Falun Dafa practitioner Zhang Jianxun, male, 64, was a retired employee of the County Civil Administration Bureau from Anping County, Hebei Province. Since he insisted on practicing Falun Gong, he was forcibly dragged from his home to the county brainwashing center. He refused to write a guarantee statement [giving up practicing] at the brainwashing center, therefore he was illegally detained for over two months. Later, he was transferred to the Shijiazhuang City Labor Camp. After suffering a whole night of torture, he only said one sentence, "It's really evil [here]." Afterwards he was unable to speak or take care of himself. After being sent home, he died a few months later.

Liu Fupa, female, 67, was a retired worker living in Shenzhou City, Hebei Province. She was detained in 1999 for insisting on practicing Falun Gong. She managed to escape from the brainwashing center in 2000 and was forced to become homeless to avoid illegal arrest by the police and the "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political or judicial systems]. She was persecuted to death in July 2001.
