Route: San Jose to San Francisco along El Camino Real

On Saturday, September 8th, people from all around the San Francisco Bay Area will come together for the first ever Bay Area SOS!: Walk for Justice. The walkers will join one of the six walking groups, which start from San Jose, Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, San Carlos, Millbrae and Daly City and head along El Camino Real towards San Francisco. The last group will end at San Francisco's Chinese Consulate. The simultaneous one-day walk will span over sixty miles. Press events will be held in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Redwood City, San Mateo, Millbrae, Daly City, San Francisco. The main press conference will be held in San Jose where Ms. Jianhua Lu's sister will call for her immediate release. Local residents will speak briefly at each conference about their detention in China. For more specific event information please contact the local coordinator of each walk groups.

The San Francisco Bay Area event supports a nationwide effort to free Dr. Teng Chunyan, a US acupuncturist sentenced to 3 years in a Chinese labor camp for exposing China's widespread torture of Falun Gong practitioners forcibly detained in mental hospitals; and also a local effort to free Ms. Jianhua Lu, a former San Jose, California resident who is currently being detained in the Masanjia Labor camp. Reports from inside China show Dr. Teng is suffering the same torture she was trying to expose. Her life is in danger every day she is detained in China.
