1. Practitioners of Dongfeng Vehicle Company Hold Hunger Strike for 24 days
in Brainwashing Class in Shiyan City, Hubei Province
Five practitioners of Dongfeng Vehicle Company have been on a hunger strike
for 24 days since they were detained in a brainwashing class. Three
practitioners have been on a hunger strike for eight days.
They are:

Another practitioner whose name is unknown has also been on hunger strike for
8 days.
A total of fourteen practitioners are currently being detained in the
brainwashing class. They have held two hunger strikes previously.
In March 2001, practitioner Liu Lan was arrested for performing Falun Gong
exercises. During the subsequent "military training," Policeman Guan
brutally beat up practitioner Zhu Zhiyuan and Deng Jijun, who held a five-day
hunger strike in protest.
Around mid-May 2001, the police department said that they wanted to talk to
four representatives of Dafa practitioners. In fact, this was a ruse to detain
three of them. These practitioners held a hunger strike for two days in protest.
2. Teacher's New Articles Broadcast Over Shijiazhuang Labor Camp in
Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province
On the night of May 17, practitioners installed three speakers near the 1st,
2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Labor Camps in
Shijiazhuang City, through which Teacher's new articles were broadcast at
midnight on May 17 and in early morning of May 18. The police frantically
searched for the practitioners who installed the speakers; the practitioners
returned safely.
3. Former Assistant Director of Falun Dafa Assistance Center Locked Up in a
Brainwashing Class in Shanghai
Two month ago, Yuan Xiaolan, previous assistant director of Falun Dafa
Shanghai Assistance Center, was taken away by the police. She was put in a
brainwashing class and has been kept there ever since. Yuan had persisted in
performing the Falun Gong exercises in public until last August.
4. Record of Practitioners Being Persecuted in Shenyang City, Liaoning
Province
On Chinese New Year's Eve, practitioners Liu Fengmin, Chen Lixin, Zhang
Chunyan and Meng were illegally arrested and placed in a detention center. They
protested by holding a hunger strike, and they were released three days later.
After Chinese New Year's Day, practitioner Wu Yun was pursued by the police
and forced to flee her home, leaving her parents and children behind.
Right before the May 1st holiday, practitioner Guo Suzhen was
followed by the police.
5. Local Officials Hold Brainwashing Class in Huainan City, Anhui Province
The mayor of Jiulonggang Township in Datong District of Huainan City sent the
50-year-old female practitioner Hong Zhanhui to a brainwashing class, held in a
local home for the elderly. In an attempt to escape from the brainwashing class,
Hong climbed over the wall in the backyard. When she jumped down, both of her
ankles broke. Secretary Sun of the Politics and Law Committee said, "She
has to go [to the brainwashing class] even if her ankles are broken." The
people working in the class were strongly against it, for Hong could not take
care of herself with broken ankles. Finally she was sent home, but still each
weekday people came and attempted to brainwash her.

6. Labor Camp Guards Torture Dafa Practitioners in Jilin Province
On April 24, 2001, seeing the firm belief of Dafa practitioners, the
policemen in the labor camp intensified their torture of Dafa practitioners.
They summoned practitioners to the office of the section chief one by one and
used electric batons to shock practitioners' skin, private areas, and mouths.
They also used a rubber rod to beat practitioners. Supervisor Xu of section two
in group two took off her shoe and hit a practitioner's head violently with the
heel to "clear the practitioner's mind." To keep a practitioner from
struggling, they tied her up spread-eagled to the bed stand. The handcuffs were
so tight that they cut into the flesh. They blasted music at high volumes to
cover up the cries from the torture.
A labor camp in Shandong Province even sent people over to learn from their
"experiences." One official said, "The key is simply to buy more
electric batons, rubber rods, and handcuffs."
Section supervisor Xu Xuequan locked up practitioners Zhang Shu and Wang
Wentian individually in the office. He tied up Zhang Shu's legs and pushed his
head toward his legs. Then Xu beat him with an electric baton and a rubber rod.
Wang Wentian is 59 years old. Xu stripped off Wang's shirt and prodded his chest
with two electric batons. When practitioners pointed out their criminal acts,
some policemen denied beating practitioners, while some shameless said that the
labor camp had the right to do so. They claimed that it was an order from Zhang
Peilin and Hu, heads of the labor camp. Chen Tianshu, supervisor of group two,
said, "The way we treat you is very normal. This way you can go home
sooner. If somebody is beaten to death or severely hurt, you can go talk to the
head of the camp."
7. Practitioner Li Suqin in Fangshan District is Arrested, Leaving Her
13-Year-Old Daughter at Home Alone in Beijing
Practitioner Li Suqin in Fangshan District of Beijing was arrested in January
2001 before Chinese New Year's Day, and her whereabouts is unknown. Her husband,
practitioner Li Baoshu, was sentenced to four years in labor camp. Currently,
their 13-year-old daughter is at home alone.
8. Inside the Detention Center of Zhuanghe City, Liaoning Province
The Detention Center of Zhuanghe is where practitioner Shao Shisheng was

