On New Year's eve before 2002, about 60 practitioners including Zhang Cuiying and her mother gathered in front of the Chinese embassy to greet the New Year by sending forth powerful righteous thoughts. From 8 pm to 1am, practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts at the top of each hour.

Many people on their way to temple received Dafa information from practitioners - the best presents they could have received at the beginning of a new year. Throughout the event, some practitioners noted Gongzhu (columns of cultivation energy) rising into the sky and many Faluns in the sky. At midnight a huge Falun appeared around the moon.

Upon leaving the embassy, practitioners went to temples and shrines to distribute Dafa flyers to people.
