BBC Monitoring: Falun Members Petition Hong Kong Government Over Mainland Detentions
Aug 24, 2001 -- (BBC Monitoring) Text of report by
Radio TV Hong Kong audio web site on 24 August. About 100 Falun Gong members have petitioned the SAR
[Special Administrative Region] government for help in
securing the release of fellow practitioners who are on
hunger strike in mainland labor camps. A spokesman for
the Association of Falun Dafa, Hui Yee-han, told
Maggie Nelson they also want jailed Hong Kong
businessman Chu O-ming [Zhu Keming, in standard
Chinese] to be set free. [Hui] "There are about 300 Falun Gong practitioners who
have been on hunger strike for over three weeks. In
three labor camps they were given long sentences of
imprisonment [as heard]. So these people are on hunger
strike and on the brink of death. The second issue is we want to arouse the Hong Kong
public to be aware of the Hong Kong permanent
resident, Mr Chu O-ming. He was given five years
imprisonment in Tianjin because last year he
filed a complaint and lodged it against Jiang Zemin
for his illegal detention of Falun Gong practitioners." http://www.europeaninternet.com/support/article.php3?id=615386
