Continues to Detain Dafa Practitioner after the Expiration of his Detention Term

Practitioner Liu Chengnian of Nongan County, Jilin Province, was taken away from home by the Changchun police. They deceived him, saying they were just going to talk with him and then sent him to the Tiebei detention center in Changchun on a fabricated charge. He was subsequently unlawfully sentenced to one year in the Fenjin labor camp. In addition, the company he worked for, the Binsha Granary of Nongan county, discharged him from his employment for no cause. That was an illegal action. In the detention center, Liu Chengnian suffered from humiliation and inhumane torture, but he still upheld his righteous beliefs and was determined to cultivate Dafa. Because of these acts of conscience, the labor camp did not let his family visit him or send clothes to him for eight months. In September, 2000 his jail term expired. However, because Liu Chengnian refused to write anything against Dafa, he has not been released even though his term has already been up for more than seven months. These criminal persons are violating the law while supposedly carrying out the law. It is criminal behavior to trample upon the law and human rights. We appeal to all kind-hearted and righteous people all over the world to condemn the evil behavior of the vicious people, uphold justice and support the kind and innocent Falun Dafa practitioners in China.

[Guangzhou, Guangdong Province] Persecution of Dafa Practitioners in Guangdong Province

The Office of the Guangdong Provincial Council has been persecuting Dafa practitioners since July 1999. The Office fired Xie Yunxia and Lin Gang (husband and wife). It cooperated with the Public Security forces to illegally arrest Xie Yunxia after breaking into her private residence. The Office also forced Lin Gang to leave his home and live in exile. More cruelly, they even forced a 4-year-old child and an elderly grandmother, the only two persons left in the household, to move out. At present, no one knows where these two people are. A Dafa practitioner was the Deputy Chief of that department. Because he insisted that Falun Dafa was good and continued to practice cultivation, he was punished by being required to perform heavy physical labor in addition to being fired and expelled from the Party.

The Office of Agriculture of Guandong expelled two Dafa practitioners from the Party last year. It also cooperated with the Public Security personnel to force these practitioners to attend "transformation classes." No visitation or contact with family was allowed. They were completely cut off from outside. The Office claimed that if they were not "transformed," they would be sent directly to labor camps for "re-education." As of now, their families and friends still do not have any news about them.

The director for the Dongshan District Office of the Overseas Chinese Alliance in Guangzhou (female), together with her husband, a council member of the Dongshan District Public Security Bureau, sent a Dafa practitioner, who was still breast feeding her child, to a labor camp for one year. The district administration also cooperated with the Public Security to send one practitioner to "transformation class," and forced another to leave home and live in exile.
