Thank you for your letter from July 17th regarding Falun Gong practitioner's treatment in China.

As you know, the government has bilaterally, together with other EU-countries as well as in the UN, expressed its concern over the serious human rights violations that unfortunately are taking place in China.

On this basis we have, in our dialogue with the Chinese government, spurred it to make clear improvements in the human rights area. Freedom of speech, respect for personal integrity and protection of an imprisoned person's rights, including the right to not being submitted to torture, is comprised and emphasized in this dialogue.
