AFP: Falun Gong Condemns Chinese 'propaganda' After Death Sentence [Excerpt]
BEIJING, Aug 23, 2001 -- (Agence France Presse) The
Falun Gong movement on Thursday condemned as
"propaganda" a death sentence imposed by a Chinese
court on a follower of the outlawed spiritual sect
accused of a brutal axe murder. The group's beliefs explicitly rejected violence, said
the New York-based Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) Information
Center, meaning that if the incident took place the
murderer could not be a Falun Gong follower. A court in the southern province of Guangxi condemned
Lan Yunchang to death suspending the sentence for two
years, the official Xinhua news agency reported on

case as part of the Chinese government's "campaign to
tarnish and incite hatred against non-violent Falun
