1. A New Round Of Brainwashing to Begin

According to orders from Office 610 (A government agency created specifically for the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners), there will be a nationwide campaign to arrest Falun Gong practitioners starting in mid-July. The authorities will carry out a new round of forced brainwashing of Falun Gong practitioners. Those who refuse to write repentance statements are to be sent to labor camps indefinitely.

We hope that all the practitioners will send forth righteous thoughts to stop this evil. We also hope that detained practitioners can escape, and that other practitioners will use this opportunity to clarify the truth of Falun Gong to the brainwashed practitioners. They should also record the names and deeds of the policemen who are responsible for persecuting practitioners, and attempt to make contact with other genuine practitioners.

2. Jinan City, Shandong Province - Practitioners Arrested in Large Numbers

Since Jiang Zemin and his accomplices started a new round of nationwide persecution at the beginning of June, Dafa practitioners from Jinan City have faced constant arrest. The police have also confiscated computers and printers from the practitioners. On July 2, Li Xiaoping and two other practitioners were arrested.

3. Yuci City - Practitioners Detained and Put on "Trial"

Wang Xiangyi and other Falun Dafa practitioners from the Fifth Section at the Third Railroad Bureau of Yuci City wrote a letter to the National People's Congress, in accordance with rights granted to them by the Chinese constitution. The letter merely exposed the local persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. As a result, they were arrested on March 8, 2000, and they have been detained since then.

In February 2000, eight Dafa practitioners, including Wang Qingsheng and Zhao Kai, from the Mechanics Section at the Third Railroad Bureau of Yuci City rented a car to go sightseeing. During their trip, the police from Yuci City stopped and arrested them. Wang Qingsheng, Zhao Kai, and two other practitioners are still being detained. They were put on trial, but there was no verdict due to insufficient evidence of any wrongdoing. Still, the judges didn't release them. On March 8, 2001, the judges conducted two closed-door trials, where the practitioners defended themselves. The judges had nothing to say in reply and closed the trials without any conclusion.

In May 2001, 23 practitioners were sentenced to three years or more to labor camps by the lower courts, and later these cases were reported to the Provincial Court. At the end of June, the Provincial Court did not approve the sentences, but suggested local brainwashing. Their intention is to send those who resist the brainwashing to labor camps.

During their detention, the practitioners' families are not allowed to visit them, since the practitioners are labeled as "political offenders."

4. Wang Village, Shandong: Female Labor Camp Officials Brutally Torture Dafa Practitioners

The guards in the Female Labor Camp tightly control steadfast Dafa practitioners, strictly forbidding even those in the same cell to speak to each other. If they see a practitioner's lips move, they interpret it as reciting Teacher's articles, and abuse, threats, and torture will soon follow. They don't allow practitioners to sit with leg crossed, nor to contact each other. Two people cannot stay in the bathroom at the same time. An atmosphere of terror surrounds the entire labor camp.

Once, eleven practitioners performed Falun Gong exercises together. They were taken outside and shocked by the guards one by one. The guards also forced every practitioner to write repentance letters. Some practitioners' hands and feet were seriously burned and covered with blisters. Many of them didn't give in, and they were then hung up for a long time. Those who still did not give in were assigned to a "hard-line" class and tortured further.

At the same time, the police showed videos slandering Falun Dafa and Teacher every day. When the video is on, they forbid practitioners from closing their eyes or lowering their heads. They also force practitioners to applaud after watching the videos, and those who refuse to do so are tortured and shocked with electric batons.

5. Police Use Government Relations to Send Female Practitioners to Labor Camp

At the end of October 2000, the police department in the Middle District of Jining City, Shandong Province sent seven Falun Gong practitioners to Wangcun Women's Labor Camp. After physical examinations, some of them were found to have serious diabetes, heart disease, renal problems, and high blood pressure. The labor camp refused to take them in, as their physical conditions made them unsuitable for the work in the labor camp. However, the police department used their relations in government agencies to keep those practitioners in the labor camp.

