After much preparation, German Falun Gong practitioners began their 350 km (about 220 miles) SOS! Urgent Rescue bike ride from the Chinese Consulate in Hamburg at 11 am on July 10, 2001. The purpose of their journey is to clarify the truth and expose the persecution of Falun Gong in China to the German public, and call for help from local governments and organizations.
A practitioner from Hamburg and a 12 year old practitioner from Bremer will voluntarily ride about 350 km from Hamburg to Berlin.
Their journey was initiated after learning the recent news that 15 female Falun Gong practitioners were tortured to death at the Wanjia Labor Camp. Such a tragic incident did not lead to an immediate action from the German news media and government to help stop the persecution. Therefore, practitioners voluntarily initiated their journey to call on local governments, organizations, and residents to offer help in the rescue of the persecuted practitioners in China. The idea was widely supported. Many other practitioners offered help, and contacted news media and local governments.
The Falun Dafa Information Center in Germany launched a web page for this journey and will give follow up reports. In addition, the Information Center will also send out the kickoff press statement and urgent appeal letters to various organizations.
