A Falun Gong practitioner, Alvis Whitted of Durham, wrote commissioners Chairman Bob Landreth this month asking him to honor the Chinese spiritual movement. Practitioners have been tortured and imprisoned in China, where [party' name omitted] Party leaders see it as a threat to their rule. "I would like to ask that you consider honoring Falun Gong as a traditional spiritual practice that has courageously and peacefully endured massive persecution in its birthplace, China," Whitted wrote. Eight North Carolina municipalities, including Reidsville, have recognized the movement.
