"Clarify the truth thoroughly, eliminate the evil with righteous thoughts, save all beings, and safeguard the Fa with determination" (Dafa is Indestructible)

A Reply Letter from Congresswoman Denise Moore

Congress of the United States
House of Representatives
Denise Moore

August 9, 2001

Dear [name withheld]:

Thank you for sharing your support for H.Con.Res. 188, a resolution that expresses the sense of Congress that the Government of the People's Republic of China should cease its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

After a recent protest in Washington by Falun Gong practitioners, in which I participated, the House International Relations Committee approved legislation on August 1st calling on China to end its persecution of people participating in the spiritual movement. The committee approved the resolution, H.Con.Res. 188, sponsored by Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), by unanimous consent. H.Con.Res. 188 is slated for floor action under suspension of the rules when Congress reconvenes after the August district work period. The facts about the current crackdown on Falun Gong practitioners are egregious. Tens of thousands of people have been tortured in labor camps, prisons and mental hospitals, and literally hundreds of thousands have forced to attend brainwashing classes. The legislation would also express the sense of Congress that the United States government should urge China to release form detention all Falun Gong practitioners and put an end to their "torture and other cruel, inhumane, and degrading treatment." 253 members of the Falun Gong movement are known to have died from torture in China, and tens of thousands have been tortured while confined in labor camps, prisons and mental hospitals.

The Washington protest earlier this month by about 1,500 Falun Gong practitioners marked the two-year anniversary of the Chinese government's crackdown on the movement, according to the Falun Dafa Information Center, a volunteer group promoting information about the Falun Gong.

Thank you again for contacting me. I hope you will continue to keep in touch and please feel free to let me know whenever I may be of assistance.

Very truly yours,
