Record of the Persecution in Nong'an County, Jilin Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Since July 20, 1999, government officials from Halahai Town, Nong'an County, Jilin Province have been ruthlessly persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. Their crimes are briefly stated below.

On July 20, 1999, some Halahai Town officials illegally made a list of Falun Dafa practitioners and searched their homes for Dafa books. These officials confiscated Dafa materials and took away pictures of Teacher Li and Dafa posters. They also robbed the practitioners of their personal belongings. Among the lawless perpetrators were Wang Shiquan (Director of the Halahai Town Police Sub-station), Sun Wensheng (a Vice Director in the Halahai Town Police Sub-station, responsible for external affairs), Yi Baoqing (Vice-Secretary of the Party Committee in Halahai Town), Zhang Tianfa (a government official), and Chen Shufeng (Secretary of the Party branch in the neighborhood).

On September 15, 1999, a group of people from the Halahai Town government further persecuted the practitioners. They illegally took away the practitioners' identification and residence cards, and forced them to give their fingerprints. The officials also ordered the practitioners to write the so-called guarantees [a promise not to practice Falun Gong]. Those who refused would be arrested. On that day, practitioner Zou Yanming and Guo Ming were arrested. That night, over 10 policemen came to Zou Yanming's home and asked Zou's wife, Sun Henan (also a Dafa practitioner), "How do you feel after your husband was arrested?" Sun responded, "Why did you arrest him? I protest." The policemen asked, "Do you still practice? You will be arrested if you do." Sun did not surrender and would not cooperate with them. One of the evil policemen said, "Since your child is still too young, we will not arrest you. You should buy some fish and meat and cook meals for us." Because Sun did not give in to this unreasonable demand, the evil policemen arrested her and detained her in the police sub-station. She thus lost her freedom for 13 days. Facing the illegal persecution, nine Dafa practitioners, including Sun Henan, Liu Shuying, Jiang Haiyun, Ji Yanqin, He Jiahong, Zou Jingcai, and Gao Changzhen went to the Appeals Office in Beijing on October 26, and were illegally detained by Beijing police. On October 29, they were escorted back and sent to Nong'an County Detention Center, and were illegally detained there for 23-25 days. While in the detention center, the practitioners were tortured severely. After they were released from the detention center, they were transferred to a brainwashing class set up by Halahai Town. The officials also tried to force them to write the "guarantee" letters.

On the 13^th day of the first month in 2000 lunar year [right after the Chinese traditional holiday, Spring Festival], the Halahai Town government officials followed an illegal order from their superiors and set up another session of the brainwashing class, which ran from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. Those who failed to go or who went there late were fined 50 Yuan [Chinese Currency, about a week's income in rural China]. On the 15^th day of that month, in order to confiscate their property, the officials started to search the houses of those practitioners who had gone to Beijing to appeal. The practitioners whose property was taken were Liu Jihong (male, 35 years old, a farmer of No. 8 Unit of Shuangshan Production Brigade in Halahai Town) and Xie Changyan (female, 34 years old). The officials stole a clock, a large cabinet, a TV, a cutting board, a kitchen cupboard, a dining table, and a horse from Liu Jihong's home [these are valuable items in rural China]. His land for growing crops was also confiscated. They took away a TV, a sewing machine, a clock, 5 pieces of a set of furniture, a kitchen cupboard, medicinal herbs, raw garlic, some onions, and other daily necessities from Xie Changyan's home. The criminals participating in this confiscation were Yi Baoqing, Zhang Tianfa (Government official, in charge of persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners), Chen Shufeng, Wang Shiquan, Sun Wensheng, and some policemen from the town police station.

On the 16^th day of the first month in 2000 lunar year, policemen from the town police station arrested Zou Jingcai (over 60-year-old) and illegally detained him 4 days. During the period of detention, Chen Shufeng, the street party secretary, abused his power and let his son watch Zou, paying him 100 Yuan [about 2 weeks income in rural China] per day at the expense of the entire street. The police station initially did not let Chen's son have this job, saying that the police station would watch Zou Jingcai and there was no need of the street official's attention. However, Chen insisted that they must earn 100 Yuan.

