Text of Resolution:
Human Rights Commission Resolution
Whereas, Falun Gong is a peaceful and non-violent form of personal belief and
practice with a multitude of practitioners in the City and County of San
Francisco and elsewhere; and
Whereas, Falun Gong is a spiritual practice; and
Whereas, Practitioners of Falun Gong have experienced incidents of violence,
both in the City and County of San Francisco and elsewhere; and
Whereas, The Human Rights Commission firmly believes in upholding a citizen's
First Amendment fundamental human right to freedom, personal belief and
practice, expression, and assembly; and
Whereas, The Human Rights Commission also firmly believes in upholding a
citizen's human right to practice and pursue their religion in a peaceful and
law abiding manner;
Now Therefore Be It Resolved, that the San Francisco Human Rights Commission
extends respect and protection of the free beliefs and peaceful activities of
Falun Gong practitioners;
Adopted, by the Human Rights Commission of the City and County of San
Francisco this 24th day of May, two thousand and one.