The detention center began a program of "military training" of Dafa
practitioners on the fourth day of the Chinese lunar year. It is just another
name for physical torture. On the first day, they forced Hua Yushuang, Ren
Dongmei, Liu Fengqin, Wang Yingge, Zhang Yumin, and Xie Guihua to stand on the
snowy ground in the shade, wearing thin clothes. They were forced to stand in
the cold from dawn to dusk, and the policemen took turns watching them. Though
they were wearing winter coats, caps, and gloves, they still caught colds.
Walking back and forth anxiously, the policemen kept asking, "Do you still
want to practice Falun Gong?" The nearly frozen practitioners in thin
clothes answered resolutely, "[We will] firmly cultivate Dafa with an
unaffected heart and mind." At the same time, they kindly told the guard
about the truth of Falun Dafa.
The next day the torture was even more severe. The guards forced Dafa
practitioners to do push-ups on the ice, including menstruating women and
elderly people. There was one guard supervising each practitioner. Seeing any
disobedience, the guard would step on the hands of the practitioner or use an
electric baton. The fingers of the practitioners became blue and numb in the
freezing cold. In the evening when senses came back to their fingers, it brought
sharp pain, and they couldn't hold anything with their hands. Xu Dejing's hands
had blisters for several days due to the freezing. Even some inmates in the cell
were moved to tears at the sight.
The guards also forced practitioners to squat down and get up, jump around,
and do push-ups hundreds of times, including the elderly. If a practitioner
failed to do one properly, he would have to start all over again, or to be
shocked by an electric baton. The young practitioners had to do these
"exercises" carrying a heavy rock on their back. Male practitioners
were taken from the line and "trained" individually. The guards used
electric batons to shock their tongues, mouths, necks, and even genital areas.
They often did this until the practitioner was on the verge of passing out. The
guards used a triangular stick to beat one practitioner for two to three hours
until the stick shattered. They even forcefully rammed a practitioner's head
against a wall that had bruises covering his body. Guard Li Hongzhu once
handcuffed practitioner Hua Yushuang to the jail bars to beat him. As a result,
Hua suffered from a great deal of gastro-intestinal pain and had trouble holding
down water. Sometimes, practitioners were not allowed to have lunch and had to
continue the training in the evening.
This type of torture lasted for more than three weeks.
9. Several Practitioners Missing Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province
Practitioners Feng Yanping, Li Guangping, Li Guangrong, and Shen Kejian have
disappeared for nearly half a month. Their family members said that they had
been staying at home and didn't go to appeal before their disappearance.
10. Practitioner Ouyang Ming Holds Hunger Strike in Detention Center in
Huanggang City, Hubei Province
Ouyang Ming was a lecturer in an industrial school in Huanggang, but he was
fired for practicing Falun Gong. He has been in and out of the No. 1 Detention
Center in Huanggang. He was spreading Falun Gong flyers when he was arrested
recently. When he was taken to the detention center, Ouyang began a hunger
strike in protest. His current condition is unknown.
11. Police Arrests Practitioner Wang Huanjun of Shijiazhuang City, Hebei
Province
At about 9:00 p.m. on June 18, practitioner Wang Huanjun (60 years old) was
handing out Falun Gong flyers and putting up posters at the intersection near Jianhua
Shopping Mall. A policeman suddenly appeared and took Wang away. Wang's current
whereabouts are unknown.

12. Li Yanliang Directs Police to Persecute Dafa Practitioners in Shanhaiguan
District, Hebei Province
In the period of Chinese lunar New Year of 2000, the police in Shanhaiguan
District started to intensify their persecution of Dafa practitioners. The
directive of Li Yanliang, the Party Secretary of Shanhaiguan District, was
passed down to every level in the police system: "Beat those who go to
Beijing to appeal within an inch of their lives." This involved all the
policemen in the department, even turning detectives into goons to torture
practitioners. Some practitioners were beaten for eight hours continuously, and
some were severely wounded and couldn't bear taking their clothes off for
several days.
The guards in the detention centers also employed more severe forms of
physical torture. This included extended sleep deprivation, being forced to
squat for long periods of time, standing handcuffed in the courtyard in the
cold, being burnt with cigarette butts, being hung in an iron cage with hands
cuffed to the back, arms cuffed to the back with a board or beer bottle stuck in
between, and having a person stand on a stick placed on the calves of the prone
victim.
Those practitioners not detained were not left alone either. The policemen
went to the home of every practitioner to ask whether he would go on practicing.
If the answer was "Yes," that practitioner would be fined for 3,000
Yuan as a punishment. (Yuan, Chinese dollar. The average monthly income of an
urban worker is 500 Yuan.) If one refused to pay, the police would
forcefully take away all his furniture and belongings. Policemen in the Dongjie
Police Station were the most rampant. They confiscated TV sets, VCR's,
motorcycles, and cars from practitioners. Zhang Guo, the head of the police
station, said that it was in accordance with orders from higher authorities.
Shanhaiguan District has held several brainwashing classes. Any practitioner
who doesn't give up Falun Gong is sent to a detention center. If he still
doesn't renounce his beliefs, then he is sent to a labor camp. Physical torture
is common in the detention centers. In every group of detained practitioners,
there are some that have been tortured, including those in their 20's as well as
in their 50's and 60's, most of them women. Apart from physical and mental
torture, there is financial punishment. The police fined the detained
practitioners from 1,000 Yuan to 3,000 Yuan, and no practitioner was given a
receipt.
Such persecution is still ongoing. We hope that the kind-hearted people in
the world will give us their support and help stop the persecution.
13. Shanghai Police Arrest Practitioners
Zhao Meixian, female. Because she was determined to practice Falun Gong, she
was forced to leave home at the beginning of June. She was arrested while
speaking out the truth of Falun Dafa.
Ding Youmu, male. At the beginning of June, the police asked him for a
meeting and took him away. They then searched his house without a warrant and
presented a detention document for his family to sign. The document didn't say
exactly how long he was going to be detained, which means they could detain him
indefinitely.
Xie Hongzhu, female. She was expelled from the Party for practicing Falun
Dafa and arrested recently.
Shen Bilian, female. She was under constant surveillance, and the police
recently forcefully took her away to a brainwashing class.
14. Use Caution Around Former Practitioners
Pan Jinqiu, male, in his 40's, is from Guangzhou. He has betrayed Dafa and is
helping the police.
Zhang Jinping has been seen walking around Tiantan Park, waiting to arrest
Dafa practitioners.
