Death Report -- Li Mei, a female practitioner from Shandong, dies from a broken spine after being tortured

On April 9, 2001, Chief Zhao from the Longwangzhuang Town Government, Laiyang City, Shandong Province forcefully took Li Mei from her Xizhu Village home to the Town Government. Because Li Mei was firm in her practice of Falun Dafa, she was sent to a brainwashing class at the Laiyang City X Party School. In the brainwashing class, Li Mei continued to practice Falun Dafa. Some of the vicious people there maliciously beat her, breaking her spine causing her legs to become paralyzed. Later on, Li Mei was sent to the hospital, though the Town Government refused to pay for the cost of her hospitalization. On May 28th, Li Mei died in the hospital. She was only thirty-three years old.

In order to cover up their crimes, the Town Government gave Li Mei's family 30,000 Yuan RMB (about US$3,000) and forced the family to sign papers saying that the Town Government was not responsible for Li Mei's death. Li Mei's husband refused to sign, however, and tried to hire a lawyer. But no lawyer dared to take on his case since Li Mei was a Falun Dafa practitioner.

After Li Mei's death, the hospital asked Li Mei's family for 60,000 Yuan RMB to return her body. Li Mei's family, however, are ordinary farmers with very little money. Therefore, Li Mei's body is still being held in the hospital.
