Houston Chinese Indifferent to the Visit (Photo)

(Clearwisdom.net) Before the visit to Houston, a reporter went to a Chinese Supermarket to collect opinions from Chinese people living in Houston.

Free newspaper headlined "What does it mean to welcome Jiang?"

The reported talked to a lady entering the supermarket with a shopping cart, "Do you know that China's leader will visit Houston this week?" The lady in her 30's smiled back and said, "Sorry, I don't know anything about it. You can ask the staff in the market. Maybe they know something." The reporter entered the market and what immediately caught his eye was the local newspaper headlined "What Does It Mean to Welcome Jiang?" Beside the newspaper, a bundle of magazines named "My Heart is with China" with the cover titled: "Tracing the secret China Russia Border Agreement."

The reporter went into a hairstyle shop and asked a young lady who worked there about the visit. She answered that she heard about it in the news. When asked for her personal opinion, she immediately said, "I don't know. I don't know what to say about his visit." The lady expressed her opinion that Falun Gong should not be persecuted.

In a busy restaurant, a local Chinese community club was having a party. One urbane and clever lady told the reporter that she knew someone was collecting Chinese to "welcome" the visiting dictator by providing a free meal. She said humorously, "I wouldn't do the same, but maybe I'll go for the free meal. Actually, with so many Chinese restaurants in Houston, a free meal means nothing to me."
