On October 17, 2002 at 1 p.m., Falun Gong practitioners from the west route of "Rescue Our Family Members and Get Them Home" held a press conference in front of the Chinese Consulate General, calling upon citizens, government officials of all levels and media to help rescue their family members, who are being persecuted in China because of their belief in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Fu spoke at the press conference. He is an entrepreneur from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, and his wife is a medical doctor. Since October 1999, she was arrested four times. Now she is still being detained in the Pi County Detention Center. On February 2, 2002, police from the Pi County Police Department and people from the 610 Office took his wife away right in front of him. The first two times his wife was arrested were when he was on business trips. Mr. Fu said, "That day was the darkest day in my life. I was so angry and helpless. I owned a company in China but I could not protect my wife."

Falun Gong practitioner Kim said that the final destination of the "Rescue Our Family Members and Get Them Home" effort is Texas. Along the route, they will contact local media and government agencies to let them know about the peaceful practice of Falun Gong and the fact that many American citizens' family members are being persecuted because of their belief in Falun Gong. When more and more citizens and government agencies know the truth of the persecution, Jiang's lies will be exposed.

The urgent rescue team will drive south, pass through the city of Phoenix and then meet up with other car parade teams from other areas in Texas. Along the route, they will expose the Jiang regime's brutal persecution to citizens and media with their families' own experience. They are calling upon people to voice their support, so that their family members as well as tens of thousands of detained Falun Gong practitioners could be freed from detention centers, prisons, and forced labor camps.
