Statement by Haiying He, 8/28/01: Why Do I Sue Zhou Yongkang?

Why do I sue Zhou Yongkang, the man who runs Sichuan province? Let me tell you a little bit about my family. We are from Xichang City, a town 500 kilometers from the center of Sichuan Province. In this provincial town we lived busy, useful lives. My father, Anhua He, taught music. My mother, Yanyun Huang is a kindergarten teacher. My younger sister, Haiyan He, became a primary school teacher who was loved by her pupils and recognized by her peers for how well she did her job. My younger brother, Haiou He, became a doctor. His wife, Yan Peng, also became a doctor. Perhaps an entire family that devotes itself to helping others through service in teaching and medicine is remarkable, but we did not think of ourselves that way. What we did think remarkable was how we all became Falun Gong practitioners. We knew we had been blessed. Falun Gong gave us health where before there had been sickness - my mother, whose life had been one of unending illness, was completely healthy - we all became completely healthy. Falun Gong brought peace and harmony to my family. We all knew the truth of the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance.

In the China of Zhou Yongkang and Jiang Zemin, everything today is turned upside down, so that what is good is called bad, and bad is called good. What has become of my family? My father the music teacher was detained. My aged mother the kindergarten teacher spent one and a half years in a labor camp where every day she faced abuse heaped on abuse. My younger brother the doctor has been these past ten months in police custody. No one from outside is allowed to visit or speak to him. Instead of healing others, he every day must face beatings and torture. His wife, the doctor, was forced to attend a brainwashing class. Now, instead of healing others, she washes the laundry of her hospital. My younger sister, the primary school teacher, was sentenced in January to the Zizhong Naumu Si Labor Camp. No one has been able to contact her since June, and now the staff of the labor camp say that no such person as Haiyan He exists.

Why do I sue Zhou Yongkang? What has happened to my family is what is happening to China. What kind of country is it that locks up and tortures its doctors and its teachers? What kind of country is it that punishes people who have done nothing but serve others?

Why do I sue Zhou Yongkang? What has happened to my family is what is happening to Falun Gong in China today. This cannot continue. The world must know the truth about Zhou Yongkang and the people like him and the people who do his bidding. They must know the truth that Zhou Yongkang brainwashes, beats, tortures, and kills innocent and good people. They must know that Falun Gong is good, and that Zhou Yongkang persecutes Falun Gong simply because it is good.

Why do I sue Zhou Yongkang? I want to ask him, where is Haiyan He?