6. Police Kidnap Female Practitioner and Extort Money from Her Family

Falun Dafa practitioner Ma Hongwei (female) from Jining City, Shandong Province realized her mistakes in the past and returned to her path of cultivation. Because she said to the authorities at her work place that "the brainwashing campaign against Falun Dafa practitioners is very wrong," she was arrested and detained by the police in the politics and security section of the police department in the Middle District of Jining City. The police forced her family to pay 3,000 Yuan for her release. (Yuan, Chinese dollar. The average monthly income of an urban worker is 500 Yuan.)

Falun Dafa practitioner Li Yufeng was released after a 13-day hunger strike, but later he was arrested again after an informant turned him in. The police have beaten and force-fed him repeatedly to no avail, and finally they gave up and released him.

7. Jining City Officials Extort Money from Practitioners

The local police sent Falun Dafa practitioner Yan Xinlan (female) from Jining City, Shandong Province, to Wangcun Labor Camp last year. The labor camp was going to release her for health reasons, but Zhang Deping, secretary of the Politics & Law Committee in Middle District of Jining City, compelled her family to pay 10,000 Yuan for her release. The family could not come up with the money, so Zhang and Liu Yalei, chief officer of the Politics and Security Squad in the police department of Middle District of Jining City, said shamelessly, "If you don't have 10,000, 5,000 will do." The family did not have 5,000 Yuan either, so finally they settled for 3,000 Yuan.

Some families have been forced to pay tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of Yuan, yet their detained family members still have not released. They have to pay to even visit their family members in jail. The police have bankrupted many families of Falun Dafa practitioners in this manner.

8. Three University Students Forced to Leave School

Near the end of June, the administrative personnel in Northwest University of ShaanXi Province asked students Mu Junfeng, Kong Hongqiao, and Zhang Shengbo if they were going to continue practicing Falun Gong. Because his answer was "Yes," Mu Junfeng was separated from others and kept in isolation in preparation for brainwashing. Kong Hongqiao has been under constant surveillance, and Zhang Shengbo is in the same situation. The officials said, "If they don't change their minds, we will send them to the transformation class." Under these circumstances, the three practitioners have left school. Mu Junfeng and Kong Hongqiao just graduated, but the university refuses to give them their diplomas and degrees.

9. Illegal Police Activities in Jiangsu Province

Dafa practitioners in Qidong City, Jiangsu Province have distributed a lot of truth-clarifying materials to the local population. They revealed how practitioner Huang Hanzhong was tortured to death by the police. As a result, the local police have escalated their persecution of practitioners.

On the evening of May 30, several policemen broke into Gao Yixin's home. (Gao was released from Fangqiang Labor Camp of Jiangsu Province on March 14.) They ransacked his home and took him away. Gao was taken to the Xiyi Police Station, where they tortured him for nine days and nights, keeping him awake and beating him severely. His arm was broken at some point during the beating. Gao is now detained in a jail in Qidong City, where he faces a sentence of three to seven years.

Around June 1, dozens of Falun Dafa practitioners were forced to go to the brainwashing class in Qidong. Those who refused to go were literally carried there. They were told that those refuse to denounce Falun Gong would not be released.

A female practitioner whose family name is Huang refused to give in. She is severely hurt from physical abuse and still hospitalized. Yuan Lan (from Qidong), working in Shanghai, was arrested also.

Practitioner Chen Guanghui in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, was suspected to be the person who posted the police killing of Huang Hanzhong on the Internet. The local police followed him for two weeks and arrested him on June 19 in Beijing. While those who murder practitioners and slander Dafa escape justice, those who reveal the truth are arrested. According to sources, Chen Guanghui has escaped from the Lianyungang police station, but his whereabouts are unknown.

We hereby demand a trial for the murderer of Huang Hanzhong. Release Gao Yixin, Yuanyalan, and other practitioners. It is the law of heaven for the good to be awarded with good, and evil with evil.

10. Practitioner from Shanghai Missing

At the beginning of June, Falun Dafa practitioners Zhao Hongdong and his wife went to hand out Falun Dafa flyers in the street. Zhao has been missing since then.

11. Policeman Jing Xiaoming Tortures Practitioners

Jing Xiaoming, a policeman in the Yangqiao police station in Beijing (Tel 86-10-67214739), is infamous for torturing and detaining Falun Dafa practitioners.
