New Jersey: Town of Teaneck Warmly Welcomes Falun Gong
Every year on New Year's Eve, the Town of Teaneck of Bergen County in New
Jersey holds New Year celebration. On December 31, 2001, practitioners were
invited to participate in this year's celebration and introduced Falun Gong to
government officials, community leaders and residents.
The celebration began with a parade. Twenty practitioners held boards and
banners that read Falun Dafa and Truth-Compassion-Tolerance. They waved to
spectators and wished them Happy New Year. The residents watching the parade
applauded while practitioners pass by. After they had reached the end point of
the parade, practitioners sat at the highest level of the stage and held the
banners high. Everyone noticed the banners of Truth-Compassion-Tolerance.
Many government officials attended the celebration including the mayor,
Congressmen, etc. After the opening ceremony, Mr. Pat Schuber came up to the
Falun Gong practitioners on the stage and raised the banner high in the air
along with the practitioners. Congressman Steven Rothman who has been very
supportive of Falun Gong came to talk with practitioners and expressed his
support.
After the opening ceremony, the organizing committee arranged two Falun Gong
demonstrations for residents. A dozen Western and Chinese practitioners showed
the peaceful and graceful Dafa exercises to the people of Teaneck. After the
demonstrations, practitioners held a Falun Gong seminar and many local residents
learnt Dafa exercises.
