A Heartfelt Letter to a High-ranking Chinese Official

With all due respect I write this letter to you, the man, Mr. XXX. I write this to the individual not the high-ranking official. Allow me to say again I mean absolutely no disrespect in referring to you by your name without referring to your status or position. I do not want my message to be misunderstood. Regardless of your role in society you are a human being first and it is to your heart that I wish to speak.

I feel as though I know you, although it is clear I do not. I have always been quite happy to see your pictures in the past. It was then that I could look into your eyes and then the stories I heard of this respected man became true. I could see your heart in your eyes, and this heart I saw was good.

When situations became more difficult you maintained your goodness. Yet the situation got worse and it reached the point nobody had thought it would. Later I heard a story that you betrayed yourself. However you conducted yourself in a way that others would know your true intentions. At this point I knew the situation was severe. You truly didn't want to betray yourself but you did.

Most recently on some of your travels you said things to the world that were quite terrible, and this time I literally wept. I could see that during the previous time that you were at least struggling to maintain your goodness. But this time it was a complete betrayal. Now I have become concerned for your eternal future.

Surely I don't know you, however I feel as if I do.

Maybe there is something that I don't know and there is no need for me to worry. I just know that a man is not only good in one life alone. In history you may have also been one of the few good ones. Why waste all that time in this short precious moment.

A greater man once reminded me of a Chinese saying,"When you pass the shady willow tree, there will be bright flowers in a village ahead".

I wish I could sacrifice something of mine to give you strength, but I am not sure things work that way. I hope you don't betray yourself anymore. I hope you can persevere amidst what shall happen. I hope to see you amidst the bright flowers in the village up ahead. Although time has yet to tell, I feel I can see you there.
