News Release, July 16, 2001: Why I am Walking to Ottawa to Appeal for Falun Gong

My name is Ying Zhu, and I am a Falun Gong practitioner in Montreal. Today, I will use my feet and my heart to appeal for the Falun Gong practitioners who are under severe persecution in China, because I myself went through some of these persecutions when I visited my parent in China a few weeks ago. I was freed because of help from people like you who appealed hard for my release. Now I am free. But thousands of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners are still suffering persecutions much more severe than I had. People are tortured to death almost every day. They are tortured to death in groups. On June 20th, it was reported that 15 practitioners were tortured to death at the same time in one labor camp; more recently, another 10 practitioners were tortured to death in another camp. This mass killing must be stopped! It must be stopped!

I remember when I was in detention, a so called psychologist who came to brainwash me said to me that people who did not give up their Falun Gong practice would be considered as having mental problem and would be sent to mental hospitals. He also said that it was not impossible to make fake cases to kill people. He even gave me an example.

He was not lying to me on this. This is indeed what is happening in China now. Hundreds of healthy practitioners who refuse to denounce their Falun Gong practice were sent to mental hospital and forcefully injected with dangerous drugs. Over 250 practitioners were tortured to death in the past two years. Even worse, they were slandered by the Jiang Zemin regime, which claimed that they killed themselves.

I cannot be silent with my freedom. I feel that I need to take action. Through our walk to Ottawa, I would like to appeal urgently to the public for the immediate end to the killing of Falun Gong practitioners in China, and to appeal for the release of these people who are still suffering persecution, just as all of you appealed for my release.

Please join me. Join me to stop the killing. Join me for the release of these innocent Falun Gong practitioners whose only aim is to improve themselves through the principles of "Truth-Compassion-Forbearance."
