Australian members of the Falun Gong movement have rallied outside the Chinese Consulate in Sydney's Surry Hills to begin a protest march to Canberra.

They aim to garner international support for their campaign to end the alleged state-backed persecution of Falun Gong practitioners within China.

The march coincides with other protests in Australia and overseas to raise awareness of the movement, also known as Falun Dafa -a system for mind and body improvement.