On the 17^th day of the month, the town government's lawless officials searched the practitioners' homes yet again and confiscated more of their property. They took away a television, 4 pieces of a set of furniture, a big pot, a stove, and stools from Zou Yanming's home. From Zou Jingcai's home they took away a sewing machine, a black-and-white TV, and a wardrobe. From Sun Baozhong's home, they took his entire harvest of corn, worth 8,000 Yuan [about US$900, nearly 3 year income in rural China]. Duan Zuowu's tractor, worth 4,000 Yuan, was driven away. They also badly beat Duan. During the process, these lawless persons did not give the practitioners any receipts or follow any legal procedures. They also ordered the practitioners to pay 3,000 Yuan to get their property back. Otherwise, each of the practitioners had to pay a daily storage fee of 30 Yuan. The major criminal in this confiscation was Chen Shufeng (street party secretary). Around the same time, the lawless officials Yi Baoqing, Zhang Tianfa, and Wang Shiquan fined practitioners Guo Ming, Yang Xiuyun, Jiang Haiyun, and Liu Shuying 3,000 Yuan each.

At 6:00 am on March 12, 2000, Chen Shufeng, the street party secretary, knocked on the door of Zou Yanming's house shouting filthy curses. The people in the neighborhood were disgusted and enraged. On March 13, one wicked policeman from the county police department, whose surname is Wang, arrested Zou Yanming from his work place. At 2:00 pm, the policemen from the county police department and the Halahai Town police station took Sun Henan from her home to the police station. She was badly beaten there and was not released until 7:00 pm.

On April 27, 2000, Zou Yanming was sentenced to one year in a labor camp (it is over a year now and he is still detained there) because he refused to pay a fine of 5,000 Yuan. After Zou was sent to the labor camp, Sun Wensheng, the vice-director of the local police station, brought several evil policemen whose last names were Qu, Zhang, and Li, and went to Zou's home at midnight to torture Zou's wife, Sun Henan. They took away her Dafa materials and also loudly cursed, beat, and kicked her. They threatened: "You are not allowed to let others know what happened tonight; otherwise, you will be arrested." After that night, the two evil policemen Qu and Li came to Sun's home with the excuse of taking a census. They pressed her and asked her to tell them if she still practiced Falun Gong. Sun did not respond to them. These two evil policemen became exasperated and started to kick and trample the goods on the floor. They also used some despicable means to intimidate her child.

Zhao Chunxia, a female practitioner living in Halahai Town, was illegally fined 3,000 Yuan because she went to Beijing to appeal. The fine was deducted, in the amount of 200 Yuan per month, from her husband's wage. She was also illegally put in the detention center. In October 2000, practitioners Zou Yanjie, Ye Mingzhu, and Yuan Jinglian were illegally detained (some of them were sentenced to labor camps later) because they went to Beijing to appeal. Their homes were searched and their property was confiscated. In all, 8,000 Yuan worth of property was stolen from Yuan Jinglian's home. A bedside cabinet, an electric fan, and a kang mat [a kang is a bed made of bricks. A Kang is usually connected to a cook stove so that the hot smoke or gas generated from the stove can pass through inside the kang, making it warm in winter/translator] were taken away from Zhou Yanjie's home. These ruffians did not give the practitioners any receipts or follow any legal procedures.

Around January 2001, over a dozen Dafa practitioners, including Zou Jingcai, Gao Changzhen, Jiang Haiyun, Yuan Jinglian, Gao Feng, Zhang Yulong, Liu Shuying, Qi Yunfeng, Yang Xiuying, Wang Huiping, Xu Guizhi, Li Yaoxiang, Zhao Chunxia, Guo Ming, Sun Hui, Sun Bingjie were arrested and sent to a brainwashing class. Each of them was forced to pay a "class fee" of 500 Yuan.

This is just a brief sketch of the crimes committed by some Halahai Town officials in their persecution of Dafa and Dafa practitioners, and their real crimes are beyond description. All the Halahai Town Dafa practitioners still, as always, strongly believe in Dafa, spread the truth, eradicate the evil, assist Teacher in the Fa [law and principle] rectification and save people in the human world. We solemnly warn the lawless people in Halahai Town: Immediately stop the persecution against Falun Dafa and Dafa practitioners; otherwise, what awaits you is the trial of the great law of the universe.
